*Official* 2017-2018 B1G In-Season Thread

IU has taken advatange of a terrible B1G and I am fine with that just trying to make the NIT but to be a contender it’s rough.

Who is Purdue’s best win? A just okay Arizona? Or at a just okay Michigan team?
Outstanding troll job. To answer your question... those are both better than any other MSU win other than today (which was at home). And both those Purdue wins were on the road or neutral. And certainly better than any IU win. IU does have those quality losses against Fort Wayne and ISU though. Purdue lost two games this week (it hurts) to the top of the league by 4 points total in shots made in the last 3 seconds in both (4 losses by a total of 11 points all year). Not bad. Villanova and Virginia lost to unranked teams at home this week.

Michigan is a better win than UNC?

This explains a lot thanks Pig, so Purdue doesn’t have a great win.

If MSU's great win is against a team without a great win, does MSU have a great win?

Life is full of tough questions.

And IU lost to MSU and Purdue by a total of 10 points. A play here and there, and this Indiana team, with no shooters, no true PG, no depth, no center and a walk-on who is/was starting, could be 9-5. But a loss is still a loss. I like where IU basketball is headed.

BTW.......Good game today. Tough loss. What is crazy is you guys could go 16-2(probably will) and yet be the 3-seed. Crazy.

Purdue has the best resume in the conference by a country mile.

KenPom Wins
#20 by 15 on a neutral court
#24 by 26 on a neutral court
#29 twice both home and away
#36 at home by 9

Those are 5 wins over tournament teams alone and I stopped at KenPoms top 40. Purdue has less losses total than they have wins over tournament teams which is pretty extraordinary.

They have a #1 seed resume, especially this year when everyone keeps losing, but may end up a 2 seed or a 1 seed.

Michigan State needed yesterdays win. It was only their 2nd win over a tournament team. It boosts their resume substantially, even with the win coming at home. They will almost assuredly need another win over Purdue or a win over Ohio State in the conf tourney to have a shot at the 1 seed imo.

Ohio State just fired the winningest coach in their history after one bad season and the only reason it was bad, was because their best player was out. He won 20+ in every season he was there and 10+ B10 games for 12 straight seasons before last year.

Firing Mcaffery is probably the right thing to do
but but when I posted that, I was told he had to give up coaching because of Health issues. so which is it.
he was fired because of one bad season or did he give up coaching because of health issues.

Iowa fans still have this fantasy where the landscape is still the same as the 1980s.

Back then Iowa was a player in the state of Michigan where there was still talent leftover after M/MSU got their pieces. That is no longer the case. The state of Michigan is a shell of itself in producing hoop talent.

Iowa was also a player in Illinois back then. Now all of the blue bloods get every good player in Illinois. The Illini get the second level group (which isnt bad) and then the rest is like the state of Michigan.

So where does Iowa go to get kids? Who wants to go play in Iowa? No major city nearby. Not exactly a swag athletic program. Doesnt have the pageantry of tumbleweed spots like Kansas or Kentucky.

Fran has done decent for what they have to offer.
this is very true and the 11 years before he took over didn't help

Fran is changing the program back to what it was like under Lute and Davis
getting Garza the DC Gatorade POY who chose Iowa over teams like these
Louiville
Georgetown
plus he had over 20 offers.
getting Nunge out of Indiana who was the runnerup in the voting for Indiana Mr. BB and was a two time 1st team all Stater.
the talent in Iowa is improving and Fran is keeping them home.
Cook turned down Kansas to play for Fran.

It’s almost a stretch to say Coach Matta was fired. I guess technically he was. But it was a mutual decision with AD Gene Smith, and Matta had a lot of input bringing Coach Holtmann here. Coach Matta has a dibilitating back condition. Everyone knows this. He can hardly sit or stand a full game. He was not able to get out and recruit the last few years. It affects every part of his family life and really hindered his ability to be a coach. That’s the reason he’s gone. If he was healthy, I have no doubt he’d still be coaching at OSU.

Iowa is no OSU, can't just fire a coach for one bad season and expect things to turn out like they did for you all. Heck we could end up with someone like Gard whom will slowly deflate Wisconsin basketball from top4 to nothing.

Iowa basketball already is nothing. Can’t get more deflated than that. Nice dig though.

Yesterday's loss is going to sting even more when I find out 3 years from now one of MSUs players assaulted some girls and Izzo covered it up to keep him eligible.

And look, since you want to call it garbage lets just be honest here. Its an absolute disgrace and slap in the face of the survivors that

1 - Izzo hasnt resigned yet

2 - That not only hasnt he resigned, he has turned this around and framed it in a way that makes him look like some sort of victim

3 - After women have suffered from his players who not only didnt get kicked off the team, but Appling didnt even miss a game due to suspension or be reprimanded seemingly at all. To say the survivors will rally around his team is a slap in the face.

The only garbage at this point, is that people still support MSU athletics with the same men in charge.

You lashing out because your team lost is entertaining. Please do some actual research and reading on the issue, stop being an ESPN muppet. I have no interest in discussing this with you because you've shown from the beginning that your mind was made up and pitchfork was out the second OTL released their story.

That is not what I am saying.

Fran is probably doing the best he can given the deck of cards in his hands.

Iowa is not going back to what it was under Lute or Davis. It will continue to look similar to the Alford era as time rolls on.

What I find bizarre about Izzo's thoughts is how he believes his team winning basketball games will help comfort the Nassar survivors.

Let's just assume for a second that his previous players are purely innocent (unlikely, but assume for argument sake)

Why in the world would a group of women who are disgusting with Michigan State on how they handled countless warnings actually give a f*ck on the performance of the basketball team? My guess is most of these female MSU alum despise the university at this point and view the school as somewhat of a stain on their life.

Yet Tom Izzo believes this will be some sort of healing? He is part of the healing process? That is f*cked up and tone deaf especially from an individual who publicly supported a university figure (Simon) the survivors despised all the way to her resignation.

Yup, the head coach of the basketball team is responsible. Just stop. Your own fan base recognizes you as a troll

We're becoming an increasingly ivory tower society. The gymnastics deal was disgusting and I haven't seen any Sparty fan try defending them on the handling of that. To expect Izzo to publicly blast his boss is unreasonable. The two specific incidents regarding MSU hoops haven't produced anything tangible as to Izzo doing anything wrong. Anything outside of that is assuming facts not yet available.

No one is saying those things are good? What are you talking about? I’m sorry Purdue lost (no I’m not) but calm down man.
