Oscar Tshiebwe

One guy I would have considered taking in the latter part of the draft: Pittsburgh's Dior Johnson. Super talented guard, but he just can't seem to help himself. He was enrolled at 10 different high schools. And now, it seems very likely he won't play a single minute this season.

"Highly touted Pitt freshman basketball player Dior Johnson is facing numerous charges for an incident that took place on the evening of Sept. 5 and the morning of Sept. 6, 2022, in the 3400 block of Forbes Avenue, according to a criminal complaint obtained by the Post-Gazette.

Johnson was arrested Friday, according to an updated version of the police report.

The complaint states that Johnson, 18, is facing charges of aggravated assault, strangulation, unlawful restraint, simple assault and false imprisonment."

He's one of those guys who 10 years from now there will be an article about his fall from grace and how now he's either dead, homeless or in jail.

Sounds about right. Which is sad because he's freaking 18 years old and few people are going to want to take a chance on him now.

Dang. This is tough. My top 6 guys are all off the board. And now I'm deliberating between a very experienced and proven player and two freshmen...

A couple of these freshmen look very, very intriguing. I just can't go against the Swiss Army Knife...

Jaime Jaquez, UCLA

1. Oscar Tshiebwe, Kentucky
2. Armando Bacot, North Carolina
3. Drew Timme, Gonzaga
4. Trayce Jackson-Davis, Indiana
5. Hunter Dickinson, Michigan
6. Marcus Sasser, Houston
7. Jaime Jaquez, UCLA

I think there is a bit of a drop off after 5 or 6. The obvious ones are pretty much off the board.

First round is a round to take a sure fire thing, you can take chances later. Jaquez has the highest chance out of anyone left to be an AA IMO.

Adama Sanogo, UConn.

Not super happy that all my top picks are gone, but I think he could continue to blow up this year.

@duckboy33 you’re on the clock.

For sure. Jaquez was 1st Team All-Conference last year, so that's a really solid floor. And with Juzang and Bernard out of the picture, his scoring production could easily increase to 16-17 ppg.

But, Nick Smith at #10 ain't bad. Feel like he's the top-rated freshmen. Good athlete and shooter. Could do some big things this year.

Nervous to take freshman, but I know he’d be gone by my next pick, and they are other guys I think I can still snag at 15 that I want. But it feels like the top rated freshman for the past few years have at minimum been like First Team All Conference, with a ceiling to go higher. Just have to hope he doesn’t completely bust.

Not particularly excited about any of my options - some sleepers seem more exciting than the first round crop this year.

I’ll do Jalen Wilson. @GE Nole you are up

This feels like a big reach, but there are so many picks between this pick and my next, and I really feel this is a safe all-conference bet and should be on a solid team picking up solid win shares.

Isaiah Wong. @MGC_07 you are up

Lot of solid choices, but I’m going Zach Edey. Dude was an HM AA playing under 20 a game. I think he could put up just stupid numbers this year.

If I didn’t pick Wong I would’ve gone Edey - could easily be the steal of the draft

I’m nervous Purdue may not be good enough or Purdue plays a lot of small ball to be better defensively.

But Edey was pretty unstoppable, and with another offseason of conditioning and work, I think he’s absolutely got an All American shot. His biggest competition for minutes is gone too.

Just a terrible pick. I can't imagine why anyone would pick him so early.

Surprised he lasted this long. I thought for sure GE Nole would have taken him with one of his two picks.
