5th Annual College Basketball Draft

DaVante Apostrophe Jones

@GE Nole

For the record, I don't think he's likely a 3rd team/HM guy with a 2nd team upside, but you know.

Ima go full on hawkit and say Someone should do themselves a favor a take Jalyn Withers from Louisville.

He didnt play last season pregnant like garza did when hawkit tried to tell us all to draft him, but i expect him to really emerge this year as he gets to go back to the PF where he can play more faceup on O and not have to bang with the other teams big all game. Even if malik williams gets hurt again, we actually have some depth at the 5 this year so i doubt he would be asked to slide to the 5 like last year.

I can see him playing some 5 if we go small ball with williamson/cross/withers frontcourt, but i dont expect withers to play the 5 much, which will benefit him greatly imo.

Were you going to take him this round? Surprised you didn't take him earlier. Decent value for this round, IMO.
Drafting a transfer from a lower level is always risky, and UM already has Dickinson, Houstan, Eli Brooks, Moussa Diabete, Brandon Johns, Kobe Bufkin, etc.

There’s a very legitimate shot he’s not even a top 3 scorer for UM.

This is true. I tend to think he'll be the #3 guy for UM. But yes, transferring up typically has a significant impact on a player's numbers. Carlik Jones is more the exception than the rule.

I have both DeVante' Jones and Tyson Walker in my top 150 somewhere, FWIW.

This very well could be this team's #4 guy - which would most likely make it a wasted pick. But, the upside might be worth the gamble...

Jalen Wilson, Kansas

@WeAreDePaul is up.

We’ve hit a wall.

Yep. Completley miscalculated when I thought you'd be drafting. Looks like you could have taken the weekend off without even considering the draft.

I'll send out another list tomorrow. Expand the list and break it down by conference perhaps.

Someone’s gotta pick Edey

Someone’s gotta pick Edey

If I knew Edey could get 25 minutes a night, I would have taken him myself by at least round 4.

Problem is, how does Edey get sufficient minutes with Trevion Williams? Not sure those two could share the court for much longer than 5 minutes. Are there talks of Painter playing those two together?

Not more than your previously mentioned 5 min tops

Edey had 35 and 14 in team scrimmage. 16 for 18 lol … I’m guess he plays like 22 minutes a night … they might play a little together

I'll go with Osun Osunniyi from St. Bonaventure. I know Kyle Lofton is supposed to be their alpha but OO is a near nightly double double and the likely A10 DPOY. I think he could take the POY award from his teammate. Plus I think this is a top 20 team so the win shares should be high.

Time for @FaithPlusOne x2.

Both of these are probably risky picks but we’re in hundreds now so I’m just going to go with it:
- Boogie Ellis, USC
- Walker Kessler, Auburn

I think USC could still be pretty good and that would likely be driven by both Ellis and older Mobley. If they are, I think he has all conference potential.

I was pretty high on Kessler as a second year player before he transferred and still am. Whenever he got good minutes he put up really strong numbers. My only concerns are their other front court player will get a lot of shots and Auburn likes to launch a ton of 3s. But he’s a good offensive rebounder and could blow up this year (or unfortunately for me give me like 8 points and 6 rebounds. I guess we’ll find out).

I am concerned that I don’t have small conference stat monsters outside of Abmas, but I just didn’t want to pass on either of these two this late.

@boilerzz back to you.

Alright, I might as well do it. Not sure it's wise but it's the 110th pick and this guy might be one of the 50 best players in college basketball. I just don't know if he'll get enough minutes to make the all conference lists, let alone AA or otherwise. God forbid Trevion Williams gets hurt and this guy might be 1st team All Big Ten and HM AA tho. He really is that good.

Zach Edey, Purdue

@duckboy33 is on the clock.

1st team All Big Ten eh? Considering Ivey is a lock (per the Big Ten thread) that would be interesting.

I don't consider Ivey a lock. I think Purdue is a near lock to have one of the 5 but it could just as easily be Trevion. Getting 2 on the 1st team is possible but likely worse than a 50/50 proposition.
