8 UNC @ 1 Duke game thread

Don’t they have to win player of the year or something? Like there are rules, or am I just making that up.
North Carolina requires that players must be recognized for excellence for their performance during the regular season, in post-season play, or in the Olympics. Specifically, a player's jersey qualifies for honoring if he receives one or more of the following five awards: first- or second-team All-America on one of the major All-American teams that qualify a player for a consensus All-American designation, an ACC Player of the Year, the Most Valuable Player of a National Championship-winning team (as voted by coaches and teammates), the NCAA Basketball Tournament Most Outstanding Player of a Final Four team, or a gold medal in basketball at the Olympics.[3]

Additionally, a player can also achieve the even greater honor of having his jersey (along with his uniform number) permanently retired by the University of North Carolina. To attain jersey retirement, a Tar Heel must win one or more of the following six national player of the year awards: Associated Press, National Association of Basketball Coaches, Sporting News, John R. Wooden Award, Oscar Robertson Trophy, or the Naismith College Player of the Year. The (now defunct) Helms Foundation College Basketball Player of the Year award formerly served as a seventh option. The most recent player to merit bestowal of this honor is Tyler Hansbrough, who won all six of the national player of the year awards in his 2007–08 season.

In Rupp? Yup. That UK team still had T. Jones and Gilchrist, so yes, UK wins that game, especially in Rupp.
Ok.....You are right. I keep forgetting UK is immune to the normalcy's of CBB. In no way shape or form is UK impacted by the sudden loss to their stud, via injury, 30 seconds into the game. Just would have rolled right along. Wouldn't have missed one of the most transcendent players CBB has seen in the past 50 years. Business as usual.

Sheesh....

Looks like Gonzaga will end the regular season ranked #1

White is Duke's best player tonight yikes

I have never been one to run and hide after a loss. All the regulars know this. But after this, I want to run and hide.

There are people that hide which is pathetic really. They make excuses a day before the game and if their team wins they’ll show back up that day or the next but if they lose they won’t show up for a few days (as we’ve seen) hoping everything has died down. You have no reason to hide, your best player went down. Can’t say for sure but if Zion plays this game is a lot different IMO.

I thought it was where the ball is, no?
. Its where the player is. Ball is consider in the BC until it either A, touches a player, or B) touched the floor. So if you jump from your b/c, catch the ball, and land in Dukes b/c, its over and back. Your last legal position was in your b/c.

Wow, you seem upset. Why?

I just think UK was that much better than Louisville and I will say this, it's February, not December. You can't allow your team to jack this many threes when you have Tre Jones, Cam and RJ.

I mean I'm stunned at how many threes Duke has bricked in this game. Every bricked has ended up being the first pass in UNC's fast break.

How K has continued to watch his team jack bricks is beyond me.

Duke is 7-37 from 3 point range. THAT is why they are losing.
37 threes is way too many when you're not hitting.

I don't care who got injured, you have to get the ball inside and not settle for threes.

I'm not upset....Its just typical UK talk. You don't think that team would have been impacted by losing Anthony Davis, 30 seconds into a game. That's just silly. You think UK was much better....Yet is was a 3-point game at halftime----With Davis. You think UK is plus 3, w/o him? I mean UK was good enough tht they wouldn't have missed AD's 19 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocked shots?

Dude......

We will just agree to disagree.

Inside to............................................................................

Every team has a bunch of those. A rematch in 2012 would have been something though.

You guys were great. I don't know that UNC would have beaten them and would never say that. I just think they would have had the best shot.

Looks like a horrible finish to the year. Williamson's injury is being listed as a knee injury. Which is what it looked like. Congrats to unc for blowing Duke out in their own house. And congrats to everyone who wanted to see Duke not win a championship this year.

Hope for a sprain, amigo. And I hope we get to see the game at full strength on 3/9, even tho this gift will be tough to beat (cause playing you without Zion was a gift, no doubt).
