7th Annual College Basketball Draft

Damnit man. That was the guy I wanted. 6.0 win share last year and preseason MVC POY.

Looks like I need to go with my backup. I'll take the Big South POY and his 7.1 win share from last year. Give me Drew Pember from Asheville.

@GE Nole is on the clock.
I had Pember last year. If he were still there next round I would have taken him again.

Sheesh. I was wanting Pember, but was selfishly hoping to get him for maybe round 8 or so. He plays for hometown school, but yes, he's an absolute Win Share magnet.

It's interesting to look at. Last year, less than 30 players scored more than 10 points. Pember scored 9.9 (you must've used a site that gave him 6.9 WS). So, technically, that's about a late 3rd round or early 4th round play.

Getting him in the 6th is a windfall as barring injury, he may be the nation's most likely lock for conference POY (Devries, Edey and Daron Holmes are in a battle for 2nd IMO) so that should give him 3 points. Then, if he can bump his win shares up even a little, he can be a top 20 guy.

Pretty wild that neither 247 nor Making the Madness list him among their top 100 players.

I got him really late last year. Without looking it up I want to say it was a double digit round pick. It might have been the steal of the draft.

Edit to add: just looked it up. 10th round with the 113th pick.

You guys need to pick it up. I’m going to Vegas Thursday morning and highly doubt I’ll be looking at this. So let’s pick up the pace.

And if you respond to this by pointing out how long it takes me to make my picks that’s called gaslighting and it’s not cool.

I think the worst thing about this is zeroing in on a guy and realizing you have to wait 15 picks before your next selection.

There's has beens, will be's and then never was' and that is Jabari Parker.

Terrible defender. One of the worst to ever wear a Duke uniform. To his credit, though, how many guys have been 1st Team All-American and averaged 20+ ppg in an NBA season?

He didn't meet expectations; the talent was clearly there. But, I'll give him a little break since he had multiple ACL tears. In his prime, his skillset likely made him a top 25 player on the offensive side of the ball. Just a massive liability on defense.

I knew I was undervaluing him, as far as where I was trying to draft him. Was just hoping to steal him in a latter round. Wasn't seeing any true mid-majors taken, so I was thinking there was a chance.

But, what you said makes a lot of sense. He's technically worth the value of a 3rd/4th round pick. So, probably too risky to hope he's available after that. I just try to shoot for the fence with my first 4-5 picks, and hope I can draft an All-American or HM All-American, so I'm less likely to take a true mid-major. Getting Pember in Round 6 is really excellent value.

Yup. I actually looked up beforehand when he was taken - and I figured I needed to take him a few rounds earlier. So, Round 8 was kind of the target round for me.

I did the same thing with Brandon Miller last year, too. I knew I wanted him, and I was taking a chance, but I didn't think anyone was going to take him in the first three rounds. I'd like to go after two potential All-Americans, instead of just one... sometimes the risk pays off, sometimes it doesn't.

I'll give @JimboBBN credit for the steal of the draft last year. He took Jalen Pickett, the 5th most valuable player (15.3 points), with the 101st pick last year. Unfortunately for Jimbo, the rest of his picks were kind of meh.

I blame it on injuries. How fun was 13-14 though Wiggins, Parker, Julius Randle, Aaron Gordan. That was a fun class

A fun class, indeed! And Embiid was in that class, as well. Unfortunately, we never got to see him play in the tournament.

too bad, just think of all the flopping he could've done in the various tourney sites.

Hey @dukedevilz, how is our pacing? I forget how many rounds we are drafting. Are we on track to finish before the season starts?

Not great, to be honest. We've completed 16 full days and had 62 picks, so that's 3.88 picks per day. If you omit the one day that we lost waiting for BasketballJunkie, then it only bumps up to 4.1 picks per day.

We have 13 days until the start of the season. There are still 70 picks remaining, which means we need to draft 5.4 picks a day to make it by the season's start. We're behind schedule. I'm thinking about dropping the 24-hour clock to 12 hours sometime this weekend.

If anyone knows they'll be out for an extended period of time, feel free to send me a top 5/10 list to me: dukedevilz@yahoo.com

lol you would do that. And if not you, then maybe WeAreDePaul.

Good thing it's not my personal email account. I've got over 10k emails in this account that I don't really use anymore (essentially a spam account now). But, I'll take time to look at someone's top 5/10 list, because I'm thoughtful like that.

Allow me to make all my picks right now and that could shave a considerable amount of time off. No?

at this point I would say that anyone who wants to pick all their players right now are allowed provided that they pick all their remaining players from the same school. Doesn't even have to be the school they root for.

Absolutely! Go for it.

Who are we waiting on? If they're a repeat offender on wasting time I say we skip them until he posts.

@duckboy33 is on the clock. He's got 7-8 hours left. If the pace doesn't pick up soon, then I'm going to drop the 24 hour clock to 12 hours for the remainder of the draft.

My thought for next year is this:
1 violation of going over time- your clock going forward is reduced to 16 hours
2 violations of going over time- your clock going forward is reduced to 8 hours
3 violations- you have to message/email me your top available players.

what's the rush? Have we ever not finished the draft before the season started? No.

And give @duckboy33 a break. He keeps getting held up cause he's trying to research the best players in the PAC, but he keeps coming up with no results since there is no PAC anymore.

Season starts November 6th. We finished the draft last year on November 4th. We were drafting at a quicker pace last year, too.

I'll give it a few more days, though.

I say you give everyone a 12 hr window and if they miss it, the next guy can poach one of their picks. That might light a fire under some asses.

I’ll take Da Silva from Colorado.

I’ve been busy at work, if I’m slowing it down, feel free to skip me.

@Necessary Roughness is up

and every year we get to this point and you and others get their panties in a bunch about us not finishing on time...and then low and behold, we finish on time.

I remember last year speeding up some closer to the end of the draft. The picks feel less vital so people think less about them.
