Corruption

I’ve laid out the whole thing. You still don’t follow. Maybe sleep on it and see if you get it tomorrow.
You keep saying people were just arrested for lying to the government. They were all lying ABOUT RUSSIA to the government. That makes them crimes "involving Russia". His statement was 100% factual (thank you for finally quoting it though.)

You know, because I do want to be accurate, lemme change that post; don’t love how I phrased it.

I mean you could drop a name or two out, but the general idea behind the statement was completely valid. Lots of witches with ties to Russia getting caught in this Russian witch hunt.

Yes. This is clear, right? Flynn was found guilty of lying to the FBI, about communications he had with the Russians about lifting American sanctions for meddling with the election.

Sorry if my original post was too broad; I tried to make it more specific.

And the Capone thing should be obvious. You get the boss by making the little fish squirm, and you use whatever they’ve done illegally to make them squirm.

The actual communications/dealings with Russia weren’t illegal. The lying about it made them illegal.

A sane person would ask why lie about it if you weren't doing anything illegal?

"What the hell, I'll risk federal time so I can lie about my totally legal meeting." Come on dude...

Sure, but I do want to be clear... if I am saying something is factual, it should be clearly so.

I’m sure it was mostly just name calling and the like?:). You don’t need to bother, the back and forths are always a waste. We can just see what news breaks next.

This is a great example of why conservatives hate listening to liberals. You claim Trump has been connected with a number of people who have been found guilty of illicit dealings involving Russia. Wrong.

Wrong? What do you think these people all lied about?

Flynn is in trouble for lying to the FBI (or another agency).

He denied he had discussions with Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak about undoing sanctions that Obama imposed on Russia for election interference. … IOW, 'Tell Vladdy we really appreciate all you guys did to help Trump win - we'll take care of these silly sanctions once we get in office'.

Manafort is in financial/tax trouble and failing to disclose himself as a foreign agent for Ukraine or something like that.

Right... something like that. Paulie Walnuts is in the middle of two separate trials and about 40 different counts of money laundering, bank fraud, tax fraud, failing to register as a foreign agent, witness tampering and hell knows what else. Every single one of these counts involve taking dirty money from Kremlin backed Ukrainian mobsters/oligarchs and trying to hide it or wash it. Just as an aside, by early 2016, Paulie had spent all his illegal money and was in debt and needed some quick cash. What'd he do? He went to work for the Trump campaign for free. WHY WOULD HE DO THAT? This seems to be a pivotal question in the collusion narrative - and it's why Mueller is squeezing this dude so hard. The Reagan appointed hack in the 1st trial wouldn't let the prosecution probe that - but the Obama appointed judge in the DC trial is expected to give them a little more leeway. Stay tuned..

Papadopoulos I believe got caught lying to the government as well.

Papadopoulos lied about talking to some Russian asshole about obtaining 'dirt' on Hillary. Pretty much small potatoes compared to the other two traitors.

most of those who are connected with Trump so far haven't been convicted of "illicit dealings with Russia."

No, they were proven to have had illicit dealings with Russia, and they lied about it. The general perception is that Mueller offered them minimum charges in exchange for cooperation.

You need to stop watching Fox, SNU. You're not gonna learn anything there.

And the latest... Trump apparently lying about knowing about the Clinton dirt meeting with the Russians in advance. Again, getting anything from foreign governments that influence an election is illegal.

I think it is likelier that Senate Republicans would cooperate than House Republicans, but I still doubt they get the votes to remove from office.
The punishment for treason isn’t impeachment. It’s death. FYI
Technically not treason (legally). At least as far as I understand it.

I actually just looked it up. I lied. It’s 40 years max.

Yeah I’m not an attorney, but if Trump was at the meeting with Russians, it’s about as close as you can get to treason...

TREASON. This word imports a betraying, treachery, or breach of allegiance. The Constitution of the United States, Art. III, defines treason against the United States to consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid or comfort.

Unless Cohen has Trump on tape discussing this, his word against Trump and junior won't be enough.

The question is, how many other shady Trump orbit cronies know that Trump knew in advance and how many testimonies will it take to remove any he said/she said doubt? Or who can be seen as credible out of an administration full of liars? Hope Hicks maybe....

Yeah, since we are not at war with Russia they don't count as "enemies". Still illegal under a different name though.

Depends on if Cohen's testimony is the only evidence they have. There could also be a paper trail of someone documenting it.

All of this is conjecture on my part, obviously (since none of us know what Mueller does or does not have).

Unless a cyber attack can be defined as 'war'.
Not unless congress declares it, I believe. I'm not sure colluding with Iraq or Afghanistan would have even been treason since we don't declare war anymore. That felt weird to type, but I believe it is technically correct.

I think seeking to and coordinating with a foreign government to affect a federal election as well as trying to cover it up is the crime that will get him.
Way too many dots leading back to Russia and Putin preferring Trump over Clinton to ignore here. Russia wanted to help and it is clear the campaign was willing to violate federal laws to get help. The guys who have went down so far were all involved in the campaign. But, I think it’s the obstruction that will end this. Trump probably didn’t get much from Russia, but I think the intent was there to do so and that is a crime. Trying to conceal that crime is a crime. How any red blooded American can possibly see all of the smoke and not want to find the fire, and quickly, is beyond me.

I volunteer Hillary to prison if that helps.

I agree this is the most likely outcome. Trump isn't the end game, though - cleansing the Russian stench from our government is. The US hasn't taken them seriously since the 80's and they were able to mole their way in to our political system right under our nose.

So Trump pals around criminals and thugs! If only he was from Chicago with a deeper tan....Laughing

Speaking of corruption... notice that Donald now writes Department of “Justice”, with Justice in quotes?

Apparently that is on purpose. Because the Department of Justice... HIS Department of Justice... is just that corrupt.

There’s such corruption... When everybody sees what’s going on in the justice department, I always put justice now with quotes, it’s a very, very sad day," Trump added.

Oh, and about AG Sessions? Did he get the job because of his qualifications?

The only reason I gave him (Sessions) the job is because I felt loyalty," Trump said Thursday. "He was an original supporter."

But at least his “fed to him by Fox News” Twitter habit still has David Duke in his corner, even if the actual government of South Africa had to point out that it was a baloney story.

For someone who doesn't use social media much and doesn't watch fox news----you sure seem to get quite a bit of material from there.

No no, he didn’t say “He is a decent man and Constitutional expert who got us out of the worst recession in decades.”

I did lol though.

If Obama paid for an abortion for a pornstar while his third wife was pregnant all of the so called religious figureheads and Fox News would have swarmed the White House for his head. Weird how silent they are now...

That stuff is pretty widely available. The Hill keeps up with most of it; its a good source to start from... and they will often point out stuff on Twitter and the like.

And I don’t get much from Fox News, but the current president literally puts out White House statements and tags various Fox shows that he got the information from.

Btw, anyone see The White Houses latest detailed, thoughtful official statement?

1 am? Was he drunk? Is he cracking? Does he just have no worthwhile advisors who can rein him in? Or is it just desperate lashing out at this point?

Remember this one?
