Too bad we'll never get to see how Calipari would handle an invite to the White House while Trump is in office.
i would feel the same way if Cal refused to go and then made up some lame excuse as to why he was not going
BTW Cal is a Democrat

If you think the current POTUS respects the office I can just assume you aren’t the brightest bulb.how does anyone know if any President has or has not respected the office he holds
just because you may not agree with someone does not mean they do not respect their position

I think Bennett and UVA will be okay without your respect. You are allowed to feel however you want about the situation though.
that is the thing i really do not care if Bennett or UVA will be ok or not
i lost a lot of respect for a coach and a team i respected
i am sure a lot of UVA fans are very disappointed in his decision
Johnny Carson said it best as to why he never got politics involved in his show
why make half of your audience mad
Then maybe we should blame the White House for inviting teams rather than for teams for declining the invite.
The UVA players/coaches/etc that want to attend should still be able to IMO. Who cares if it's 3 guys taking a photo with Trump?i guess that is one way to spin it
what if some of the UVA players wanted to have a once in a lifetime chance to see inside the White House
do you think his decision is fair to them?
did he even give the players a choice or did he feel they should not have that choice?
Then UVA should have went.Only coaches who never expect to win another championship would accept that invite
Oh yea. Bill Clinton and JFK were so GD innocent up standing, moral men and yet they are loved and worshipped. Cry me a freakin river. Love or hate Trump, but he has done a lot of things that has helped this country.Eh. Some people would look at it as...
“I dont like this man’s role in my country, my government, and indeed the Presidency of the United States, and I have a complete lack of respect for him as a man and for his morals and ways, and so I will take an altogether American approach of saying ‘I don’t want him to be part of my celebration of this lifelong dream,” which would be unheard of in other nations that are not built upon freedom from political rule or obligation as ours is. I do this in full recognition of how rare it is, and I find it in fact rather telling that no other President in history has “endured” this... I cannot myself imagine *not* considering it quite an honor if any former President extended the kind invite, and am sorry that it cannot be that for me.”
That’s how I take it. I’d certainly have welcomed a White House visit for any President of my lifetime, no matter how much I may have disagreed with them or their politics. I reckon every single person turning down Trumps invites feels the same way, as evidenced by how rare it is that any team ever turned down an invite from any former Presidents.
I really do enjoy his hotels and casinos.Oh yea. Bill Clinton and JFK were so GD innocent up standing, moral men and yet they are loved and worshipped. Cry me a freakin river. Love or hate Trump, but he has done a lot of things that has helped this country.
Did JFK, Bubba Clinton, LBJWhat if the president doesn’t respect the office he holds?
Didn't Steph do that last year? You can't decline an invite if it's never extended.
Did JFK, Bubba Clinton, LBJ
And I am sure you are one of those liberal democrats that listen and watch CNN and believe everything they say. The fake news network. Trump has done more for this country than any other President. Lowest unemployment for blacks, hispanics, women and all americans. You must feel a little butt hurt. I may not like his personality but I like what he has done for the people.Eh. Some people would look at it as...

As soon as someone brought up the kkk and white supremacists, it was solidified.I see this board has its share of mouth breathers.

What is preventing the UVA players that want to go from going? Is Trump going to deny them from coming simply because the coach denied the invite?
the offer was made by Trump for the team, as far as i know that offer has been made for decades
did Bennett ask the players for their opinion or if any of them wanted to go (apparently he feels they are not intelligent enough to make their own decision on the matter)
what prevented him from doing so?
since Bennett decided to make their decision for them, pier pressure may prevent any of them saying "what the hell i wanted to go"
the offer from the White House is a courtesy
Based on how Bennett has coached the team for the last 10 years, my guess would be that he did not make a unilateral decision.
I think it's a waste of a great opportunity to do something not many people get to do. I think it is stupid, but it is their loss. No reason for anyone to get mad over it.
agreed
the decision was also made by his higher ups
i doubt the players had any say so
do you really think he contacted the players no longer at UVA and asked them
for that matter any of them
man i like you as a poster
but the more you make me think about this the worse Bennett and UVA look in my eyes
Honestly not sure how we would have handled this. Probably go but make excuses for players etc who didn't want to go.
Sorry for making you think
So. He is still President. I have not agreed with several Presidents on a Myriad of subjects but I still respect the office.
I wonder if it was Bennett's decision even though he had players want to have the honor. Tony shit on their dreams of one day visiting the White House.
Maybe I have this all wrong and every single UVA team member didn't want to visit the WH.
Cry bag pussies ruin everything.
So the argument that Trump doesn't respect the office is moot. Because what has the office done to earn respect?I don't.... one must earn respect.
Don't most coaches?Bennett does have a history and reputation for putting himself above others
dumbass.Hopefully Biden wins the election and teams can once again visit the White House without a racist sexist Oompa Loompa running things
