I trash their back court because they can’t shoot. And that’s sorta important in today’s game.
I have a good feeling that changes. Al has improved every season... went from 28% to 34% last season..Greens damn near a 40% career three-point shooter(39%), and shot 41% last year. Look for Rob to improve. Hunter--yes, I know, he was 0-4 tonight---can shoot. Anderson looked a lot more comfortable. Franklin looks capable.

I have a nice feeling about this years shooting.

Green wasn’t a problem? I feel like the IU fanbase wasn’t this optimistic about Green last year but maybe that’s just my faulty memory.
Green was [rightly] IU fans top target of frustration for like 2/3 of the season last year.

You could tell Phinisee was gonna be a player. Durham seems like he’ll be a solid role player who can play multiple spots.

lol agree, seems like a bold one.

I think speaking in any kind of certainty in regards to either of these rosters is pretty bold bc frankly there are a lot of question marks on each, particularly offensively.

We might be underestimating TJD a little bit

Is he beating out Smith? Or first guy off the bench?
He won't start over Smith. Especially if he(Smith) puts it together. SMith is to imporant defensively,--and his rebounding. But TJD will find minutes. I could see him starting along with Justin as well.

I like what I saw from Anderson tonight as well. Seemed more comfortable. Hope he keeps that going. Same with Race.

I am about to watch the game on my flight home so hoping to see some good things in the second half...first half looks to be real bad

The front court comparison is very close. Call it a bold take, but Williams is severely overrated, and the fact that Haarms and Williams can’t play together doesn’t look good for Purdue. That means they are either getting 20 minutes each or Williams will be playing 15 minutes a game which I think think is more likely.

One of the stats I found interesting from the Purdue scrimmage is that Haarms didn’t make a single basket inside the arc (1-4) overall. Since Haarms is supposed to be their go to scorer, I would find that concerning as a Purdue fan. Especially since he was going against their backup center not even their starter.

The backcourt comparison isn’t close, imo. IU clearly has the better backcourt. Eastern is a stud on defense, but doesn’t bring much offensively, so I will take RP over him all day every day. Proctor will soon find out that the B1G is not as easy as the Big South. Green wins that matchup easily. Sasha would have to take a major stride to be a good starter at the B1G level. He’s obviously a capable shooter when he is on, but I don’t think he will be replacing what Cline was for Purdue last season. I’d definitely take Durham.

Can someone bring back all of NC Trojan's takes from last season? This guy is too much

Williams severely overrated? Lol.

They can’t play together because Williams would likely struggle guarding other team’s 4’s it’s not rocket science.

Do we really have to bring up Eastern’s stats against RP’s again? Other than RP being a better shooter, why take him all day every day over Nojel?

Good call. I stayed away, I thought the Astros would win honestly though with all the momentum they had. You take the +1.5 runs or nats moneyline?

Would this be the first series where the road team wins all games?

I see @B1G_Fan is back for his preseason hot takes.

Fyi, there were 6 games last year where one of those 4 players scored double digits (Haarms 4, Cline 2, Nojel 1, Eifert 0).

There were 2 games last year where none of those four scored a point. You can't possibly think you will be good offensively this year.

Ban bet that Purdue doesnt finish top 4?

Eastern, Haarms, and Eifert. Combined they hit 6 3s. Literally probably shouldn't have been used since they did manage to hit a couple 3s, but that doesnt change the fact that Purdue has serious question marks in the 3pt department.

I see you have no argument against it...

I also noticed you didnt dispute that IU has better shooters by position..

No one ever said they didnt? Eastern wont make the defensive teamRollLaugh

Well all the Purdue fans I know think Nojel sucks, so not sure you will have much support there. Hunter will be starting over Nojel by conference.

It's going to be great when IU finishes 3 or 4 games ahead of Purdue this year...

Make an argument against it using stats. Dont use a "everyone knows Cline is a better shooter than McRoberts".

The fact is, you cant. They are both 39% shooters. Cline hits double the amount of 3s, but only because he takes more.

The big difference between Cline and Mcroberts is that Clines job on the team is to be a shooter. He is a terrible defender. Mcbobs real job on the team is to be a great defender and do the little things. It just so happens that he does Clines job at the same level as well...

Lol Purdue isnt a tournament team this year, and they certainly arent a tournament team next year when they lose Carsen and Cline.

I hope Purdue keeps painter for the next 40 years!

Carsen and Wheeler are athletic. Nojel and Haarms not so much. Nojel has more missed dunks in his career than actual dunks.

Not a chance Purdue makes the tournament.

Money line. Already on the money line for tomorrow. Scherzer as an underdog, sign me up.
I may have to join you on that one. Assuming Scherzer is healthy, I don’t see how the Nats are dogs going against Greinke. I get the home field thing but that sure as shit hasn’t mattered in this series.

I see @B1G_Fan is back for his preseason hot takes.
Holy fck on these hot takes. So so so bad.

Edit: Also, going back and re-reading the thread, many of you fckers had some awful posts in there. Otte was definitely proven right.

IU guys, it gets repetitive when every single year you talk about how you’re going to be better than Purdue, and then shit the bed. It’s like the boy who cried wolf. Purdue is going to better this year than you guys, just like the year before, and the one before that, and the one before that.

Who said IU was going to be better outside of one guy? Seems like the majority of us said we don’t know who’s going to be better. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say one team is night and day better at this point.

And when you look at purely rosters, I agree. I can see an argument for IU. But Matt Painter is Purdue’s head coach.

I would feel confident putting money on Purdue being better this year IMO.

He’s had a good run over the last few years, I agree. However, he’s not at Bo Ryan status yet where he is automatically gonna finish in the top four IMO. I think this year we’ll see what Painter can do because it doesn’t appear he’s got a go to like Edwards or two volume shooters like Edwards and Cline. He has to have everyone more involved it would seem. Not sure that happens this year, it could, but I think it could not just as easily.

As for IU, I don’t know where we’re gonna be either. Need to see Archie beat good teams consistently or at least hold serve at home. If he can do that, we’ll be fine. I don’t think we’ll be worse than last year though.

Yeah I agree, although I would be shocked if Purdue fell any lower than about 5th. I was more so talking to NC Trojan than all of you.

MSU beat Albion, Cassius Winston’s brothers’ school, 85-50 in an exhibition game. Cassius and Tillman played great, obviously. I didn’t get to watch it but it sounds like Malik Hall and Thomas Kithier played well, but Bingham got bodied by Albion’s 6’7 center.

Fcking Malik Hall. So perfect for our offense. The one that got away...

Good banter back and forth is fine. & like others have said, it’s hard to be so confident one way or another. It’s people like @B1G_Fan (aka Trojan) that start throwing around the “it isn’t close” “iu’s backcourt is clearly better” garbage before a game is even played that’s hilarious. It’s one thing if your backcourt has a proven guy like Cassius Winston, it’s another if your backcourt is coming off a season that missed the tournament.

And he clearly still doesn’t believe in Nojel Eastern just like before last season lol

Think you need to add @B-Westy in that group that throw in the “it isn’t close” nonsense. Be fair he was basically doing it yesterday.

Well, RP was a freshman and sat out for several games last year so I’m not so sure stats alone tell the whole story.

Just like you all arguing that your guys have better shooters even though IU’s returning players have a higher overall percentage on more attempts. Stats don’t always tell the whole story.
