Mark Cuban Asks Calipari to Renew Kentucky/Indiana Series

You go on some pretty good tangents for someone who isn't pissy and doesn't care.
Naah. Just giving facts, bro. Talk about tangemts...I mention a negative about UK, and you dudes flock like geese heading south..

Indiana hasn't made the Elite Eight since 2002 and have only made the entire tournament 8 times since then RollLaugh what are we even discussing? There's 10 - 15 schools easily better for our schedule than IU.
Sure

A lot of UK fans say IU isn't a big game, but it's our 2nd biggest rivalry in reality with great tradition. One of best rivalries in country. Kentucky did better in March before canceling the traditional OOC rivalries.

It's better for recruiting. It's better for fans. Better for Rupp. Better for Kentucky. And arguably it's better for wins and losses in the long run because it challenges them earlier in the season. Calipari argues he needs neutral site games to help in March, but that hasn't been true. 2010, 2011 and 2012 turned out pretty damn good. Certainly better than 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 (which would've likely been a Sweet 16 exit).
When IU starts challenging the Big Ten again and is ranked consistently, then I will agree with you. Granted I use to love the IU/UK games.

It's my favorite rivalry in all of college sports.

Two states that live and die for basketball.

Nothing better.
And the Indiana messed it up by dictating terms.

Having had a career in negotiating contracts, one side never dictates terms successfully. It must be seen as a win/win on both sides. Win/lose only happens in war.

The game is a total win/win for both.

It's IU and UK.

It's a recruiting tool.

This game is like the Rose Bowl of college basketball.

I know UL is big to UK. And Purdue is big to IU. But those schools will never be Indiana and Kentucky.

Ever

There are fans of a certain age who have never seen Indiana have real tournament success. I’m 53 and wouldn’t mind seeing the rivalry started back up, but it’s mostly dudes my age that want to see it. There’s a real reason, at least in Cal’s mind, that this game isn’t ever going to be played at AH and being scared of Indiana ain’t it.

You are the most dominate program right now. Play them wherever they want.

You will do fine

IMO college sports should be about home & home games.Nothing better than The excitement of going into someone’s house for a big game.
Could you imagine Michigan & Ohio St playing their football game in Atlanta or some neutral site? It takes away from the excitement of it.
The Carolina- UK games were so much better in the home & home years vs the neutral site games in the CBS Classic.
Two home & home series that I would LOVE to see are UNC- Kansas & UK-Duke. The atmosphere would be crazy for those two series.

Indy, with the half red and half blue was awesome.

I do like the home and home idea though.

But these arent conference foes. It should be netural site. Like Indy.

Both fan bases can get their share of the tickets.

I remember the the Indy days of the UK- IU series. I agree that it was a great game.
I personally still like home & home games better.
Imagine the excitement of Carolina playing @ Kansas or UK playing @ Duke.... I’m sure the many UK fans on here would tell you how crazy Rupp would be if Duke played @ UK one year.

Agreed. But not sure any combo of those fanbases could sell near the tickets of an IU vs UK game.

One thing that helps the UK- IU game is that they’re border states. UK fans travel like no other & didn’t mind the short drive to Indy.
Be hard to find a fair neutral site for games like UK- Duke or UNC- Kansas.

It was a game that UK fans marked on their calendars for sure. It was a big game, but during the 90's and 10's Kentucky dominated it and the luster was gone. CBS quit fighting for it on their network and more often it was on ESPN.

However, I personally don't want UK to play IU again in the regular season because of the antics pulled in 2011 & 2012 by Indiana administration. They pissed off a lot of Kentucky fans. Maybe the UK faithful should not have reacted that way but at the least I did. Crean was a total turdhead.

Kentucky has not missed playing Indiana the last 8 seasons and have had no problems lining up all the good games they want and need to play. The Indiana fans say they can schedule anyone they choose, except Kentucky, so both seem to be happy, so why do the Indiana faithful campaign for the UK matchup all the time?

On the series with Louisville: Joe B. Hall, coach at the time and the UK AD at the time did not want to play UL, but the State of Kentucky forced UK to play UL. It has now become a big game, but Kentucky has won something like 11 out of the last 12 games. At the least CBS is still interested in it as UL continues to be ranked high.

All the time that UK was playing IU I never felt that it really helped UK in getting a better seed in the NCAA. In fact, many times playing IU may have actually hurt them. So I am happy that the series is dead and I have no interest in it being renewed.

Oh I don’t mind if the game is played. I also don’t mind if it isn’t. I’m being honest when I say I never even think of IU. I remember great games as a kid when Knight was there but when I think of the Big 10 these days I dont get to IU til way down the list. But my point is, IU and it’s fans are acting like a jilted girlfriend when their boyfriend has moved on and won’t talk to them anymore. There isn’t a whole lot of talk for UK fans wanting this game.

This attitude cracks me up.
IU is a blue blood & border rival of Kentucky.
There’s a damn Ky vs Indiana all star game in high school that is a great event.
Only an idiot would think that IU & UK shouldn’t play every year.

Gotta agree

What IU fans are talking about this game? Until this recent thing with Cuban, I haven't seen one mention from any IU fan, pertaining to the series. I like you Rip, but this is what gives UK fans a bad rep....You act as if UK is above everyone. But whats weird, is you also act like the prettiest girl in school, who needs to be told she's the prettiest girl(in school).
Indiana fans haven't talked about renewing the series. Only time I see it spoken about is when the media brings it up---Or in this instance,a former alum who happens to be a billionaire....

But look, we get it...Kentucky was severely mistreated in Bloomington. But c;mon, man...IU released the last of the hostages a few years back. No one was injured....Let it go.

Do you not think we're the all time prettiest girl in school?

Someone posted a link to the IU home board with a thread about it. Fred Glass talked about it. Archie Miller talked about it last fall. I don’t really care one way or another but the impression I’ve gotten is that IU wants the game or thinks they deserve the game. And I never once implied UK was better than anybody else. You inferred that. From my point of view I rarely see anyone from the UK side mention anything about it. It’s that simple for me. UK and their fans seemed to have moved on.

Only an idiot would think that IU & UK shouldn’t play every year.

Only an idiot from a different fan base would try and tell another fan base who they should play. And is IU really a blue blood anymore? Not trolling, would like a legitimate answer as to why you feel that way. It’s certainly not tourney success the last 20 years or so. Maybe they are but I view them differently now than I did 30-35 years ago. Same for UCLA.

As a UK fan. I can see both sides. I don't care if if we play or not, although there is a deep rooted rivalry there.

I said before the venom would outweigh every rivalry out there at the moment. Only one I can think of that would match it is Missouri and KU. That's the real rivalry ppl should be talking about.

I still think IU is a blue blood, the stats are there and the passion is there. There's no passion from UCLA fanbase.

UL and UK should be better, but they've not been very good and the UL fans seemed to be beat down. "it's their superbowl".I almost wish they'd win every now and again, just to boost their spirits about the game. I'd give up an L, just to see the spunk in their eye again.
