SEC race is going to be a good one between UK and UT...

I think the bigger question is why UK is even be allowed equal billing with the Vols? They are barely top 20 in KenPom and bama and Aubie are Top 5.
I'm not the biggest fan of those rankings this early, but that was kind of my point. I don't think conference play will be a breeze for anyone. Road games especially will be tough in general. Should be a fun season.

Well the season is over a 1/3 over, so those rankings should be reliable.

Some of us have been playing ligit competition and others haven't. UT has...
Poor Alabama. I'll tell you what, no team in our conference better understands their strengths and weaknesses than Bama right now. To say they've challenged themselves is an understatement.

Yeah, the bammers can beat anyone on a given nite.

I think they reward playing (not winning) tough games too much. Like Bama is a very solid squad but should they be rated higher than say Ole Miss? They've scheduled really tough, but they've taken a lot of Ls. Ole Miss only has a couple good wins but they've been winning. I feel like Bball needs more data to really see a clear picture.

They are rated much higher on KenPom and are top ten in Quad rankings.

I can't find it but it turns out UT will have the most quad 1 wins opportunities in the SEC schedule.. Can't find it but iirc, it was 10 for UT and 8 for UK.

IMO that's how you schedule to prepare for the NCAAT. But then we can lose in the first round to a midmajor and all is for not. But scheduling is fun.

Lurker, I just thought it would be fun giving y'all a little poke. In truth, I believe any of 5 teams could win the SEC. But, what's the fun of saying that?

Well, not too often. Probably because it happened 20 years ago with Roy Williams’ players. That’s like bringing up UAB. 🤣

They certainly had a heyday with it for years though.

My point is it’s lame to act like there wasn’t more than enough talent available to beat that team at home. And the same player that was allegedly so critical was widely criticized before that game, and most of you were saying he shouldn’t be starting. Which is it?

The “without the bigs” excuse gets pretty old. Neither of those guys are great players right now, and if they played in the KU game, that means Thiero doesn’t have a career game in points and rebounds.
I don't disagree, UK had way more than enough talent to win that game, but that's the issue you have with young teams and it doesn’t just go away with time. Once young teams get into the NCAAT, all it takes is one thing to upset the apple cart and it throws off the whole thing to the point where they struggle to overcome it.

I love this team, but youth is going to be an issue all year. You saw what happened when UK and KU played, the young guys choked when it mattered most.

Correct, that’s what I was saying. Teams like Ole Miss and Auburn haven’t plated anyone worth a damn.

Not even close. I really don't think the metrics truly compensate for the difference in competition.
Those metrics don't take into account the raucous environments teams like UK, TN, Bama and aTm have played in front of, compared to the home environments Auburn and OM have been playing bad teams in front of.
There just isn’t enough data yet to get those metrics to be accurate. The rankings will look totally different by mid January.

Computer rankings are too skewed this time of the year. You'll have a better feeling from them after Jan, then even more after Feb.

Now by the eye test, Kentucky is the talk of town, don't you know. UT not so much these days. They liked how we played against UNC. Certainly more than UT.

UT hasn't lost to any 3 Quad teams Junkie or don't you know?

Jeff,

Vols SOS 18
bammers 9
UK 165
Auburn has a SOS of 108

UK has clearly had the lighter schedule of the 4.

What are Auburn's toughest games?

Are they as tough as KU, uNC anmd Miami?

The metrics are not accurate yet.

The metrics are accurate based on y'all's lowest of the low teams you've played. You can't sweep a home loss to Willington away Jeff. Auburn has no loss close to comparing with that. That was a quad 3 loss and at home.

But that has nothing to do with what we were talking about. We were talking about SOS, not wins and losses.

Auburn has played Baylor, ND and IU and a bunch of mid majors. They lost to Baylor and beat the other 2 handily. But ND and IU (away from home) are pretty awful.

Yeah, UK has a very bad loss, but they have 2 wins that are far better than Auburn (and UT) have.

The first two I’ll give you. Miami hasn’t looked anything but mediocre or worse all year.

Edit to add: Baylor is better than Miami, but that’s not really the question at hand. Kentucky’s OOC SOS probably won’t get much better as the season moves on. For whatever reason, Cal scheduled either good teams or really, really bad ones. The difference between padding your schedule with 300+ ranked opponents versus 150-ish shouldn’t be that much. Both should be wins. But one of them will really punish you on SOS numbers. I think Cal does that because his team is young so it gives him a chance to just beat up teams and use it as practice time without as much of a risk of dropping them. But it ultimately may hurt their computer numbers come seeding time.

SOS is calculated against all games played Jeff. If you're saying that wins and losses have nothing to do with it why do you mention Auburn's, knucklehead?

You know I'm just messing with you Jeff, cause it is just so fun to do. However, you have bigger problems to deal with as I have just passed you in the Pick em contest. 😘

Illinois might be the best win for any of those teams.

Oh yeah, Cal has watered the schedule down bigtime. We don't play in anymore holiday tournaments, or the Maui Invitational. I hate it.

As far as Miami and Baylor, I don't see much difference between the 2. Miami has a couple big thumpings, but Baylor was down 30 at Michigan State, so they're not much better right now.

Fid you get a perfect score? I got 20, I believe.
If, in fact, you are ahead of me, your stay there, will be short.lived, I assure you of that.

UT has made UK the winningest all-time team. /without our 160 wins, we'd be lower on the list of all-time wins.

They've also devoted their time to making us the most successful SEC team.

Go Vols.
Nobody has kicked UK's ass as much as the Vols.
