Do you hold the door open for strangers?

Wrong. Has nothing to do with "effort" and every thing to do with biology. Some of us don't believe you get to choose whether you're a female or a male. Biology determines that. So until there is concrete evidence (not hermaphrodites and other extremely rare genetic issues) transgender stuff is actually a real thing, I'm not buying into it. I'm not being a jerk. I'm not being rude. I'm just not agreeing with their made up cry for help.

Are you a Christian?
Just a question.

Yeap, you just proved your bias.

What a dumbass.
Admitting to my own bias is all the proof you should need.
Are you suggesting the studies I've seen are cherrypicked? Why wouldn't the same hold true for anyone claiming otherwise?

As for California's market, and having literally the highest GDP of any other state within the Continental US, how exactly would California be hurt if it finally decided to secede?
I heard some years ago that if California was its own separate country it would be top 10 in the world.

Nah, liberals never use skewed agenda-pushing polls or stats.

Sure we do. Just like conservatives. Conservatives have taken it to a new level with declaring everything they don't like "fake news," though.

I've been in the habit of cross-checking things pretty thoroughly since the last election.

I can't postanymore.

You guys see that thing about the guy in Toronto who ran over all those folks? He posted on Facebook a reference to “Elliot Rodger, who killed six and injured 14 in a drive-by shooting and vehicle ramming attack near the UC Santa Barbara campus in Isla Vista, California in 2014... Rodger was motivated to carry out his attack by a personal grievance related to his immersion in the extremist ideological subculture of men's rights activists propagated in several online forums such as 4Chan, which believe that women do not actually want gender equality and have been brainwashed by feminist propaganda.”

Goddamn extreme feminists... look what they make us men do!;)

If any posters in this thread suddenly stop posting yesterday, I think we know why.
Show of hands. How many in here have gone on a rampage over extreme shit? Don't be shy. I won't tell.

Lol. Never. Not at all. I think it's funny the Russia thing has been proven a hoax so now they're desperately trying to find something new to turn into a scandal all while largely ignoring all the bad shit that Comey, McCabe and other high ranking officers in the FBI/DOJ did during this whole thing. But, you know, Trump and all...

Is that influenced by your own right-of-center tendencies?
B/c I think the opposite, and I'm fully aware that my left-of-center tendencies may be a factor in that perception.
Actually I'm Libertarian, so I don't think my tendencies aren't necessarily one way or the other.

You sure about that?
What is it that the far right does that is so dangerous right now? I'm asking a serious question because honestly I don't know what they are doing? All I hear about all the time are the riots and anti free speech the left is going on about.

Hah! That's so awesome:) The far left is SO damn dangerous, with their whole "tranny men in the women's bathrooms!" and "gays adopting babies!" and "call us HUMANS, not MANKIND!"

But the heavily armed militias out in the woods... those guys aren't dangerous at all.
Give me actual actions that these "trained militias" have done. Show me the danger they have caused. Then I'll give you Antifa. The far left Soros group that riots, and prevents speakers on campuses not allowing them their first amendment rights. I'm sorry but any group willing to stop free speech, especially with violence is extremely dangerous IMO. Not to mention the far left wants socialism. True socialism always ends with millions dead.

Oh wow, good thing you added this, otherwise that'd have been a terribly horrendous post!!

I have many family members that are liberal. Or at least vote Dem. Funny thing is that when I have conversations with them, we typically agree on most things. This has been my experience with most Liberals. So why is there such a divide in this country? Granted, I'm Libertarian, but I also have much I agree with on the right. I think more people are Libertarian that just don't know it. I had no idea what one was until several years ago. That's when I stopped voting Republican only. This polar political environment isn't good for our country and IMO is tearing it appart.

I'd much rather be considered liberal than conservative. While politically, I am not either of these things technically, I'd much rather be associated with academia, science, philosophy, tech, free thinking and art than merely defending social normatives. I somewhat feel sorry for social conservatives because I feel like they don't know any better. But I do like money.
I don't think you truly know social conservatives with a statement like that.

I can't get into this Boiler, sorry... just a dead end. Plus, why can't you respond, like, when the thread is active? I literally don't remember what this post was about.

I'll just make a few random points:

A) I was responding to this idea that "the far left" is dangerous, but ignoring the far right. When people here rail about the "far left" they are generally angry at that wacked out Cali professor or a lesbian with purple hair who endorses the term "womyn" over "woman" or gay people who think they should be able to get a cake from whomever they want. That isn't dangerous, or it is at least not as dangerous as the right wing militia guys who are literally training to shoot American soldiers and threatening that, if certain gun laws are passed legally and in ways outlined by our constitution, that approved government officials would have to pry certain guns out of their cold, dead hands.

B) I feel like you don't know the actual facts. Here:

http://fortune.com/2017/02/13/donal...y-cve-right-wing-extremism-terrorism-germany/

https://www.usatoday.com/story/opin...re-they-are-erroll-southers-column/577308001/

The VAST majority of violence and murders by extremists over the past decade in the United States have been committed by right wing extremists. I know Antifa gets press on the right wing media sites, but they actually don't do much.

C) No, groups of college kids protesting hate-spewing pervert assholes and liars like Milos "Sex abuse isn't that bad" Yiannopoulos from spreading their nonsense are not that dangerous.

D) First, I have never met a single American who wants the United States to be fully socialist. MANY Americans feel that our key services, like medical care and education, should NOT be profit driven, but I don't see ANYONE of importance calling for all business to be in the hands of the collective and not the private citizen. True socialism ends with millions of people dead? Huh? Do you mean communism?

You are treating "socialism" like some boogeyman. There are some aspects of our society that will work better for the American people if they reflect a more capitalist approach, and there are some aspects of our society that will work better for the American people if they reflect a more socialist approach. Not sure how anyone could advocate for entirely one or the other, and I've never seen anyone of note do that.

The FAR far left and FAR far right are generally equally dumb, and equally small. Most of us reasonable people are closer to the middle, and have more common ground that differences.

If professional writing instructors recommend that you avoid gender-exclusive language that could come across as sexist and you refuse to do so, isn't it your own fault for how you chose to represent yourself if others do think you're sexist?

That's the same logic as claiming modern day feminists are responsible for how they portray themselves.
How are modern day feminists NOT responsible for how they portray themselves?

Are you kidding me? First you complain that I am making mountains out of molehills and go on too long, and then when I shorten it up you accuse me of not providing context? Do you see how that might be ridiculous?

First, I posted the very definition of feminist. I've stuck with that. Not YOUR take on what it means, not any one particular person's take; the definition what an ACTUAL FEMINIST is. That's not extreme; it's a definition.

People responded by saying that there is big difference between thinking men and women should have equal opportunities and feminism (which there is not; that is just about the definition of feminism) and then we got into a discussion of taking the word "man" out of words, which is almost as surface a discussion as you can have about feminism.

You then dropped the line "Men are women were not created to be equal. We were created to be polar opposites."

Uh... dude, that is completely unreasonable. Like... completely. The polar opposite of "man" is not "woman"; in fact, we are nearly identical in every way... we share DNA, we are driven by things like love and success and fear, we like to eat food and watch TV... you get the idea.

You then went on to complain that women aren't focusing on equality where it is fair and reasonable. That's a BIG statement. Yes they do; you just don't see stories in the National Review and Breitbart about it, because that isn't how those outlets will get people fired up. Nope; they get you fired up by focusing on this nutjob professor. Most feminists focus on those exact same issues you are talking about; it is only a VERY tiny (but magnified) few who go on about "womyn" or whatever.

Listen, I have taken these "crazy" stances:

I look at the definition of feminism when I discuss feminism. I also look at the people I deal with regularly. Neither of those focus on the "outskirt" issues, like "policeperson". They both focus on the bigger picture issues; pay equality, job opportunity equality (where it is justified), and so on.

I do not think men and women are polar opposites; I believe they are far more similar.

I do not think that the image of feminist that is so often referenced by people on the right is accurate. I just don't. My guess is that your view of what a feminist is is NOT created by the actual definition of feminism, nor by people you know; my guess is that it is created by what you read about online about feminists and pussy hats and angry lady college professors in California.

And yes, "extreme feminism" is ABSOLUTELY a right wing boogeyman, in the same way that neo nazi militias are a left wing boogeyman; they exist, but their influence is miniscule compared to their influence. I am not sure how you dispute that.
How do men and women not have equal opportunities? Can you give examples?
