7th Annual College Basketball Draft

I dropped the DPOY/1st team CAA player in Amari Williams and Branden Carlson who was first team all PAC 12. Hope that doesn’t bite me, but I did so to help keep zeigler. Their win shares were all pretty me’h. Just wondering how much points I may ultimately leave on the table.

Pretty crazy to me that Dickinson is 2nd team and McCullar is HM. I'd consider McCullar their best and most important player, even though he missed a few games.

Definitely their most valuable player. Think he got docked for missing too many games. If McCullar were healthy, I think he would have been 1st Team All-American. Best two-way player in the country.

Oh I know that's probably the reason. I just think it's flawed since he only missed 6 games.

Of course, I'd have also put LeDee, Shannon and Love above Dickinson too.

Yeah, I'm with you. Think he deserved to at least be 2nd Team. And Dickinson's defense is really bad, too. Doesn't matter what coverage you put him in, he's not good. Huge liability. I'd have him on 3rd Team - maybe even HM AA.

And Terrence Shannon I thought was closer to being 1st Team than 3rd Team. I'd probably put Filipowski on the 3rd Team.

BTW, if I were to ask you who has more 1st team All-American's all time, Purdue or Kentucky, what would you guess?

Even more stunning. 6 voters didn't put Dalton Knecht on their first team ballot. Dafuq were they watching?

Pretty crazy. I thought he was the consensus #2 player in the country. Might be a regional thing where some may have voted for a few guys in the Midwest/West instead for those last spots on the 1st Team.

Most everyone would naturally think Kentucky. But, if you're asking the question, it must be Purdue. I have a decent recollection of All-American selections from the past 30 years or so. I'd guess Purdue must have had quite a few 1st Team AAs way back when that are largely unknown today.

These are some of the players I believe were 1st Team AA.

Purdue:
Zach Eddy
Carsen Edwards
Caleb Swaynigan
JaJuan Johnson
Glenn Robinson
Joe Barry Carroll
John Wooden

I don't think Ivey, Hummel, Etwaun Moore, or Brian Cardinal were 1st Team Selections.. I know I'm missing some guys.

Kentucky:
Oscar Tshiebwe
Tyler Ulis
Willie Cauley-Stein
Anthony Davis
John Wall
DeMarcus Cousins
John Wall
Ron Mercer
Tony Delk
Jamal Mashburn
Jack Givens
Louie Damper
Dan Issel
Cliff Hagan

... Sheesh. I must be missing a lot here.

Most all time:

Kansas 32
Purdue 28
Kentucky 27

You are correct that most of Purdue’s were a long time ago. That said, it is interesting to me that, after going 16 years without an All-American of any kind, Purdue has had someone make at least HM AA 14 times in the last 15 years.

UK has had 50 AP All-Americans. 27 1st team. 63 (94 times) total with other publications.

UNC also has 27 and Duke 24.

KU leads the way again with 25 different players, followed by UK with 22, Duke with 21 and Purdue with 19.

This is a stat that has hurt the OAD's. Davis, Randle, Towns, Zion, RJ could have all been 1st team if they came back for multiple years.

Which I can't help to wonder.., Has Purdue done less with more than any other school in history as far as tournament success goes?

Depends on how you look at it. Purdue’s reality is they’ve had coaches who were mediocre recruiters but excellent talent developers and guys who’ve been able to make the sum much greater than the parts. That builds great regular season teams but talent tends to win out in the tournament.

Painter has had 10 different All-Americans at some level in the last 15 years but only one of them (Swanigan) was a 5 star recruit. I think only Swanigan and Moore were top 50 recruits.

Here's a breakdown of the schools with the most 1st Team AP All-Americans. These selections date back to the 1947-48 season. I wasn't too far off when I was trying to guess the 1st Team AAs for Kentucky/Purdue. I had 14 and 7, respectively.

Anyone know who the Regional MOPs were? I am pretty sure Burns was one of them. Probably Edey. Maybe Sears?

I would've removed Shannon and Schieffelin from those team because of their piss por E8 performances.

Draft Results are in! @GE Nole kicked everyone's butt. He earned his 2nd career draft title (previous one was the 2019-20 season). His most valuable players were taken in Rounds 4-7. RJ Davis, Jamal Shead, and Mark Sears were all in the top 5 for individual points, and none of them were taken in the first 3 rounds. The draft is not won in Round 1. My team had a decent finish; I actually drafted much better with my last 5 picks than my first 5 picks.

FINAL STANDINGS
1. GE Nole, 97.7
2. IUfanBorden, 89.7
3. dukedevilz, 85.5

4. FaithPlusOne, 78.8
5. ThePhog08, 77.4
6. boilerzz, 72.9
7. WojoRising, 71.3
8. WeAreDePaul, 64.4
9. Necessary Roughness, 57.9
10. duckboy33, 52.8
11. lurkeraspect84, 39.7

And here is the team-by-team breakdown.

refresh my memory, what was the draft order? Looking to see who improved their position the most vs who fell off the most.

True Standings based on how people did relative to draft position:

1. The Phog = +5
2. GE Noles = +4
3. WeAreDePaul = +3
3. FaithPlusOne = +3
5. Boilerz = broke even
5. Necessary Rough = broke even
7. IU Borden = -1
7. Dukedevilz = -1
9. Lurker = -3
10. WojoRising = -4
11. Duckboy = -6

@duckboy33 getting relegated to the women's CBB draft league.

It's a game of luck and chance. I would say you go a little too hard on the Kentucky ties. DJ Wagner, Aaron Bradshaw, Daimion Collins, Bryce Hopkins, and Jamal Mashburn Jr.

Bryce Hopkins did have a season-ending injury, though. I'd just try to diversify your picks a little bit.

Thanks again for doing this. Always a blast!

Absolutely! Always love this draft.

And thinking about the draft next season, I feel like it's going to be significantly harder. Continuity exists with very few teams. Transfers galore this offseason. Some of those guys will skyrocket with a change of scenery/new coach - and other guys will take a dip in production. But, that's the beauty of these things. It's not super predictable!

I, for one, am looking forward to taking all the players others don't want.
