I usually get alerts when someone quotes me, and I assume that you do, too, so you likely saw this answer to your question. Now I'm not Dattier, and maybe you have a hard-on for getting his answer specifically, but this is the answer to why it's possible to believe both that Trump (or any other politician) sucks and can be reelected. And you already know this anyway.
So...basically a plethora of Americans are too dumb to vote? I will 100% agree with you on that. I don't have an issue with the lions share of trumps policies....but I do have an issue with the way he conducts himself and his absolute inability to say the appropriate thing. He could be doing very well if he didn't have diarrhea of the mouth and stuck to policy. The stuff that has come out of his mouth should make it so easy for someone to run against him but the liberal side keeps trotting out the worst possible candidates imaginable. I think Americans would love a well spoken moderate that doesn't pander to their own side at all times. Start focusing on issues that are top tier priority instead of arguing relentlessly on Social justice issues.

Thanks, thoughtful post. One comment (that feeds into your observation that a plethora of Americans are basically too stupid to vote): candidates that focus on policy get virtually no coverage on policy. I think that is again a function of what the public pays attention to and values; witness the offseason threads around here last summer. A conspiracy theorist will tell you that it's a case of the tail wagging the dog, but (i) grand conspiracy theories are unrealistic and (ii) if the public wasn't so fascinated with SJW issues in the first place it wouldn't work.

I agree almost completely. Its exhausting listening to politicians talk in circles and always shift the answer to the question to their stump speech. They should be able to speak at length on their core ideas: economy, taxes, healthcare, national security. To me, these areas trump everything and if they are going to be our leader, they should have studied them so much they can answer every question. Also if they cant, be honest enough to say they don't know the answer but they will have the answer next debate. I hate the two party system. I lean towards a guy that shares mike rowes principles and how he explains his thoughts clearly and concisely---whether you agree with them or not. Im not a fan of radical proposals on either side bc it usually sells out half the population or isn't financially feasible. Some people don't grasp the difference b/t the black and the red. I also think all politicians should be banned from social media---way to much misinformation involved and literally next to no accountability for it.

Also. Serious question. I just realized that we don't have a Sec. of Defense and haven't for months. Like, that couldn't be good right?

You don't know me
You don't know me either, so why do you feel a need to hurl insults? Everybody is not gonna agree with you on everything. This is a message board to post one's thoughts and feelings on many things, if you become un-hinged about a post, maybe you should take a break from the board, insulting people is not a good way to get along.

You think college grads between 23 and 30 don't file taxes or work real jobs?

I know a ton of college grads who still live at home.

In fact, I graduated high school with several of them.

So no, if they're living at home, they're not paying property taxes or mortgage interest of homeowners insurance.

Bernie Sanders didnt have a real job until he was in his 40s, and it shocks you that people in their late 20s dont have real jobs?

Weird.

On a related note, for health insurance purposes, you're still considered a "dependent" until you're TWENTY ****ING SIX.

So, yeah, I think most people in their 20s are stupid and have no life experience.

Voting age needs to be 25, at least, and even then, they wont have the same life experience and streets smarts as an 18 year old 50 years ago would.

Why are property taxes coming into this? Where they live is not a part of the argument. Sure, SOME don't have 'real jobs' (whatever that means) but the majority in that age range are working full time and earning enough to actually pay income taxes. If they're living with Mom and Dad for a few years out of college, it's probably to save for a house, in most cases. Saving money for the biggest purchase in your life seems like a life experience thing to me; or is it not? If we're including high school grads who passed on college, most of them are also working full time jobs. The fact is, most 20-somethings are in college or working and paying taxes. You seem to be arguing that the minority is the majority.

I'm also not sure what you're getting at with the health insurance angle. Being on their parents' health insurance diminishes their life experience? Because it's one less auto-deduction they have to set up once and forget about until that one time each year? Damn, how could they function as a whole person in society without that. Good point.

I have multiple clients that live at home and in their 20's. They are definitely not saving up to buy houses. They spend their money on Xbox and drugs. I am not saying that it is the norm, or that you are wrong in the cases that they are doing what you say. But if you think the majority of people in their 20's that are living at home are working hard and saving money, you are a bit naive. I think you might be using your personal experience maybe?

Excluding actively enrolled college kids from the at-home argument, the lazy d-bags working at McDonalds part time and blowing their checks on weed and Cheetos is not the norm within that subset.

Edit: My wife's younger brother (22yo) lives with his parents, works full-time at a pizza place, smokes ridiculous amounts of weed and has no plans to move out. Definitely isn't saving money. That's part of my personal experience. Her sister (26yo), got her GED, went to work at a pizza place, became a store manager and then a district manager and moved into her own apartment at 23.

Living with my parents was best thing I ever did around 24-25. Saved enough to buy a cheap condo making like 18 an hour. I think it makes sense for kids to do that if their parents have room. Would’ve taken me 2-3 years to be in a place to build equity with out those couple years. Although, that time at my parents sucked ass and were absolutely miserable thanks to my dad intentionally making my life hell.

How did he make your life hell?

That's because he spent 18 years waiting for you to leave and you wouldn't. :(

I moved in with some older cousins when I was 16 until I graduated high school then I moved in with my oldest brother down here. Got an apartment with a roommate when I was 19. Lots of top roman nights. Guess it would have been nice to have one reliable parent at the time. But it made me work harder and actually think ahead in a time a lot of people that age don't. Some people are forced to grow up quicker than others.

I graduated early, and still moved out immediately. I was too young to sign a lease, so like most teenagers/early 20's, I got a roommate. And I'm a master at cheap food.

It's a shame progressives don't care about being fair to these young women.

A transgender girl won the 100 meter state title in Connecticut two years ago. Somebody with form like this should never, ever win a state title. She/he is losing a good half-second from wasted motion... but, you know she/he won the race fair and square. The girl who placed 2nd just needs to try harder.
