Yeah, I was happily surprised. I think it actually may have been you when I first heard of his former coach being at Missouri so I kind of assumed that would be the destination. Then, within the last couple days I read that Auburn was actually the favorite for whatever reasons.

I'm excited about the addition. Like I stated before, with the caveat that Pack & Omier return, I think it'll be a pretty balanced team like they had last season & the season before when they made deep runs in the NCAAT. I could see Pack, Poplar, Cleveland, and Omier all averaging double digit points. I think Cleveland fits well in Larranaga's system because he likes having several players that can handle the ball and shoot on the floor, which creates a lot of spacing and room to operate. I think Cleveland will be pretty effective playing with those guys.

Yeah I recall us conversing a couple weeks back.

That’s just the thing though. He’s not a shooter and he struggles to consistently attack off the bounce in the half court. He made 21 threes in 30 games this year and shot 69% from the FT line. Now both of those were substantial improvements from his freshman year, so maybe he can still improve some? But he’s just not a natural shooter. He’s more of a poor man’s Jordan Miller, who turns it over a lot more.

His best asset is defensive rebounding. Very good there. But that is sort of already covered on your team by Norchad.

Idk. Just hope folks have the right expectations for him. He’s a good role player on a strong team. Definitely can’t be a 1st or 2nd option scoring, and honestly maybe not even 3rd.

Gotcha

I appreciate the input as I can't say I've watched him very many times. In the article I read once he announced for Miami, it said he shot 35% from 3 this season which is solid. So maybe I'm overrating his shooting ability to some degree.

Funny that you call him a poor man's Jordan Miller bc Cleveland said that was what drew him to Miami is seeing the success Miller had and playing the role Miller did. It wouldn't be fair to Cleveland and would be dumb by Miami fans to expect him to do everything Miller did. Miller had ELITE, elite intangibles. He was so smart, so crafty, poised, and seemingly always in the right place at the right time.

I certainly don't expect him to be the #1 option, maybe not even #2. I'm not even sure there will really be some type of hierarchy as far as scoring options go, lol. There wasn't much of one this season. If you were forced to rank them then Wong was 1, Miller was 2, but it was different game to game. During the tournament run, in 3 consecutive games, Wong had 27 against Indiana, Pack had like 27 against Houston hitting seven 3's, then Miller had 27 against Texas. I'm hopeful that the way they share the ball will improve Cleveland's game even more.

I really feel like Wooga Poplar is going to have a monster breakout year. Wouldn't be surprised at all if he averages north of 15 ppg. I see Cleveland more as a #3 or #4 option.

Dude, for you to say that let's me know that you REALLY know your stuff. You're the man, lol.

But yeah, Miami fans are excited about Poplar. He was quietly really good this season, especially as the season progressed. It was almost all catch & shoot on open looks early in the season as he played off of Wong, Miller, and Pack. So we knew he was a good shooter from midrange and from 3. He started putting the ball on the floor more as the season went on and showed how good of an athlete he is. He had two Sportcenter top 10 dunks late in the season. One against your Blue Devils near the end of the game 👀 and his head was almost even with the rim.

He made a lot of big plays and shots this season and didn't get a lot of pub. He hit six 3s and won the game for Miami in the home finale win over Pitt that landed Miami #1 in the ACC regular season. He was very solid in the tournament run as well, especially against Texas when Pack didn't do much and Wong didn't get going until late in the game.

He's definitely a breakout candidate next season. If he improves his handle more he'll be very tough to guard.

He did shoot 35%. It was just on very low volume and his makes were almost entirely off C&S.

He’s actually a very intelligent kid. Comes from a good family. But he’s one of those kids who’s honestly a little too book smart for sports if that makes sense? He gets into his own head. He spent all of freshman season ignoring Stan Jones (renowned for his FT shooting coaching) coaching for his mechanics because he found some random videos on YouTube while doing research and wanted to try that stuff. He overthinks some half court sets and sort of gets in his head when stuff isn’t working. I’m not calling him soft…but he’s not an alpha dog.

It probably sounds like I’m dogging the kid. I’m really not. He’s a good kid. He will represent your school well. And he will certainly have some impactful games, especially defending and rebounding. He’s just not someone who should have been a 5 star. I’ve seen Scottie Barnes in practice. I’ve seen Pat Williams and Dwayne Bacon in practice. He’s not those guys. Hell, he’s not Terance Mann.

IOW. This kid sucks and is probably a horrible human being. Got it!

Big time scorer from Marshall entered the portal recently. Andrew Taylor, 20 ppg this is going to be a great pickup for somebody.

He really took it to the next level in March. He's clearly not just a shooter. He's oozing with talent. Great athlete, can shoot, can handle the ball well, too. Excellent candidate for a breakout season. He's someone I believe could make one of the All-ACC teams.

Is there currently a better name in sports?

It rolls off the tongue nicely.

Not everyone will like this one, but Alabama has a DB on the football team named Kool-Aid. Kind of dumb, but kind of hilarious.

Not meant towards you, but...

WHo gives a **** about academics? So da fuk what. Such a fukin beta argument. I wouldn't give two shits if IU was ranked lower than a day care, as long as they win.

Academics....GTFO here.
No one used academics as an argument, try actually reading through the thread. A Kansas fan wrote “the big ten is just a stepping stone to the big ten” I pointed out that Kansas would ditch the Big 12 for the B1G in a heartbeat if given the chance, but that wont happen given the fact that Kansas is not a football first school, not geographically located in a major media market and academically awful. What I dated is absolutely true.

LOL. Apart from the fact that they're not even close to awful academically, you have schools in that league that bring next to nothing to the table.

We all know it comes down to football. Period. If Leipold continues to make progress with the football program, they'll be choosing where they go.

Btw, since you took my "bigger and better things" comment very seriously, let me clarify that I meant that Dickinson will achieve more on the court. I leave the conference money talk to fans of programs that don't win anything.

1. Yes Kansas very much is awful academically. Nebraska is the only member that isn’t an AAC school and they only got a pass because they’re a blue blood football program. If the B1G is going to take in basketball schools it should be schools like Duke and/or Virginia.

2. Dickinson should very much achieve more at Kansas as they have a far better team overall and far better coaching. Thing is, Dickinson is one of the laziest college athletes ever. He may or may not just put in a half assed effort knowing he’s going to receive 4 mil in total no matter what. I don’t blame him for doing what he did, and if he’s smart he’ll make the most of the opportune now has, but yeah that remains to be seen

I don’t think the 4 million rumor is right. Has anyone actually confirmed that???

Also, expect Kansas to land Mackenzie Friday. Crazy off-season hauls by Self.

I want Kaluma so bad I can feel it in my ovaries .. but that might be something else entirely.

Shirley, he's going pro.... right?

2 million a year for 2 years

This guy breaks down how stupid media/social media is. Slightly surprised on this news but not a ton. He's focused on the NBA draft while entering his name bur presents it as if he's looking for a new team. Talented player who may be a first rounder in a year or 2 with some offensive improvement and strength/weight

Yes but I don’t believe it. Has this been confirmed? For example, I hard the number was actually 400k per
No, it’s been all over. Certain teams were willing to give him a mil a year. 2 million a year for 2 years with a certain amount up front.

I tend to agree with some radio people, particularly KSR who believe none of the NIL numbers are correct and all sides(players, schools, businesses) benefit from these high numbers being thrown around.

That's somewhat backed up by a person who did a nil deal talking about the details. Pretty much a million dollar deal to a player only guaranteed said player something like 50,000. Everything else he would only make if he sold x amount of autographs and merch.

I've heard that a lot of players aren't getting the NIL payments they were promised. I've also heard this has been working in KU's favor lately because their NIL sponsors are keeping their promises and paying up.

Huh? No one used academics as an argument/reason, etc....But I mean that was part of your argument/reason why KU wouldn't come to the B10...

Ok...

I’d say Kansas definitely pays up.

Tomorrow is the last day to enter the portal without having to obtain a waiver first.

Julian Phillips and Arthur Kaluma are two pretty big late additions. Will be curious if we see a few more noteworthy names tomorrow.

Arizona State's Warren Washington is in the portal. Would love for Duke to reach out to him.

7'0 225, athletic big. He's a good passer, too. 26.9 minutes, 9.2 ppg, 6.9 reb, 1.8 blk, 1.6 ast, 56.3% fg.

I think he ends up at Texas Tech, but you never know what happens. Several teams are going hard for him. Hoping our coaches did enough to land him because we need him badly.

Udeh is a pretty big loss for KU imo, I thought he'd be in for a pretty big breakout year.

Udeh exiting would seem to make a lot of sense given the additions. Not too many kids want to remain a reserve. Saying this without knowing his NIL status/opportunities but late in the game these guys hitting the portal last second might be highly coveted for all those teams that have whiffed so far?

Sadly barring injury he was only looking at 5-10 mpg with Dickinson on the roster now. We’re also hearing that barring a monster season and becoming a legit draft prospect there’s a decent chance Dickinson will be at KU for 2 years.

Woahhh 2 more years for Dickinson? I guess he could use the COVID waiver to stay until 2025 but he would officially replace Perry Ellis as the guy who's been in college for the longest time.

Dickinson to me is not even a bench guy in the NBA but an All-American type college player so good on him for trying to get as much NIL money as possible in college.

He could probably retire in 2025 and just invest the money he's earned if he wants.

Unless he’d start at Duke, this wouldn’t seem to make much sense. And I don’t think he’s ready to be the starting 5 for a contender.

No idea. Still uncertain if Duke plans to play Flip a few minutes at the 5 - or maybe Sean Stewart a few minutes there. I figure Ryan Young will still get between 15-20 minutes. I think Scheyer wants a defensive specialist, similar to Lively.

D'Marco Dunn entered the portal yesterday.

So, UNC had 2 players graduate and 7 transfer out. That's some serious turnover.

Their core players are fine. Armando Bacot and RJ Davis make a really good 1-2 punch. Harrison Ingram and Cormac Ryan, two players transferring in, should both be starters. Both averaged double-figures at Stanford and Notre Dame, respectively.

I think Ryan can reasonably play 2/3, while Ingram can be a 3/4. Ingram offers a lot of versatility, so that will help with all of the different lineup packages they can assemble. Just a matter of whether Hubert wants to play big or not. The fight for the 5th starting spot could be interesting. I'd say it's pretty open between Seth Trimble, Paxson Wojcik, Simeon Wilcher, Jalen Washington, and Jae'Lyn Withers.

Now do UK. I need a positive spin.
