5th Annual College Basketball Draft

Both of these are probably risky picks but we’re in hundreds now so I’m just going to go with it:
- Boogie Ellis, USC
- Walker Kessler, Auburn

I think USC could still be pretty good and that would likely be driven by both Ellis and older Mobley. If they are, I think he has all conference potential.

I was pretty high on Kessler as a second year player before he transferred and still am. Whenever he got good minutes he put up really strong numbers. My only concerns are their other front court player will get a lot of shots and Auburn likes to launch a ton of 3s. But he’s a good offensive rebounder and could blow up this year (or unfortunately for me give me like 8 points and 6 rebounds. I guess we’ll find out).

I am concerned that I don’t have small conference stat monsters outside of Abmas, but I just didn’t want to pass on either of these two this late.

@boilerzz back to you.

Surprised Kessler lasted that long, tbh. Having taking Jabari Smith, I couldn't justify another Auburn big man. But, Kessler's ceiling is really high.

I'm really antsy to get this pick in. I have this feeling that I know who is going to draft my guy in these next few picks though.

^Okay, so that list includes everyone that's been included in any top 100 list. And I included quite a few extra names in there, as well.

To be fair, I am also considering several players that aren't on this list. But, I figured this is sufficient, seeing how I've at least provided the top 100 guys.

Yeah, being a near bookend pick is tough. That's the other reason I took Edey when I did. I didn't figure he'd still be there in 22 picks.e'd still be there in 22 picks.

The more the other Purdue guys chimed in, the more I was becoming interested. Edey's efficiency numbers are off the charts, clearly. Would be an easy draft choice if the minutes are there. My interest was piquing a bit when I heard 22 minutes.

You should have taken him in Round 9. I'm strongly considering taking the guy you're after.

The preseason AP 1st team AA list is out.

So, for those taking stock, that is:

Drew Timme (@JimboBBN pick 1)
Kofi Cockburn (@MGC_07 pick 4)
Johnnie Juzang (@Jaycg15 pick 5)
Collin Gillespie (@dukedevilz pick 8)
Trayce Jackson-Davis (@WeAreDePaul pick 9)

With so many guys returning, I understand why the freshman weren't voted to 1st Team. But, I'd be surprised if Paolo and Chet are both missing from the actual 1st Team.

I actually got TJD at pick #8, while WeAreDePaul took Gillespie at #9.

Oops. Crossed myself up on that one. Gillespie is the guy I was hoping might fall to 11. He got close but that damn @WeAreDePaul is just too damn smart.

And I agree on the freshmen. I'd guess TJD is the odd man out if we are dropping a freshman in.

I'm a little surprised Kessler slid as far as he did. I would have thought he would have went higher. I think he'll be a big part of Pearls offense.

Also, it's great you get to keep rooting for him, not like you wouldn't but I know how ppl think once a player transfers, ppl no longer care.

I was a little bit surprised too. He didn’t get a lot of preseason love from writers, so that might have had something to do with it. Who knows, they could be proven right. But he showed flashes last year and I think could do well in an expanded role.

Still bummed he left but seemed like a good guy. Hope he has success (except for any game he plays against UNC).

Joey Buckets had at least one three pointer and two assists in the Villanova scrimmage. All-Conference is the floor, no doubt.
I don’t think Villanova scored once. Classic Duke defense this year.

On a serious note, I hadn’t seen this, thanks for posting. I’m really high on Moore this season, obviously it’s a highlight video, but this certainly didn’t hurt those expectations.

Hoping he'll finally have that breakout season. He certainly has the ability to make one of the all-conference teams.

I really feel like this Duke team is going to be significantly improved. We'll need Wendell Moore if we're going to make a deep run in March.

AJ Green, UNI.

You motherfvcker.

I had this ready to go

A.J. Green, Northern Iowa

Northern Iowa was 25-6 the last time Green played a full season, but it went 10-15 last season when Green was knocked out for the season after a left hip injury that led to surgery. He then had surgery on his right hip two months later. That is concerning, but hopefully the player who averaged 19.7 points per game in 2019-20 will return to his old self, because that dude was so much fun to watch play basketball.

Even if Green’s athleticism takes a hit, he’s so skilled and creative in how he gets his buckets that he could be like the old dude at the Y who amazes the young pups by his production. He needs little space to get off his high-release jumper, and then he’s got an assortment of finishes in the paint — including scoop shots with either hand. Green’s teammates told the local paper that he’s moving and jumping even better than before. If that’s the case, then he should get right back to dominating the Missouri Valley.

This should get you to the final 4. right @lurkeraspect84?

Was fully aware of the hip injury. Would be a top 50 player if he can regain his old form. Just don't get overly excited about guys dealing with major injuries. But, considering he's a 10th round pick, he's probably worth the value now.
