You're too obtuse to understand simple history. Religion has stood in the way of free thinking and science since its inception. Which has done more good for humanity, the sciences or religion?

Hint: It certainly hasn't been religion. You have a serpent that was smarter and more honest than god, you have a god that tells you how to manage your slaves and even how to beat them. You adore a human sacrifice and even perform symbolic cannibalism. A earth that is flat and only 6000 yrs old. I can spout this nonsense all day. Religions are the biggest bunch of bullshit ever.

The middle east had some of the best mathematicians ever and now they don't. Thank islam for that one.

Now do you understand my stance oh obtuse one? Brain washing at its finest....

I majored in chemistry with many hours of physics, biology and geology and I will bet that religion has never stood in the way of free thinking and science in Western Europe or the United States in the last 250 years. I was never taught that what I learned in chemistry, physics, biology or geology conflicted with a religion. I was only taught the damned facts. On Sunday I was never taught not to peruse a course in college or school.

Please tell me where any U.S. religious faith stopped the progression of science? Did religion interfere with the writing of the Declaration of Independence? Did it interfere with the drafting of the Constitution? Did it stop the industrial revolution? Did it stop flight? Did it stop the development of chemistry, physics, ecology, geology, biology?

Of course, there were many arguments; however, the Christian church actually helped the progress of science after the Protestant revolution. In fact, the framers of our country used the “free thinking” that followed the Protestant revolution to frame our countries institutions.

There is friction between science and religion; however, the Protestant revolution freed the world from the stranglehold of religious restrictions. You can protest all you want but it does not change the facts.

Bert, there's still aspects of religion that would love to squash physics and in some cases medicine. The last 250 yrs is mere a drop in the bucket. About the thousands of yrs before that. Scientists were heretics and killed...

People can have their religion, as long as it doesn't affect my life. But don't make it a political cause. Unfortunately there are many that still do...

BTW slavery in the US was legal within the past 300 yrs.

I mean the thing is, you are right. I mean I’m fairly sure you are right. But existence itself is pretty weird. Super massive black holes, quantum mechanics, infinite possibilities, gigantic marbles being guided by invisible forces in the middle of blackness, dinosaurs, pyramids, genesis of life, inability to prove it exists elsewhere, enormous distances, enormous distances that make other enormous distances trivial... there is plenty of room to assert magic men in sky...

We live in a remarkable place that's for sure. I just place my position in what's real based on facts. Unfortunately there's a lot of teaching and believing that certain scientific facts aren't real. Lots of rationalization goes into their thoughts.

When people became more educated, the world started improving.

Thank you!
Christianity has been on the decline the last 30 years. Coincidence the world has gone to sh¡t during same time period?
WWI and WWII were more than 30 years ago. Legal slavery more than 30 years ago, etc.

My point is that the influence of organized religion is more complicated than the all-good and all-bad narratives.

Groups is the problem and the followers thereof. They lose the ability to think for themselves or even try to learn what is the truth.

Religion is not that complicated at all. Just study the bible lol. It was about power and controlling the uneducated. The Catholic church is so corrupt.

I really don't have a problem, what people believe personally.. Just when it tries to influence in order to control others to follow their beliefs.

One simple question, that I propose sometimes, will show that people are better than their gods.

I’m a Christian and love science. Hell, I used to subscribe to Discovery magazine, which was all about refuting any and all religious beliefs. Labeling spiritual people with generalizations is just as crappy as any other generalization. Some religious people are ignorant bullies and even dangerous. They were already that way though. They just use religion as an outlet and excuse. They could just as easily be extremists and obsessive about something else. Extremists who are religious are the most dangerous sort of crazy though. No doubt about that IMO.

I love people that bash Christianity because of science yet support the idea of 317 genders.

I'm in neither group, but the idea that there are only 2 genders is neither scientifically proven nor disproven, so saying there are more than 2 genders is not a statement in opposition of science.

Exodus 21:20-21 (NASB): 20If a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod and he dies at his hand, he shall be punished. 21If, however, he survives a day or two, no vengeance shall be taken; for he is his property.
No need to refute it. It’s dumb as shit and not close to being reality.

All facts.... things are dumb to you that you don't understand or know.. And they're dumb because you can't refute them, one of so little knowledge. you would have done well in the dark ages. Not so well with educated people.

I have a lot of good friends that are christians, even trump followers lol. I just won't discuss religion or politics with them. I raised my step daughter from the time she was 5 through college. She is a Christian. Whenever she would ask me about religion, I always said that was something you need to explore and answer for yourself.

I'm ok with religion, until it starts popping up with politics. I'm all for secularism in public affairs, personal, do what you wish.

I'm only a pain in christians sides on here lol. Refuting the bible is easy pickin's. There are 1000's of religions and/or gods. 999 must be wrong. I guess being born in the right place at the right time has its rewards :)

I agree about politics. One of the reasons I dislike the right so much is because of how they have tried to manipulate people with religion and the way they pick and choose when it’s relevant and important.

This is true and shameful. The left does it's fair share of manipulative pandering as well. It is dumb, American politics.

Sounds like you’re a good dad. Your approach is the same I take. I dont Want to force my beliefs on anyone. At the same time, I don’t want anyone forcing their beliefs on me.

I’m more of a person who thinks you are free to believe what you want and be what you want. Just don’t force me to believe what you believe or be what you want to be.

Oh, no doubt. Politics is more fear mongering than anything anymore. I just got more angry at what the right does with Christianity because of my beliefs.

I mean, that's fair as far as your personal beliefs. I get angry at the left for painting people on the right as fascist and racist. Fear mongering is a bullshit tactic that both sides use and it is an embarrassment to our country.

It's fair because it's true. I never said there aren't plenty of legit reasons to think both are terrible. Hell, I get angry at the left for a lot of reasons, lol.

I didn't mean it to be a challenge. Just giving another perspective. I don't think we are that far from each other, other than being on opposite sides.

We probably aren't. I'm not on either side anymore to be honest. I really dislike both so much I find myself having a difficult time finding anyone to support that I feel good about.

Kind of like UK and UNC/Duke fans. We're just on the other side of a mountain range, but we still know how to run a blue blood. The bigotry and mudslinging is what gets me.

Well, there are a lot of people on the right that are racist nationalists. It’s hard to deny that Trump being President has been a catalyst for a lot of these folks to come out of the shadow. Obviously, the majority of the right isn’t this way, but there are a decent chunk of them that are looking the other way.

I’m with you. If we could somehow get someone that is a genuinely good dude and is a true libertarian (socially liberal and fiscally pro business), it would be ideal for me. Too bad it will never happen with our two party system (and don’t try to give me this Rand Paul B/S).

Agree, I don't understand why some want to sell their beliefs to others. Be comfortable in your own beliefs and don't force them on others.

At the same time, you are willing to vote for people who will support laws that impose conservative values on others.
