2021 NBA playoffs discussion thread

Before I look it up, did Memphis get a good return for Conley?
Korver Crowder Grayson Allen a 2019 1st round pick and 2020 first round pick. Don’t know what happened to the picks though. I read the 2019 pick was 23 and when I looked it up Utah took Bazely who then went to OKC. Then saw Utah picked at 27 last year. Weird.

Utah very well could have traded other teams picks they had acquired.

Wade much better than Paul Pierce? I mean, Wade was better, but Paul Pierce was pretty darn good. Let’s not have revisionist history here. The Celtics won 66 freaking games and were the shoo-in favs for the title. Paul Pierce is one of the best small forwards of all time. He was a 10x all star who averaged basically 20 points per game for his career. Come on now.

But I’m not sure what difference your point makes anyway. So the Heat were a little better? Or their ceiling was high. What does that have to do with players getting together to form a super team. How super the super team is, is irrelevant.
How many titles did the celtics win?

how many did the heat win?

whixh team was better?

Lebron/wade/bosh didnt decide to form a super team in miami? I get wade was already there, was he not a FA, is that my mistake?

It just kills the parity. Like dude said, gonna be forst finals in however long with no cleveland, miami, lakers, or gsw.

People forget how good Paul Pierce was. I think a bit of it has to do with his tv persona following his bball career. However, as you said...dude was awesome.
So if your picking one for your team in their prime youd take Pierce over Wade.

im aware pierce was an amazing player, wade was just better imo, and thats not really a knock on pierce, wade was just that good as well, but i do understand its basically splitting hairs.

Depends on the team. Idk that’s a tough call. Both were spectacular. I liked Dwades slashing game more but pierce was a bit of a better shooter.

Celtics won 1. Heat won 2. Not really a massive difference.

The Heat were better at their peak, we all agree. The Celtics were better in their first year as a Big 3. But that’s not really the point. The conversation wasn’t about which super team was more super duper. It was just about when the newest “super team era” started.

Wade was already with Miami. Sure his contract was up for renewal, but it’s not like he was going anywhere. The city had a damn “Miami-Wade County” celebration that year. Dwayne Wade was drafted by Miami, developed in Miami, and was always going to be with the Heat. They didn’t “acquire” Dwayne Wade via free agency. They simply used their bird rights to re-sign him.

So they acquired two guys, just like the Celtics acquired two guys.

Golden State and Lebron definitely dominated finals for the last decade. No question. One has the best shooter in the history of the world and Lebron will go down as a top 2-3 player of all time.

But between 2009 and 2019, we still had 10 different orgs play in the NBA finals, with 7 of them winning a championship. That’s pretty decent parity. 33% of the league played for a title over a 10 year stretch.

Last year in the bubble was a weird year, but this year will see new teams play in the Finals and a new team win it.

So it’s gonna be 12 organizations playing for the title in 12 years, and 8 different orgs winning a championship.

In today’s NBA I’d pick Pierce. In the mid-2000s I’d lean very slightly to Wade.

But my initial response was based on you saying Wade was “much better” than Pierce. I don’t see how one can reach that conclusion.

Absolutely not. Wade is one of the best shooting guards ever. Even without being an average shooter from deep he was elite inside the arc and a phenomenal defender. Was the best player on the Heat's first title team. Pierce is a legit HoF guy, but there's a big gap between the two.

What does that have to do with anything? The Celtics formed a super team, just like the Heat did. So did the Lakers around that time. Does nobody remember the SI cover?

Your basis that the Heat were "better" (which is true) doesn't matter. Both Big 3's were formed with 3 hall of famers. Boston traded for theirs, while the Heat had to make a bunch of trades as well (including the two sign & trades) to make them work under the salary cap. You wanna argue it killed parity? Fine. But you know what really killed parity? Kevin fvcking Durant signing with a team that had won 73 games the year prior.

Yeah. I’m a Warriors fan and even I don’t really like Kevin Durant. He’s way worse than Lebron.

I think the only fans that like Durant are UT and who ever he's currently playing for.

The Rapaport/Durant drama was hilarious though.

Anyone who says Durant is better than Lebron clearly doesn’t watch NBA. Lebron is the best player in the league, love em or hate him.

I didn’t even like him when he was in Oakland. I tolerated him most of the time and was happy to see him sit sometimes.

I meant worse as in his insecurity and bitching and just general attitude. Basically, reasons for fans to dislike him.

He’s thin skinned, but my point still stands. I think KD is a top 5 player fwiw.

You think LeBron was the best player in the league this year? And do you think he'll be the best from here on out. I'd say no to both.
Lebron is the best player in the league. Not making excuses for their post season play, but I still consider him the best right now. Also “here on out” doesn’t make sense when he’s probably retiring in a few years. There are players who will surpass him at the end, but who’s a better all around player?

Agree about Lebron. I know I know currently...Watching certain players over the years, it's just greatness after greatness. I grew up in the 80's and maybe it's nostalgia speaking or maybe it's those were stepping on the court back then wasn't worried about image or what have you, but that game. There was a rawness to it. No Boys Allowed.

I just don’t know who is put above him right now in today’s game.

Was talking to wife, my point was Lebron is a guy who would excel then, take on the physicality.

For sure. He’s been a force his entirety in the league. I remember his rookie year thinking, “wtf, this dude is huge” and he didn’t have nearly the skill set he does now. His passing is probably the best in the league. Lebron controls tempo, and is a once in a lifetime player. Hard for me to grasp people doubting his play. The dude is 36 going on 37, and is still in incredible shape.

Who knows who's coming next, but there's an impressive list of just 80's athlete's I'm super thankful I got to watch them live.

I think several players had better years, although LBJ was hurt for a portion of the season. Having a better year and being better overall are two different things though, so I can see one's argument for him still being the best.

I hate closing my illegal stream tab where I'm watching the game and then have to close all the pop up tabs to get back to it. F'n rookie mistake.

For sure. Others had a better year no doubt, but I don’t think they’re better players.

This game is awful btw. Bucks getting rammed. This may be a sweep, but probably goes to 5.
