Where do you see your team vs it's ranking?

Looking forward to Vols/Noles. I have not seen the Noles. What are y'all's strengths and weaknesses?

Strength is defense, particularly interior defense. Weakness is offense, particularly consistent perimeter shooting.

But honestly, we just need to get healthy. Had all kinds of injuries.

I heard Vol fans scooped up the vast majority of the tickets right when they opened. @della is it gonna be a sea of Orange?

If you go based completely on play ....anywhere outside the top five is reasonable. Anything lower than 25 would probably not make sense.

Our strength is Guard play and our weakness is inside. If you blended the teams, you could make an ass kicker.

I don't know about the tickets.

expecting Iowa to be in the RV catagory by the end of the season. with them having 3 new starters it will take time to gel or get the chemistry to play as a team.

every team loses players, to me who steps up to replace them.
Cook led the team in scoring and rebounding
Garza looks to have stepped in take his place
Moss was 5th in scoring and it looks like Fredrick has stepped into his place
Jordan was at 1st thought was going to RS, now it looks like he might play
Baer is a ? mark at 1st I thought that Patrick would take his place but there is now talk that he may RS,
Dailey played very little so it looks like Till will replace him.

this team will be better than people want them to be,

Gilligan always having hope.

We will see next week where they are at.
If they put up a fight against Texas Tech.

Horrible matchup for Iowa right now. But I do think Tech's defense is a little suspect compared to last year.
Iowa could stick around if they find space but don't count on it.

To make it worse you follow that up with Syracuse.

Gonzaga is at #8. They’ve blown everyone out including a kind of impressive 30 point blowout at Texas A&M. I’m confident that they are a top 10 team.

Like always Killian Tillie is hurt. We’ve got to stop wondering how good the Zags could be with a healthy Tillie when he has been injured for like 80% of the last 50 games Gonzaga has played.

Looks like UT Arlington went Tech on Gonzaga tonight.
Hell of a job by Chris Ogden, his staff and players to hold Gonzaga under 40% shooting

Uh...okay. Are you calling that homerism?

Hey, if a team nearly covering the spread makes you feel better about losing to a 25 pt dog, good for you.
Always awesome. I like how you immediately thought about KU, and the chance of me referring to KU, when reading my post. I like your responses, since then, even more.

There's a reason I typed "if." I don't typically follow every other team's matchups vs midmajors.

not hope as Fran has these on his roster this season by ESPN
top 100 4* Connor RSSO
top 100 4* Wieskamp SO
top 100 4* Garza JR
top 100 4* Patrick FR
4* outside the top 100 Toussaint FR
4* outside the top 100 Jordan SR.

so far this is the break down
there are 2 starters from last seasons team in Wieskamp and Garza
there are 3 new players in Patrick, Toussaint and Fredrick
these are the new starters this season Fredrick, Connor and Nunge who started 17 games as a FR before last season
Pemsl who was a starter in his FR season is coming off of a knee ending surgery which had him RS as a JR making him a RSJR this season
that is the most Talent on a Fran team since he has been here, in the 12-13 thru 15-16 season he started out with these
top 100 4* Gesell and top 50 4* Woodbury and as 4 year starters went to the NIT Championship game winning 25 games in there FR season
then they went to the NCAAT 3 straight years, recording the 3rd best win total by 4 year starters in Iowa's history. finishing 3rd in the BT in back to back 12-6 records.

now he has 4 ESPN top 100 4* players on the roster.

This is the best defensive squad that Duke has had in the OAD era that's for sure. We lack consistent scoring however so that's leading to grind it out affairs if we shoot the ball poorly or blowouts if we're on offensively.

I like the balance and depth on the team. We have no truly great players this year...but are there even any really in CBB now?

also Garza in the middle has been drawing dbl and triple teams in the 1st 3 games, in spite of that he is avg'ing 21.3 ppg, 10 rpg, 1.3 bpg. shooting 54.5% from the field and 50% from 3.

it will be interesting to see how TT defends Garza, looks like he won't be alone as 7' Nunge did this his last game
14 points, 10 rebounds,

Nunge and Gaeza combined for 44 points, 20 rebounds in the middle, with them combining to go 4-9 from 3, even Jordan went 3-7 from 3, spacing should not be a problem as the question should be can TT matchup with Iowa's Height and ability to stretch the floor? Iowa does have 5 starters that can all shoot the 3 with Jordan coming off the
bench as Iowa's career leader in made 3 pointers.

His shift key probably just says shit at this point.
what's the matter can't handle the make up of this seasons team. here is another one of my favorites
1 6'5 Connor RSSO
2 6'3 Fredrick RSFR
3 6'6 Wieskamp SO
4 7'0 Nunge RSSO
5 6'11 Garza JR
as Fran goes away from the traditional PG thru C to a more positionless lineup.

What a loaded roster.

Not much in today's basketball

it is as far Iowa goes in Fran's 9 years. Iowa has not had that much talent at the same time since the 89-90 90-91 seasons when those teams had a Elite 8 and a sweet 16 finish that also posted the #1 and #2 best win totals by 4 year starter that group were JR and SR's when they did that.

before that was under Lute whose team as JR's won a share of the BT Championship then went to the FF as SR's,

Iowa is a horrible defensive team.

Basketball is isn't like football.

You need a defense in basketball because you don't change from offense to defense in the sport.

Iowa still will give up 80+ points but solid defensive teams could hold Iowa to under 60.

Last year Iowa's defense improved but they have taken another step back.

no they are better as for their offense is rated #6 scoring 84 ppg. again there are 3 new starters in the lineup. so it takes a little time to learn how to play as a team. if I am reading this correctly in the 18-19 season they finished #111 @ 101.3 vs this season thru 3 games #115 @ 96.4 looks to me like they have improved. horrible not even close.

You played a few cupcakes and DePaul.
DePaul exposed your weakness and they are a fringe NCAA Tournament team.
If DePaul can expose your weaknesses you think the tougher teams on your schedule will as well.

that was DePaul 4th game vs Iowa 2nd game, and this years DePaul team is not even close to last years team, Iowa had 3 NEW starters
RSSO Connor
RSFR Fredrick
RSSO Nunge who hadn't played since March of 2018.
RSJR Pemsl played his 1st game since November of 2017
SR Jordan is still in a wait and see if he will play or RS this year.

their are a lot of new pieces which are starting to fall into place, these are the 3 new faces this season
FR Patrick will be Wieskamps back up if he does not RS
FR Toussaint is Connors backup
RSSR transfer Evelyn is the backup to Connor and Fredrick.

these all need to adjust to their roles on the team while the FR/RSFR have to adjust to the speed of the game.

my question is this why are you against Iowa being any good in any sport.

Not against Iowa.
Just stating my opinion. .
I believe Iowa will win some games but for the most part their defense once again will be an issue

If you look at last year there was a change at Iowa early in the season on defense
So far it looks closer to the 2017-2018 season this year

2 years ago they were focused on the offense and not on the defense and got embarressed, last year Fran brought in a defensive specialist for 6 weeks in the summer and got the players to focus on defense, which resulted in that improvement
last summer he hired a coach that was more defense oriented. Fran knows how to coach defense but prefers offense in these years this was their adj defense
3013 24th
2014 77th
2015 34th
2016 30th
2017 123
2018 242
2019 111
hmmm 1 really bad year 3 years poor years but 3 years of very good years of defense and you choose the outlier of the 7 years as the norm of Fran's teams defensive abilities.

ever think maybe that the players
1st didn't buy into playing defense
2nd only wanted to play offense and tried to outscore their opponents.

sometimes the players play a big part of not applying the defense they are taught.

Still makes you are a bad defensive team no matter who you want to blame.

Iowa's success this season will be based on the quality of the B1G
Don't know how much you play each team and where.

As of right now they aren't a tournament team.
They may get better throughout the season but all teams do as well so it will matter on your schedule if you end up a tournament team.

Most likely Iowa won't win any big OOC games.
Tech may not be as solid on defense this year but they are a team that prides themselves on defense.
Would be a surprise if Iowa doesn't lose by more than 10 right now.

Syracuse?
If you hit your shots against them
But Syracuse forces the majority of teams to play their game.

Most likely a NIT team

Cuse plays zone as does Iowa,

don't make ban bets but it really is tempting to do one with you.

You do. Syracuse plays it for different reasons than Iowa probably
They recruit players to fit their system. All long who can impact shots.

Iowa probably plays zone because they lack the athletes on the court to do anything else.
Fran recruits players that fit his system as well, as for length here is what Iowa will be throwing at Syracuse
6'5 Connor at the 1 back up 6'0 Toussaint
6'3 Fredrick at the 2 6'3 Evelyn
6'6 Wieskamp at the 3 6'9 Patrick if healthy
7'0 Nunge at the 4 6'8 Pemsl
6'11 Garza at the 5 6'10 Kriener
6'1 Jordan at the 1 or 2
6'7 Till at the 3

they have the length and athletic ability to play zone or man to man plus put on the full court press that Dr. Tom was famous for, he also came in and showed them how to use it.

Fran in his 9 seasons has only had 2 LOSING SEASONS. once in his 1st season then his 2nd in his 8th season,

yet here you are acting like it has been a yearly occurance. also Iowa has made the NCAAT 4 times in the last 6 years, 3 times with far less talented teams.

I found the following on Fran McCaffrey’s personal info section of his wiki page. What are the odds that dragon hawk is the one who put that there?

McCaffery's son, Connor, currently plays for his dad at Iowa. He was considered to be a top 100 recruit in the country.[10] Connor also plays baseball for the Iowa Hawkeyes baseball team.

Patrick McCaffery joined his brother Connor by committing to Iowa in 2018. He is considered a top 100 recruit for the class of 2019.[11]

how could I put it there as it is easily verified on their rankings.
Connor was a 4* by Rivals and a top 100 4* by ESPN
Patrick was a top 100 4* by Rivals and a top 100 4* by ESPN those are easily verified.
