8th Annual College Basketball Draft

I'm willing to take him this round if you want to delete this message. He looked really good against Tennessee. I wouldn't at all be shocked if he's 1st Team All-Conference. He might actually have the highest ceiling on the team.
I agree. I made my 10th round pick right before the Tennessee game and instantly regretted not taking him then. After that result, I figured there was no way he was getting back to me.

Of the power conferences, the Big Ten is easily the most challenging one to predict who the 1st Teamers will be. No Big Ten guys in the top 10; but, there were 17 in the top 100. And I'd say Myles Rice has a better shot than several of these guys taken. Only 15 spots on the All-Big Ten teams. So, a few of these players will miss out completely.

11. Oumar Ballo, Indiana
16. Braden Smith, Purdue
20. Great Osobor, Washington
23. Ace Baldwin, Penn State
26. Mackenzie Mgbako, Indiana
28. Jackson Shelstad, Oregon
33. Dylan Harper, Rutgers
46. Malik Reneau, Indiana
47. Vlad Goldin, Michigan
48. Bruce Thornton, Ohio State
56. Payton Sandfort, Iowa
59. Ace Bailey, Rutgers
63. Dawson Garcia, Minnesota
86. Kasparas Jakucionis, Illinois
89. Steven Crowl, Wisconsin
90. Brooks Barnhizer, Northwestern
92. Sebastian Mack, UCLA

Fletcher Loyer
Ben Humrichous
TJ Bamba
Jaden Akins

@dukedevilz, is this the deepest year ever? Out of the last 15 or so picks, there have only been like 2 guys taken that were on my radar and I've easily got another 15-20 guys that I'd be happy to pick up. I feel like we could go 15 rounds this year and I'd be happy with my final pick.

Makes me wish the standby guys decided to do the draft this year.

counter point: Your team sucks

I thought I was going to be carried out of the arena on people’s shoulders to the sound of cheers and praise for these picks. I fully expected several comments from people that they had earmarked these guys for much earlier but had forgotten.

Instead, these were the two quietest picks of the draft. Is that from a place of fear by my fellow draftees? Maybe. It hurt the nonetheless.
My picks were met with the same crickets. Take that how you will

When you have 5th and 6th years guys available, it certainly makes the draft deeper. I'd also say this freshman class is actually pretty strong. That helps. I have a solid 20 players I'm considering myself and it's tough to differentiate one guy from the next.

Biggest change this year is we're down one power conference. The power leagues are given an additional point for 1st Team All-Conference, so I'm glad that's encouraged more P5 players. In the past, I think you could easily draft a top 3 team if you drafted 6-7 mid-major guys.

We have had some pretty strong drafts in the past, though. The JV team I took last year beat 3 teams. And check out some of these late picks from the 2022 draft (12 teams that year). There are almost always going to be studs not taken in the top 100 picks.

2021-22 Draft
109. Walker Kessler, 3rd Team All-American
110. Zach Edey, HM All-American
142. Keegan Murray, 1st Team All-American

Agree on all of that. I still like to take a few mid-major guys to round things out in case I whiff on the high major picks.

I was a big believer in picking PAC 12 guys in prior years. Most of the board wouldn’t really pay attention to them so you could get some value later in the draft.

Mid-major guys are still valuable because they're reliable for getting decent points; it increases the odds that your top 9 players have a reasonably high floor. But, I don't think you can get to the podium now if half of your team has a low ceiling.

2-3 mid-major players is probably fair. And I'm with you on the Pac-12 guys. I usually took a couple each year. I got Jaime Jaquez at #32 and Bennedict Mathurin at #41 in the first year that I won the draft. I was absolutely shocked that Mathurin was still around that late.

For sure. Those guys offer some insurance but are not a primary strategy.

Damnit @IUfanBorden! I gave you multiple opportunities. And you now give me no choice. After his performance in the exhibition, it's pretty clear that he is your 2nd best player (maybe 1st) and a likely All Big Ten performer. So that's who I'm taking.

Give me Myles...uh.....

@WeAreDePaul and @IUfanBorden are on the clock.

We gotta be almost done right? I have no idea who anyone is at this point lol

Julian Reese, Maryland
Yaxel Lendeborg, UAB

Yaxel Lendeborg was taken in Round 6.

But yes, almost done. Last round. Hopefully we finish today or tomorrow.

I’m very happy with the potential of my last couple of rounds. I’m pretty confident in Timberlake being AE POY this year, and I love Ndongo’s potential despite GT likely being mediocre.

Okay, it's been 12 hours so I'll go ahead and take my last pick. Little bit of a risk with this flopping (similar to Solo Ball), but his upside is really good...

Boogie Fland, Arkansas

@JimboBBN feel free to take your last pick whenever. @ThePhog08 can also take his last pick now.

I was going to take Ndongo with my next pick so you can take that as a good sign or a bad sign.

I usually just take a flyer on my 12th pick. If I get any points from it then it means I struck gold late or I whiffed really badly on the other picks.

For sure. Always a bonus if you can get anything out of your 12th rounder.

I've taken more risky picks this year than I normally do. 4 freshmen & Solo Ball. In an addition to the freshman Dylan Harper, I've got 2 other Big Ten guys - not an easy conference to make all-league when there's 18 teams. So, I might have been better off going with a safer pick.

I think my team's floor is fairly modest this year. But, I feel pretty good about the ceiling.
