8th Annual College Basketball Draft

2,4,6 and 10. I guess I should have drafted Curtis Jones instead of Keshon Gilbert.

I love Donovan Dent. I was hoping to draft him in Round 5. Fun player to watch, but unfortunately, you often need to have a combination of really good stats and a really good team if you're not in a P5 conference (I don't agree with that, but that's fairly typical). PJ Haggerty and Ryan Nembhard were the only non-P5 players to make the midseason watch list.

I'll try and get stats posted in 2 weeks. And then You all can have another 2 weeks to deliberate on your final 9 players.

Feel pretty strongly that this will be the 1st Team All-American team:
Braden Smith, Purdue
PJ Haggerty, Memphis
Kam Jones, Marquette
Cooper Flagg, Duke
Johni Broome, Auburn

The USBWA released the midseason Oscar Robertson top 50 list.

Below is who has the most players picked:

I think we have a good idea who is not finishing high this year (sorry @WojoRising).

There were 16 players not drafted on the list, including a couple of guys that will end up being All-Americans:

Jaden Akins, Michigan State
Nate Bittle, Oregon
Ja'Kobi Gillespie, Maryland
Ian Jackson, North Carolina
Curtis Jones, Iowa State
RJ Luis, St. John's
Nick Martinelli, Northwestern
Jamal Mashburn Jr., Temple
Trent McLaughlin, Northern Arizona
Jacksen Moni, North Dakota State
Asa Newell, Georgia
Otega Oweh, Kentucky
Zhuric Phelps, Texas A&M
Javon Small, West Virginia
John Tonje, Wisconsin
Danny Wolf, Michigan

I know Zeigler was drafted because I was trying to draft him... maybe in round 5.

I'm sure DukeDevilz probably has the full history but here are the top individual scorers the last 4 years:

1) @GE Nole 2024 - 97.7
2) @dukedevilz 2022 - 91.3
3) @IUfanBorden 2024 - 89.6
4) @dukedevilz 2023 - 84.9
5) @dukedevilz 2024 - 85.5

DD with 3 of the top 5 scores in the last 4 years. Impressive!

Thanks! I've had some solid teams in recent memory. I feel like I've had decent forecasts on most of my selected players. This year, however, I'll probably be middle of the pack. No All-Americans, and I might even struggle to get an HM All-American. That's the beauty of the contest, though. It'd be boring if it were super predictable and formulaic.

Updating the stats is going to be hard for me to do (turnover at work is creating a larger workload). Problem is, you basically have to do it in one sitting. If you wait, then the stats are no longer up to date. I don't have the time right now to carve out 2+ hours to do this in one sitting.

The most reasonable thing I can do is simply not enforce the cuts this year. I'll simply score the 9 highest rated players on your team.

The other option is to tell people to do their own homework if they want to make educated cuts. For most, it's going to be trying to pick 3 guys out of 5 to cut and they can easily see winshares by just clicking on this link and searching for their players:

@dukedevilz didn't do his homework so now I'm supposed to do it for him? Yea, no thanks on that.

Hey @dukedevilz, I don't know if it will happen, but has anyone in this ever had 3 first team AA's on their roster?

I know there's been at least 5 other teams that drafted 3+ All-Americans. But, I'm not sure if any had 3 on the 1st Team. I want to say no. Not on my computer now, but I'll check tonight or tomorrow. That would be an awfully impressive feat.

With my last pick, I select Trey Kaufman-Renn, Purdue. Purdue is the most post centric program in the country over the last decade and I expect TKR to be the beneficiary of that continued effort. He'll average 15 and 8 and likely end up 2nd team All Big Ten IMO.

@IUfanBorden and @FaithPlusOne are both on the clock.
Looks like I underestimated my dude!

Of the power conferences, the Big Ten is easily the most challenging one to predict who the 1st Teamers will be. No Big Ten guys in the top 10; but, there were 17 in the top 100. And I'd say Myles Rice has a better shot than several of these guys taken. Only 15 spots on the All-Big Ten teams. So, a few of these players will miss out completely.

Following up. The top 100...

11. Oumar Ballo, Indiana - HM
16. Braden Smith, Purdue - POY
20. Great Osobor, Washington - HM
23. Ace Baldwin, Penn State - DPOY
26. Mackenzie Mgbako, Indiana - Nothing
28. Jackson Shelstad, Oregon - HM
33. Dylan Harper, Rutgers - 3rd team
46. Malik Reneau, Indiana - HM
47. Vlad Goldin, Michigan - 1st team
48. Bruce Thornton, Ohio State - 2nd team
56. Payton Sandfort, Iowa - HM
59. Ace Bailey, Rutgers - 3rd team
63. Dawson Garcia, Minnesota - 2nd team
86. Kasparas Jakucionis, Illinois - 3rd team
89. Steven Crowl, Wisconsin - Nothing
90. Brooks Barnhizer, Northwestern - HM
92. Sebastian Mack, UCLA - Nothing

Only one of the top 6 guys in that top 100 made it onto one of the 3 all conference teams.

Other guys I mentioned....

Kylan Boswell - nothing
Julian Reese - HM
Meechie Johnson - HM (hurt)
Fletcher Loyer - HM
Ben Humrichous - nothing
TJ Bamba - defensive team
Jaden Akins - defensive team
Roddy Gayle - nothing
Jeremy Fears - nothing
Trey Kaufmann-Renn - 1st team
Owen Freeman - Nothing (hurt)
Ja'Kobi Gillespie - 3rd team
Derik Queen - 1st team
Kobe Johnson- defensive team
Dylan Andrews - nothing

So you and I listed 32 guys and we still missed two 1st team guys (Brice Williams and John Tonje), two 2nd team guys (Danny Wolf and Nick Martinelli) and three 3rd team guys (Nate Bittle, Jase Richardson and Tyler Bilodeau). So essentially half of the honorees weren't in the top 32 identified.

18 team leagues make this so much harder than it used to be. Throw in the transfer portal and it's a crapshoot.
