That wall is not going to deter anything. Trump just wants built for his own honor. The biggest problem with border security is the current checkpoints. I'll agree those need huge improvements, but a wall is just a waste of money. Its too easy to circumvent.
Lol. The wall is absolutely an integral part of the broader solution. Walls work. I don't think that's even a question. It's not meant to keep people out indefinitely, but slow down or deter them from trying to enter at that location. Combine that with more tech and people and there could be a solution that works.

I am not in the, fists in the air chanting build the wall crowd. But I do find it interesting that so many people say how stupid the wall would be and go with the narrative that walls don't work even though it has been proven all over the world that walls work. Hell, not one peep about it being a waste of our money to go build walls in other countries.
1. Most illegal immigrants don't cross the border illegally. They simply overstay visas. How does a border wall address that issue?
2. Palestinians who tunnel underneath a wall along a much shorter border (and thus easier to monitor) say hello.
3. Hell, even Genghis Khan says hello.

I'm all for stymieing illegal immigration (though, I don't think it is nearly as big of a problem as the right makes it out to be), but stealing American's land to build a multi-billion dollar wall for show is not the answer.

Illegal immigration is an evolving issue. Your #1 may be a factual statement, but it does not address the caravans sometimes reaching in the thousands that are coming here knowing all they have to do is bring a child with them.

#2. You're right. The cartel has tunnels under our border today. Don't you think it is easier for Israeli agents to search for and destroy more tunnels because they don't have to use more manpower to fight the Palestinians crossing over a small barrier that works for dogs, not people?

#3. We're not building a wall to thwart an invasion of armies. Just to maintain control over who enters and where people enter. Not really comparable.

Anyone who downplays how bad it is at the border is being willfully ignorant. The same people who complain about the conditions the migrants are subjected to ignore the fact that they are enduring those conditions because of how bad the situation is. I choose to believe the people actually dealing with the crisis than the politicians and news networks that have agendas to protect.

We need to change our asylum laws and start separating children from adults until they have DNA tests that prove they are related. These caravans are not just an American immigration crisis, they are a humanitarian crisis. There is no telling how many children have been taken from their families to be used to get into America. How many of them that were used for far more sinister purposes. How many of them were sold to the cartel in return for them to smuggle people into the U.S. It is a major crisis whether you want believe it or not.

"You made a good point, here is a completely unrelated statement." Okay. The point is you are talking about illegal immigration as a big problem, and not even addressing the main cause of illegal immigration. It is entirely disingenuous.

This was in response to your "history shows walls work". History shows mankind can easily defeat a wall.

Both are walls for keeping people from crossing a border, they both serve the same point

Except I have a large amount of family living in Texas near the border, and have visited the area way more than you I'm guessing. Are you picturing some sort of warzone near the border? Illegal mexican gangs roaming the streets murdering law abiding citizens on sight? Spoiler alert: America near the border isn't much different than America anywhere else. I'm not willfully ignorant of anything, I'm speaking to the actual reality on the ground.

We need to change our asylum laws and start separating children from adults until they have DNA tests that prove they are related.
Yeah, we need to separate MORE familys. JFC.

What in the world are you basing this on?

"I have no factual numbers, so I'll just make a baseless claim saying that there is no way to count how many children have been kidnapped."

Like I said, I am all for slowing/stopping illegal immigration, but there are bigger issues facing America right now. And there are better ways to do it than building an expensive ass wall. Start arresting people employing illegal immigrants and see how quickly the problem solves itself.

Come on dude. The wall that Trump wants is farcical and a waste of money. Walls actually don’t work. People breach them all the time. The cost to build along the border is insanely high and we have 2x many people overstaying their visas. Immigration is not nearly the issue it is portrayed to be.

I just watched a documentary that talked about how cannabis was given the name Marijuana to tie it to Mexicans.

Amazing the perceived fear some have.

How people are being kidnapped from the caravans.

Thousands gone missing. Only 270 located, 90% of which were males. Doesn't take a genius to figure out where the women went. It is a sick and fvcked up world.

I said it has been proven that walls work, especially if we're sticking to the purpose of our wall. Not to keep armies out.

And I never claimed it was a war zone at the border or that there were Mexican gangs murdering law abiding citizens in every border town. Sheesh. I just believe the people who are doing the work there when they say we are in a crisis. Even Obama's NSA said we are in a crisis. But you have family that says different?

I really don't care whether the wall gets built. But let's not pretend that the people crossing the border is not a problem. Again. The fact that people are over staying their visas has absolutely nothing to do with the current crisis. It is just a stupid deflection.

Trump should have followed tax breaks with a comprehensive infrastructure bill. Dems have been clamoring for infrastructure for years. This would have put them in a pickle. Really hope the two sides can meet here.
I hope that they don't. They will end up dumping money into large shit projects just like the big dig in Boston that benefit a very few.

The Democrats will not give Trump a win. The republicans will not give Pelosi a win. That is great.

All the rest of us are the winners when they are at each other's throat. My cousin James Madison figured it all out before 1789 and it was ratified then. The bigger the fight the better.

The wall between Israel and Palestinians works nearly 100%.

Where do you get your news from? CNN?

You are not very smart if you believe that walls don't work.

Where were your educated?
In my office I have a picture of the evolution of barbed-wire. It basically ended migration of animals.

With that said, some of my family has adopted Mexican heritage children. IMO, there has to be a better solution than a wall. You know me and mine though, We're a big softie to all, some say to a fault.

Well good laws and a wall work. I find it incredible that a man capable of amassing millions as you did is that simple.

If someone over stays their visas they will eventually needs services and will be caught and deported. Put it on their record and they never get the second visa to come back.

You need to travel more and find out how nasty even Canada can be if they think you are playing games with them.

I've always thought the wall was a waste of money. (Like mentioned above, the vast majority of immigrants who are here illegally didn't cross through the desert, they come through the ports of entry legally.)

That was until two days ago, watching 60 Minutes. Sure, those caravans aren't actually making it into the U.S., but stopping them and taking care of them until they're granted access or sent back home is taking up a lot of our resources. I now have no problem building a wall.

I do believe the current laws are the biggest issue. The wall won't help unless we make changes to the asylum process. With the current laws the way they are, the wall would be a waste of money.

On the real though, I don’t see this “project” ever being completed.

I think it'll be interesting to see what comes out of the infrastructure meeting today. It SHOULD be a bipartisan issue, like criminal justice reform, but my guess is it gets blown into a partisan circus just like immigration. Maybe I'm just being pessimistic.

Went well I bet old joe Biden through the remote through the tv

How is visa overstays less of a problem than illegal crossings?

Well....walls work pretty well around a hockey rink but the puck still occasionally gets out.
To be fair, I’m not against walls in some areas. But they are pretty ineffective and treat the symptom, not the cause. We have a cheap labor addiction in this country. Always have. Immigrants will always be wanted.
