Hi all,

Looking to see if there is interest in getting a College Basketball Draft started again. Would love to have 10-16 posters this year. Here is the thread from last year, for reference.

Let me know ITT if you have any interests. I'm tagging the posters from last year, as well as some others that I think might be interested. But certainly all are welcome.

@BigBlueFanGA @bignish @ThePhog08 @Danger 35 Zone @imajericho @IrishInOntario @LetsGoDuke301 @Mgkcbb @WojoRising @schoonerwest @hailtoyourvictor @WeAreDePaul @GE Nole @lurkeraspect84 @duckboy33

Absolutely! Hopefully we'll have a full roster of posters before the end of the week.. and maybe we can begin drafting next week.

Last year, I used win shares & postseason accolades to get a composite score. I'm open to refining the scoring system, though, if anyone wants to input. Here are the final results from last season:

edit: Here's how I had the initial scoring system for the postseason awards. But we can certainly revise these numbers, and include additional awards, if there is enough support.

10 points- National Player of the Year (AP for All-American Teams)
9 points- 1st Team All-American
8 points- 2nd Team All-American
7 points- 3rd Team All-American; NABC Defensive POY
6 points- Honorable Mention All-American
5 points- Conference Player of the Year
4 points- 1st Team All-Conference; Conference Defensive POY
3 points- 2nd Team All-Conference
2 points- 3rd Team All-Conference; All-Conference Defense
1 point- Honorable Mention All-Conference

Not interested but I am willing to share a little advice. If you want to win, make sure you draft:

If putting money into this league interests people, I suppose we could go that route. I don't know how the whole setup would work, however.

I've organized money for March Madness in the past. I just have people PayPal me the money and keep it until the tournament is over. We do the same thing with @Da_Bull for fantasy football. These people trust us with money. I'm Jewish and he's a degenerate gambler so you should be fine.

I’ll join. Is every possible college player available, or just ones from the P7 (P5, plus Big East and Mountain West) and Gonzaga?

Yep. Every possible player is available. I had Mike Daum (South Dakota State) and John Konchar (Fort Wayne) on my team last year, for example.

Bringing postseason accolades into the equation makes it a little more challenging for mid-major players to be rewarded, as they're rarely going to make an All-American team (Jock Landale was a nice exception last year). But if they're a sure-fire 1st Team All-Conference player, they're probably worth a pick or two in the middle-late rounds.

Okay, we're up to 8 owners now. Hoping to get at least 10... I might be able to recruit a few from some other boards if need be.

Edit: I find myself frequently revising along the way (often switching the rankings of players). Just noticed that I put Grant Williams at #16 and #19, which means I probably left off a very significant player... wonder who that was.

9 owners now... probably wait til the end of the week to see if there is any more interest. And then we can begin drafting next week.

The draft, of course, will be a snake draft. Last year, we had 8 rounds. But I'm kind of interested in expanding it to 10 rounds. Thoughts?

I’m assuming there’s no switching up “starters and bench players” on a weekly basis like regular fantasy, right? You just draft a guy and hold them for the whole year?

If that’s the case, I think 8 rounds makes more sense. More realistic of a real team.

Yeah, everybody accounts for the total points. So essentially everyone is a starter... 8 rounds might be the way to go, as I think some people start to get draft fatigue. Anyone else want to weigh in on this?

Also, last year I should note that nobody seemed to want any replacement players - in case of a suspension (Josh Okogie) or a season-ending injury (Michael Porter)... But I'm also open to have replacements, where you could prorate the points.

Personally, I’d say suspensions and injuries are part of the game. But I’m open to other thoughts.

Yep. You draft a player who gets suspended or Hurt then you're SOL.

EDIT: The only way replacements players would work for me is if you went 10 rounds. You designate who your top 8 are by a certain date before the season in the thread so those top 8 are locked in. Your 2 alternates are only available should one of your 8 miss more than 50% of the regular season due to injuries, suspension, or eligibility.

That seems fairly sensible. I like it.

I like this idea as well. I'm sure I'll be the guy on here who has a reserve player doing well and then I spend the whole season openly cheering for one of my bums to get hurt or get caught #metoo'ing somebody.

Need one more owner. Any takers? Hoping to start drafting early next week.

Yeah, a big thanks to OP for organizing this. Thank God there aren’t more people like me or we’d have a lot less fun things

Hate to jump out man but I’m not gonna have time to do it. Got a lot going on with my mowing business right now and between that and my dispatching job I’m not gonna have the time. Sorry man!

Looking at last year's thread how about we do away with the alphabetical draft order and have a random order? Or do reverse alphabetical order since you did alphabetical order.

I'm only saying this because I feel Wojorising got screwed last year and I don't want to see that happen again. Has nothing to do with my name also starting with a W if that's what you're thinking...

I was planning on doing reverse alphabetical order this season, yes.

With Scotty dropping out, we're down to 8 owners now. I'm going to try and recruit on a few boards.

I’ve finished Top 3 every season though

Okay, looks like we're up to 10 owners now. Before we start the actual draft, I just want to check in with everyone and see if there are any lingering questions... I'm going to start a new thread for the draft so we don't have to sort through the first 40 messages on here.

Last year, we sped the draft up by including a 24-hour clock. Once 24 hours has expired, the person drafting behind you is allowed to make their desired selection. I would like to limit it to only one skip for the first 24 hours. After 48 hours, I'm okay with 7-10 owners making their picks (or however many it takes) skipping ahead of the stalled pick.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, we're going to have 10 rounds, but we'll need owners to lock in on an 8-man rotation before the start of the season. The last two rounds of the draft allow for an insurance in case of an injury or suspension to one of your core 8 players.

Last year the draft order was alphabetical order, so we'll go in reverse order this time. It will be a snake draft, so it will look like this:

Round 1 (and every odd round):
1. @WojoRising
2. @WeAreDePaul
3. @ThroughBlue
4. @sdsufan10
5. @Mgkcbb
6. @jwill133
7. @jhmossy
8. @GE Nole
9. dukedevilz
10. @Big_C_KU

Round 2 (and every even round):
11. Big_C_KU
12. dukedevilz
13. GE Nole
14. jhmossy
15. jwill133
16. Mgkcbb
17. sdsufan10
18. ThroughBlue
19. WeAreDePaul
20. WojoRising

Wojo did pretty well for himself in the draft, actually. He had the last pick in the first round, where he selected Jalen Brunson, who turned out to be the MVP according the scoring system. And he got Jevon Carter with the 1st pick in the 2nd round. It's really hard to project how good these kids will be. Off the top of my head, I can name at least 3 All-Americans that weren't selected in our draft last year - Trae Young, Keita Bates-Diop, and Luke Maye.
