Will Bron END UP the GOAT?

Well yea. I haven’t argued otherwise lol

That’s step one. The first step in seeing if a Jordan truther is just blowing smoke out their ass is to see if their “but titles!” angle translates. I’ll see people say Jordan is the best because he won so many titles and then argue that Manning was better than Brady.

My good friend thinks Jordan is undeniably the best nba player of all time. He always cites titles.

He doesn’t think Tom Brady is the best QB of all time and dismisses titles.

Anyone that thinks one is the GOAT because of the titles but doesn’t also think the other is GOAT has a bias against one. In my friends case it’s that he A- grew up a Jordan fan, B- is a Packers fan (packer fans are delusional and can’t admit Brady > Aaron Rodgers).

Different sports require different factors when figuring out who is the GOAT. It's entirely reasonable to put more weight on titles for a guy who plays 5v5 as opposed to a guy who plays 11v11 and isn't even on the field for half the game.

I’m not gonna say one is better than the other but we sure have been lucky as fans to witness the 2 best players of all time for pretty much 30 years straight now. I wonder how long it will be until another player comes along and plays himself into the GOAT conversation.

We get it. You are a fanboy that changes your narrative based on which childhood idol you need to defend.

I'll argue all day Brady is the GOAT.

I will definitely say Lebron is the best player... of his time. I love watching him, but I'd give the edge to MJ.

He came to the league 2 years older, won 3 championships, left to play baseball, came back to win 3 more championships, retired for 3 years, came back for 2 years as a publicity stunt and still averaged 37min and 20ppg as a 39 year old.

According to 76er fans, it’s already in the making...

Jordan truthers be like:

“Jordan’s bulls could beat the 2017/18 Warriors. Jordan’s supporting cast was awesome.”

“Wait wait, Jordan never played with all stars so his supporting cast wasn’t that good!”

People love to forget how good Kukoc and Rodman were the second go around. Not to mention Horace Grant on the first run. He was All-Defensive Team four years straight and left the Bulls to go average 15 and 11 with Penny and Shaq. He was a stud.

And again, Pip lost in Game 7 to the Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals without the GOAT. The Bulls had a shitload of talent.

The Process is certainly a front runner to be crowned the best player in basketball once Lebron retires but he’s got a lot of work to do in order to become top 5 all time.

That’s the thing, though. They don’t forget. We just had this thread on The Fort. Jordan fanboys were insisting that Jordan’s bulls could beat the 2017/18 Warriors going through position by position why the Bulls would win.

Later in the thread that those posters were bringing up the All-Stars talking point to say why Lebron has better teammates.

Make up your damn minds, at least.

Got one. I knew throwing out Brady would get people to dismiss his titles (while pimping Jordan for his). It really exposss how bias plays into the conversation of GOAT.

Stating titles is such a hot take anyway, imo. So much more goes into it. It's one factor, of many. But it's an easy one for the MJ crowd to cling on to, so they tend to. I play the Horry card; you play the Brady card.

Its a huge factor, though. No one in their right minds would rank Robert Horry above a Kobe or LeBron strictly off titles. Kobe and LeBron had so much more fulfillment in their careers than Horry, and were the best or second best player on every team they played for. Horry was not. He's known for hitting some big shots in clutch moments, but what else? Nada.

Ok Bill Russell. Where does he rank in your top 5?

Which is why it's one of many factors. It's a damn important one, too. But, too many people act like it's the be-all, end-all. It's getting tough for the MJ crowd these days, though, so they are holding tightly to it.

Its not, and I'm not in the MJ crowd. I'm in the Kobe crowd ;)

I think I put him at number 5 yesterday? Above Kobe but below LeBron

How can you put Lebron over a player that averaged 15 points and 22 rebounds a game over his career and led his team to 13 finals appearances and 11 titles in 13 seasons?

If titles are are as important as Jordan fans insist, Russell has to be #2.

Even worse. Winking

And yeah, I knew you weren't an MJ lover, which is why I probably value your opinion more. Almost all of my friends are MJ lovers, and they hate me when I bring this shit up. It's a product of growing up in central Illinois and idolizing Barkley in my formative years. Heh.

Uhm seriously, you really don't see the difference between the sport of football and the sport of basketball?

I'm not the one who sounds like an unreasonable fan boy.

And yes, you’re the fanboy that insists titles matter when it’s a player you like but dismiss then when it’s a player you don’t like. Your bias shines bright.

Scottie is one guy, though. You could say LBJ never won without Wade, never won without Bosh, never won without Kyrie, or Love. I think Scottie is a great player, too. But there's a difference in needing one future HOF to help and 2 or 3.

Didn't he play with Rodman?

It always comes back to this for me:

If I’m building a team, I’m taking Lebron every time because of his versatility and sheer dominance across multiple positions.

If I’m down by 10 and need buckets, or down by 2 with 5 seconds left, im taking Jordan because he is a better scorer than anyone I’ve ever seen play.
By this logic, you’d take Peyton over Brady

Peyton can play within multiple offensive systems. He is the system and elevates coaches and players. He reinvented how QBs read defenses and audibles.

Brady plays winning a strict system and suffers when the system breaks down. Yet, he is more clutch than Peyton.

I also take eras into my equation. Do you not do so as well when talking about BR?? Dude was the biggest and fastest player in time where there were a bunch of white dudes playing everywhere. He wouldn't have nearly the success playing in the 70's and forward. But 11 titles is 11 titles, so that puts him at 5 for me.

Should be higher if titles are as important as you insist.

I do love me some MJ, don't get me wrong. He's just not my favorite! I've actually grown quite fond of LBJ over the years as well. I used to be a HUGE hater, back when he single handily beat my Pistons in the playoffs. But over the years I've just come to appreciate his greatness. I'm not sure if I'll see a player like LeBron in my lifetime again. He's that special.

Right now, the best bet is your boy Brow. I think he'll be the next face of the league, health permitting. Still a ways to go, though.

Even as good as Davis is, and I love him haha, I don't think he can be LBJ special. But I hope you're right, and he stays healthy and becomes the face of the league when LeBron hangs it up.

So put him higher on your list. He won against bad competition, so I can't put his titles on par with MJ's or the Magic's or LeBron's. I think 5 is perfect for Bill.

No I won’t put him on my top 5 list because I think a lot more goes into who the better player is than titles. You’re the one insisting titles are the biggest factor in rankings.

I think they are, but the fact that Russell played so much earlier than everyone else is kind of a big deal. If you put LBJ or Jordan in Russell's time, they probably win just as many titles. Russell in the current NBA or 90's, he's just another good player. BUT, 11 titles is 11 titles, like I said, so that has some weight in where I rank him.

I'll keep asking this question again until you answer it.

Do you believe that football is the same sport as basketball?

I don't have an answer regarding the greatest QB ever since I don't follow that sport closely enough. Haven't watched a single football game since I stopped playing fantasy 3 years ago.

But until you answer my question above it is obvious that you don't have a non 12 year old screaming boy response to my assertion that it is reasonable to put different weight on titles when comparing a sport that plays 5v5 vs a sport that plays 11v11 and the star isn't even on the field for half the game.

You're really coming off as immature and total fanboyish with your "responses".
