6th Annual College Basketball Draft

@MGC_07

I’m just messing around, man. I actually liked the pick too.
Just that one, or were there other picks you liked too?

Just that one, or were there other picks you liked too?

I think you definitely hit the mark with your first two picks. If Kansas is going to have an All-American, and they often do, it's going to be Jalen Wilson. Wong is the 2nd most likely player in the ACC, behind Bacot, to be 1st Team All-Conference.

This thing is a crapshoot, as I'm sure you know. We don't get to see how these guys develop over the summer. That's the biggest unknown variable. We take in prior performances, and maybe some things we've heard from pundits - but, we're mostly just guessing...

I think your last pick, Joe Girard, has a good chance of contending for the ACC scoring title; probably right up there with Terquavion Smith. And that seems reasonable to me. He's a high-volume shooter and Cuse lost a lot of scorers last year. So, he should have plenty of opportunities to shoot the ball.

@GE Nole which FSU player for you think is the best to take? Mills or Cleveland

Good question. Mills will likely shoot and score more. But I’ve heard very good stuff from the staff about Jalen Warley this offseason so Mills might do a little less playmaking. Still, he’ll have the ball in his hands a lot.

Cleveland is gonna make more highlight plays, and be the better overall player. He’s got the potential to be a strong, versatile defender. BUT, he’s missed like 6 weeks with a broken toe or something foot related, so he might be rusty to start the season. Also, will his perimeter shooting really be better? Staff says it is, but sometimes I’m just thinking they are trying to build his confidence.

Neither will make ACC 1st team, because FSU players don’t. But both have a solid shot at 2nd team and both could land on an all tourney team. Cleveland maybe all defense ACC?

Baba Miller is going to be a good one, too. Downfall is never knowing how much usage/playing time these guys are going to get.

Baba will come off the bench to start the season, IMO. But with the injury to Gainey (which I’m sooooo effing disappointed by), I expect Baba to be top 4 in minutes played on the team and likely be a first round draft pick.

ACC 6th man of the year!

Would be the 5th year in a row winning the 6th Man of the Year lol. Excited to see Baba Miller. He looks really good on film.

Losing Gainey is a huge bummer. Really solid defender / rim protector. I heard Randolph Childress say that if FSU didn't lose him, he would have picked Florida State to win the league.

If it makes you feel any better, Manhattan might be losing their entire team to the portal, just less than two weeks from the start of the season.

Mouhamed Gueye, Washington State

A lot of talent but disappeared a lot last year. Seems like a reasonable risk at this point in the draft.

@dukedevilz, back to you.

It’s pretty much a stonewall of silence after every one of my picks, and I can’t imagine it’s because they’re so good it’s intimidating everyone.

For such a meaningless thing, it has me ready to jump off a bridge.
Just like in the real world, this league needs ditch diggers.

Its a pretty darn tough blow. I talked to Hamilton two weeks ago and he was trying to exude positivity but even he admitted it will limit our defensive versatility and interior presence. And if Naheem gets hurt again…

I think that’s why I’m so bummed about it. Feels like it’s been nothing but bad breaks since the moment the NCAAT was canceled on our best team ever. When is the luck gonna turn? Idk. I don’t blame Randolph, I think I might agree to be honest.

What the heck is going on for Manhattan?! That seems pretty wild.

Supposedly at least 7 players are going to transfer out - crazy move by the AD this soon to the season. Have to think she is backed by the president of the school, or would be fired.

Tough blow, no question. Some of those freshmen bigs are going to have to step up. Still a top 25 team that's going to cause a lot of problems for everyone in the league, IMO.

Have no idea what's going on with Manhattan. But, to make that decision two weeks prior to the start of the season is wild. Would love to know what the back story is. Unless he did something unethical, gotta imagine he and the AD had some pretty big arguments.

Never heard of him.

You've never heard of Umoja Gibson? He was the leading scorer last season of a school which Trae Young attended.

Mouhamed Gueye, Washington State

A lot of talent but disappeared a lot last year. Seems like a reasonable risk at this point in the draft.

@dukedevilz, back to you.

The talent is definitely there. He'll be a fun player to follow.

Unfortunately, the reason I can’t pick in a timely manner is that I don’t have time to sit on my ass currently.
Fun fact: You don't have to sit on your ass to use your cell phone.

Fun fact 2: You can post a message on a message board with your cell phone.

Happy to clear that up!

Probably not something they teach at Duke to their sociology majors.

Corhen probably needs a year to really establish himself but he’s looked good and gonna play early. De’Ante Green is a redshirt candidate given he tore his ACL in January, but we will see.

And yes, there has to be something behind the scenes.

Seems a little dicey to be passing on him this late in the draft, though. Crazy efficient. I could see him averaging north of 20 ppg.

His transformation from Michigan State to Davidson has been stunning. At MSU, he looked more like a backup for a school in the MAC. Sometimes a change of coaches, scenery, and roles can do wonders for a player.

The skill has always been there, and I think Dayton playing him honestly more as 2 guard is helpful. He can absolutely shoot the fvck out of it, but him trying to handle the offense while being so physically outmatched at the high major level was something he just couldn’t handle.

Really happy for him though. By all accounts a great teammate. I got to watch him a bunch in highschool. Just a 5’10 ish white kid demolishing everyone. It was always super entertaining.

@dukedevilz , how many points you get for mid major Conference DPOY?

It's based on the KenPom Ranks.

Defensive POY Points
-4 points if the conference has 4 teams in the top 50 (usually just the Power 6 conferences)
-3 points if the conference has 4 teams in the top 100 (last year this was the AAC, A-10, MWC, WCC, CUSA, and MVC)
-2 points points for all other conferences

Missouri Valley only has 2 KenPom teams in the Preseason top 100, so their DPOY will likely only receive 2 points this year.

The #4 team in Conference USA is preseason #99 in KenPom. So, they're borderline for receiving 3 points for DPOY (Jamarion Sharp, more than likely).

Surprised he is still there. I'll take preseason 1st team All Big 12 pick Avery Anderson III. If he can improve his efficiency, he can do big things.

Alright, here's the full list of available prospects. Should be around 300 guys on here. Anyone that is bolded was ranked in the top 100 by one of the three aforementioned lists.

Someone on that list will go undrafted and make us all look like chumps.

Undoubtedly. We miss some breakout stars every year. In our 5-year history, I believe we've had three undrafted players earn 1st Team All-American honors. Trae Young, Luka Garza (2020 season), and Johnny Davis.

Should be some fun picks in Rounds 11 and 12; I imagine a few of us will try to find that diamond in the rough.

Katz is a stan for the Big Ten these days. I take what he says with a grain of salt.

He has some horrible takes. Maybe he's trying to stand out from others and not go with carbon copy picks. But, still, his predictions are usually quite terrible.
