*Official* 2017-2018 B1G In-Season Thread

Green has been bad tonight. Past four games he has been really good. Tonight not so much.

I didn't mention Haarms b/c aside from blocking shots, he hasn't really shown much. He has tapered off as the season has went along. He does have a chance to be good.

Again, Boiler. You guys lose FOUR starters. We return FOUR starters. I'm not sure you realize just how big of a loss Mathias, PJ, Haas and Vince are going to be.

Oh I know losing 4 starters will be tough. But Haarms is averaging 5.5 PPG and 3.3 RPG as a freshman backing up Haas. I’d say that’s pretty solid and his defense/shotblocking will only improve.

Iowa is missing that 5th starter,
Nunge is not that piece, as he scored 18 vs OSU then started at the 3 tonight, in 12 minutes scored 0 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound and 1 Block.
Baer is the solid 6th man
Wagner is a backup only.

this is where Wieskamp will make a big difference, as he will be that 5th starter that is missing

its to bad Williams left when he did as he would have been a very good defensive PG that would have allowed Bohannon to 2 while Moss could have played at the 3,, at times.
this is where Connor getting ill and injured killed Iowa as he too would have played the PG while Bohannon played the 2 with Moss playing the 3.

this season has shown that Iowa needs 5 solid starters and not 4 with 3 players being the 6th man at the 3.
Nunge out grew the 3 and into a 4/5
Wagner is a solid defensive 3 with no offensive game,
Baer is what he is and that is a 6th Man
both Nunge and Garza should use the summer and fall to put on some muscle weight in the 10 lb range.
Cook needs to improve his FT shooting and stretch his outside shot out past arc to where he is hitting 35% or better. Cook is already being more aggressive in his rebounding.
Pemsl is already improving his inside game and just needs to keep improving his distance
Kriener just needs to avoid the concussions that have plagued him.

do that and the team should be back in the hunt for another NCAAT bid with a 20+ win season.

Wait now you’re changing your mind about Nunge? Maybe now you realize why IU/Purdue/all other Indiana schools passed on Nunge.

Agree. But not sure the jump he makes next year= "special".

Thought about next year's Big Ten for two seconds and here are my predictions:

1. Michigan
2. Maryland
3. Nebraska
4. Michigan State
5. Penn State
6. Purdue
7. Indiana
8. Ohio State
9. Iowa
10. Wisconsin
11. Illinois
12. Minnesota
13. Rutgers
14. Northwestern

I think 1-8 are tourney teams

I like OSU around 12th again, just like this year.

not changing my mind about Nunge. he just out grew the SF position growing from 6'7/8 to 7' changed the position he will end up playing, if he had stayed 6'7/8 he just might be starting at the 3.

big difference in what you are inferring.

If you have a KenPom subscription, I would suggest checking out Haarms' page. He hasn't tapered off really at all; his minutes have as Haas has taken on more minutes. And actually, his offensive numbers have gone up in B1G play.

He’s not as good as you said he was.

Not surprised. He’s had a really good year. Exceeded 100% of Purdue fans expectations.

Amazing....As bad as we were in the 1st half early, we've been just as bad,

to prove my point White started out as a 3 and ended his career as a 4
Uthoff started as a 3 and finished his career as a stretch 4.
Nunge started out as a 3 in HS and with growing to 7' that is a hard position to play so now the 4 or 5 is where he will end up, as of now Cook is the 4 so Nunge will split time at both the 4 and 5 going forward.

I htnk this is going to be one of those head scratching losses. Just not dialed in., And Illinois is hitting everything they throw up/\.

I do. He just doesn't seem to be as efficient as he was. Especially so defensively. I like the kid. Just seems as if he's kinda of stepped back.

Here’s an idea:

There’s a good chance Nunge won’t be as good as Uthoff and White. Not sure why you’re assuming he will be.

Illinois 7-8 in the 2nd half. A few have been , well, just crazy. Plus NO turnovers.

Not liking this at all. No way this should be a 2-point game. Disappointed.

He’s not as good as you said he was.
wanna bet as these are his stats off the bench
16.3 mpg 6th in scoring 6.3 ppg,
3rd in rebounding @ 5.1 rpg
2nd in steal with 18
2nd in Blocks with 21
those are damn good numbers

why do you hate on Nunge the way you do? is it because Painter screwed the pooch on not even offering him?

shooting 47.6% from the field with 17 of 47 from 3. he is much better than you want him to be.

Durham having a nice night. I like his future once he gets some experience.

Painter didn’t screw the pooch. Nunge wouldn’t have played at Purdue until maybe his junior year.

On a side note, Rick Bozich is a dbag for calling out Hummel on twitter. Hummel shut him down though.

Uthoff never played till his RSSO year vs Nunge is playing and has started 4 games as a FR. twice at the 3 and twice at the 5.
White was a solid rebounder and inside scorer with fans biggest complaint being he could not shoot the 3

these were Uthoff stats as a SO
18.2 MPG, 7.6 PPG, 4 RPG
123 total rebounds in 33 games, 11 steals and 35 blocks. as a FR Nunge is on par or ahead of Uthoff.

remember Uthoff didn't have his breakout season till his SR year, Nunge has 3 more years till his SR year to develop

don't forget Fran has developed 4 straight 1st BT teamers.

at this point in Nunge career he is a better 3 point shooter than White and has started 4 time vs Uthoff who never played till his RSSO season,

White started as a 4/5 frosh year. Woody came in the next year sliding everyone up. White was back at the 4 exclusively his senior year after melsahn, olaseni, and mccabe left.
