2021 NBA playoffs discussion thread

I don't really understand the issue with guys moving from team to team. If it's allowed then why not do what you need to to win a title. There are plenty of other reasons I dislike Lebron but that isn't one of them.

In before @WeAreDePaul climaxes
Hawks played great. Doc Rivers waited too long to realize Danny Green on Trae Young isn’t going to end well. Hawks played lights out. Tip of the cap to them. But it’s not likely that a team that averaged 12 made 3s through the regular season and 12 made threes in the playoffs is going to continue to hit 20 3s a game. Sixers defense today and the plan to stay with DG on Young were poor.

On the flipside, we were missing one of our best players in Hunter. If he plays instead of Bozoman Hill we are probably up 30 going into the 4th. Hopefully Hunter is ready to go Tuesday cause we need him.

I need the Clippers to win this one. Luka is hot early. I think you have to stick Kawhi on him most of the game. It may hinder his offense a little, but the Mavericks need Lukas scoring way more than the Clippers need Leonard’s.

The Sixers are done unless they can figure out a scheme to play Young. It’s embarrassing that they weren’t prepared. All you saw was what they’ve done all year. It’s Young floater, Young all the way hole, Young lob, or Young cross court pass to 3 ball. Sixers looked horribly unprepared. That’s on the staff.

Clippers switching Reggie Jackson for Beverly was the best thing they’ve done all year.

If you dont see the difference in a front office trading and drafting the players on their team, and three all stars getting together in the offseason and deciding to all sign as free agents with the same team, idk what to tell you, we will have to agree to disagree.

the difference to me is the way boston did it, although being a big time market, at least gives hope to the small markets that maybe they could pull off something similair. With the player empowerment, im afraid all the elite players are gonna flock to the big market cities and its gonna go back to no parity.

i was wrong on Garnetts age, my apologies, but still lebron/wade>>>>>>garnett/piece at any point in their careers.

you a heat fan? I have no problem with what the hear did, hell theyd be stupid not to entertain forming that team. My problem is with Lebron. The self proclaimed King shouldnt have to jump on another superstars team to win a title. And in doing so, set the tone that (sans dallas) unless you have multiple stars you have no chance of beating lebron in a playoff series. (In his prime assuming no injuries)

Sad thing is D wade was my favorite player before he adopted lebron to miami.

I’m not a Heat fan. I’d say I probably am closer to disliking them than I am to liking them. Although I do like Jimmy Butler.

I just don’t see a big difference between the two scenarios. Every team has players they drafted on it. And just to be able to have the cap space to sign free agents, the front office needed to do serious work to put themselves in position.

Just curious, but what 3 stars all decided to sign with the same team as free agents in an off season? I don’t recall that happening but maybe I’m having a brain fart.

Your assuming garnett/pierce/allen colluded to play together, and maybe they did.

i know for a fact lebron/wade/bosh did.

And sign and trades to meet the cap reatrictions are hardly the same as regular trades imo. Sign and trades are a loophole imo to get under the cap. Normal trades have to be somewhat appealing to both teams.

also not buying you cant compare the talent. Lebron is possibly the best ever, wade was much better than pierce or allen. Garnett was better than bosh. But i dont see how its irrelevant to compare. That miami team was way more stacked than that boston team and theyve got more hardware to prove it.

Wade much better than Paul Pierce? I mean, Wade was better, but Paul Pierce was pretty darn good. Let’s not have revisionist history here. The Celtics won 66 freaking games and were the shoo-in favs for the title. Paul Pierce is one of the best small forwards of all time. He was a 10x all star who averaged basically 20 points per game for his career. Come on now.

But I’m not sure what difference your point makes anyway. So the Heat were a little better? Or their ceiling was high. What does that have to do with players getting together to form a super team. How super the super team is, is irrelevant.

Nice ball movement from the Clipps. Kawhi gotta win this one for em honestly.

Kawhi just doing it on both sides of the ball. Really making it tough on Luka this quarter and taking it strong on the other end. Looks like he’s on a mission.

People forget how good Paul Pierce was. I think a bit of it has to do with his tv persona following his bball career. However, as you said...dude was awesome.

I’ve been super impressed with Terrence Mann. Dude can play.

Saw him play in person for 4 years. Just a straight up basketball player. There’s a reason FSU’s resurgence came with guys like him and Trent Forrest on the roster.

Some dudes ooze talent but don’t know how (or don’t have the discipline/desire) to play winning basketball. Guys like Anthony Edwards or Andrew Wiggins.

But other guys might lack ideal size or a specific skill, but they just freaking make winning plays within the flow. That’s Terance Mann. Of course it doesn’t hurt that he’s an excellent defender too.

RaiQuan Gray is another guy who will be just like Mann. Second round pick overlooked due to a lack of name value as a recruit and lack of raw stats in college. But will absolutely make a team better.

Haha, he’s not good as an announcer. That’s for sure. But yeah as a player he was a monster.

So strange how bad doncic is at fts

Gotta be mental. Maybe he should try step back FTs. Less thinking, more rhythm.

@WeAreDePaul congrats to your Hawks, by the way. I was driving back from out of town the whole game, but I read the play by play—looks like Hawks just took it to them.

Maybe some folks will start to give some credit to where it’s due. Hawks are a team to take seriously and have a very good chance at being even better next season.

Kawhi a killer. And that 2018 draft class was stacked. Still amazes me Luka slipped. What he did in Euroleague as an 18 year old was unheard of.

He’s so damn good but he’s a whiner. May be the biggest whiner in the league. Hard for me to root for him. But the respect is there.

The Kings selecting Bagley over Luka is one of the biggest NBA draft blunders of all time. Said it on draft night and that was only when I figured Luka would be a top 10 type player, not a top 3 player.

Luka should have gone number 1. But at least with Phoenix you can say they had Booker already and Ayton is also a very good player in his own right, fitting in exactly with what they needed.

But the Kings? Wtf? How do you take your run of the mill “good not great” PF over a guy like Luka? Just baffling.

The Nets big 3 with injury issues? Shocking, I tell you, shocking. By the time Harden comes back, Durant will miss a game or two.

Harden's hamstring was the big issue going into the playoffs. The scary thing is, the Nets are so dominant it may not matter.

It may not matter in the East. I’ll give you that. They won’t win the championship without all three playing that series.

I’m thinking the Jazz come out of the West. Mitchell, Gobert, Conley, Clarkson…they are balanced and deep.

Before I look it up, did Memphis get a good return for Conley?

I can’t recall. That was a couple years ago. A was Crowder part of that? Maybe some draft picks that led to good pieces like Bane? Idk to be honest.
