Corruption

Terrible, for sure.

But again, the recent wave anger was primarily aimed at the separation of children from their parents. Check out the introduction paragraph of that very article you posted:

A federal judge in California has ruled that the Obama administration’s detention of children and their mothers who were caught crossing the border illegally is a serious violation of a longstanding court settlement, and that the families should be released as quickly as possible.

Of course there were people who saw photos posted from earlier recently and took those to be photos of now and got upset over them, but the issue really wasn’t simply conditions, as evidenced by the fact that conditions like that have existed before, and been photographed before, and were known about before, and there was no large scale pushback. The issue was the new policy of enforcement of criminal charges for all illegal immigrants, with the recognized outcome of taking children away from their parents, resulting in thousands of kids, including infants and toddlers, being take away from their parents.

I will say, I really appreciate your use of actual research, and then even italicizing the quote and boldfacing the relevant section!

Yeah I’m not sure how ANYONE can try to compare the two when the OUTCRY came from separating toddlers from their parents, making toodlers go in front of a JUDGE to represent themselves and are probably permanently separated from their parents forever. Family Values Party my ass!

Proof of any toddler, ever representing themselves in front of a judge?

AP: National Enquirer had safe of Trump documents, details of hush-money deals

Prosecutors have reportedly granted David Pecker Immunity. He owns the company that published National Enquirer. Veuer's Sam Berman has the full story. Buzz60

The National Enquirer had a safe full of documents outlining its deals with President Donald Trump, including records of hush-money deals it handled to quash stories, according to a report from the Associated Press.

The report came on the heels of prosecutors reportedly offering the CEO of the tabloid magazine's parent company, David Pecker, an immunity deal as investigators looked into campaign finance violations by Trump's former lawyer and fixer, Michael Cohen, and Trump's own role in those deals.

The details of how much content was inside the safe and whether the documents were now in the hands of prosecutors remained unclear.

Interesting. So we are now looking into Trump colluding with tabloids, which is much more believable than him colluding with Russia. Without being an expert on law, is this illegal? It certainly isn't shocking. They would have to prove that he used campaign money. Also I think it excites people because it uses phrases like "influence the election", but the important part is it was to NOT influence the election. Would it have been a crime for the opposition to pay for negative stories in order TO influence the election? I only ask, because I don't know. So far it just looks like an exposure of the POS Trump is that we already knew he was.

One thing that seems off to me is the amounts of $$$ involved. For a dude with billions of dollars and also running for POTUS---how are these dollar figures not higher? Does donald trump ever pay anybody?

The fact that Pecker cut a deal for immunity indicates that something certainly is illegal.

Yes, it is illegal. That’s why this is a big deal.

He doesn’t have as much money as he says. I mean, he still has LOTS of money, but not as much as he says.

Donald does have a history of not paying people... a lot of his empire is built on it. If you are interested, this article lays it out a bit.

But yeah, you would think people could have squeezed him for more.

Btw, the CFO of Trump Org just got immunity in order to work with Mueller.

Up until this point, I thought it was more likely Trump made it four years. I now think it less likely.

Not a big deal. Unless Trump specifically told Cohen to use campaign funds to pay those two women, it's not a big deal for Trump. Also, if Trump told Cohen to reimburse himself with campaign funds, then it would be a big deal. Both of those seem unlikely that Trump did that given he's worth billions and billions of dollars.

Again, this is a much to do about nothing regarding Trump, if you ask me. Democrats will think this is the end of Trump. Republicans will say it's not an issue for Trump. We'll likely be in the same spot we have been this whole time. Dems want him out. Republicans don't care.

I think it would take a lifetime to go thru all the lawsuits that trump has filed and has had filed against him. I know a lot of loaded people are notoriously cheap---but he takes it to the next level. I wonder if anyone has really become rich doing work for donald. You would think his legal team would be swimming in money--but it doesn't sound like thats the case. I wonder what he paid the enquirer guy to do all these favors. Anybody actually worth billions wouldn't do some of the shit he does b/c it wouldn't matter.

Longtime Trump Organization bookkeeper offered immunity by SDNY. This is BIG.

Allen Weisselberg is the CFO for Trump's company and originally started working for Fred Trump as an accountant back in the 70's. He knows EVERYTHING.

I seriously doubt that the feds would give this guy immunity just for info about payments made to a couple of 2 bit floozy's. This is where the investigation pivots to money laundering for organized crime (ie Russian mafia).

I love how Mueller has farmed this out to SDNY and Manhattan DA. He knows the possibility of pardons and/or himself or Rosenstein being fired is getting more likely with every news dump, so he's protecting the investigation by delegating things out beyond the reach of Trump's executive power. He did the same thing with the Maria Butina/NRA/GOP investigation.

I agree with most of the righties here - infidelity and campaign laws being broken will never lead to any real trouble for Trump. But that's not where this is ultimately going. The end game is showing how Trump is compromised by Russian financial influence. Mueller is managing this whole thing to perfection.

Really is amazing how similar this is to talking down a drug cartel. America’s most notorious crime family, arguably.

In what world has this ever been a real possibility? Y'all think that if Trump was beholden to Russian financial influence that shit wouldn't be in his tax returns which, I assume, Mueller most certainly has?

I think there is a ton of corruption in big business all across the country. Wipe it all out, in my opinion. Clean house. What I don't get is why it takes things like the Trump presidency to get these issues looked into. I mean, Manafort, had committed multiple tax violations. And we're not talking small dollar stuff here. How in the world does that stuff not get tracked down in normal course of business for someone like the IRS or other governing bodies? Crazy. Good news is, there have been several politicians, republican and democrats, that have been charged with corruption and similar crimes lately. I'm all for that stuff.

LMAO. You really need to expand your horizons, dude.

I'm good. I'm just confident that if there was some big financial smoking gun, Mueller would have it. The investigation would be over. And Trump would be gone. He's not. There isn't any major smoking gun in Trumps financials. This is nothing more than a "I really, really, really, really hope they find something or, well, anything to get Trump!"

There is definitely truth to that. A lot of politicians are involved to varying degrees. I think part of the reason Trump is in this mess is because he lacks the political experience to not get caught. I doubt all of them are as bad as Trump / Manafort, but I doubt any of them are shocked.

I also suspect that Lindsay Graham’s sudden turn about is because he has his own skeletons. There have been reports indicating he could be caught up.

Chuck Schumer once said that the show House of Cards was a very close depiction to how things function. And the guys on that are corrupt as hell. That says a lot IMO

If it can be proven, Allen Weisselberg likely IS the smoking gun. There is plenty of info out there already.

I am all for people paying for their bad deeds. But is this going to be standard operating procedure going forward on all elected presidents, or is this kind of crime search exclusively for Trump?

I am sure this will be viewed as a defense of Trump, but it is a legitimate question. Had HRC won the election, do we think a special prosecutor would be given a blank check to find any crime committed by her or her campaign under the disguise of a Russian collusion investigation?

Remember, refusing to accept the results of the election is a threat to our democracy....

This whole thing screams "insurance policy".

Smoking gun for what? Russian connections? I believe the article said they gave immunity in regards to the Cohen case. I read that as it's not full access to open books of Trump since he started business. But, back to my point, the likelihood of anything Russian tied being found isn't even remotely likely. It would have been uncovered ALREADY by Mueller. Y'all holding out hope that there is some giant smoking gun that's gonna show Trump tied to Russia is about as likely as me banging a Playboy bunny.

They've found plenty of stuff. The chirping of Trump's cronies and digging a deeper hole for him. The more dirt found, the better the chances for impeachment. See, you ignore what's actually happening. Or you simply don't care because Trump's a republican. With all his cronies getting immunity, should be a large red flag, even to republicans. Pubs will go down with a sinking ship rather than admit to the facts. Nixon had the decency to resign.

Trump's not a decent man. He's a liar, a crook, a manipulator and is creating a very divisive America. The justice department is designed to keep the executive branch in check. Trump's making them out to be enemies while all the time they're just doing their job.

As Fox host said Mr. President, this is all your fault. Fox is even turning against the POS...

Well, no Presidents in US history have zero political experience in their whole lives, have been involved in shady real estate deals involving Saudis, have backstories involving Russian intelligence in personally owned sky scrapers and have paid off porn stars for affairs after their wife just gave birth. Also, I can’t remember the last President who led chants to lock up their political opponents. But I’d wager to say the next one who does will have equal scrutiny.

Not nearly as big a threat as having a president who is compromised, even beholden, by/to a foreign power who just successfully helped said president get elected.

I know it's hard for people to grasp or accept, but the CIA and FBI has reason to think that this is a very real possibility. It's not a witch hunt. Truth is always stranger than fiction.

If all that is ever discovered is illicit campaign payments and obstruction of justice, you'll have a point and our political system will have set a precedent that will problematic moving forward. But if there is really a conspiracy in play and we failed to do anything about it, we'll have a much bigger problem.

There's just too much smoke to ignore it, though.

What crime did he commit? Russian collusion? Hasn't been a shred of actual evidence he tried to work with Russians to impact the election. There were meetings, but not enough to prove he tried to manipulate the election. Next, the campaign finance stuff. Again, unless Trump specifically knew they were paying with campaign funds, I think he's safe.

I don't disagree with anything you said about him personally other than Obama started this division and Trump has continued it and accelerated it even from what Obama did. Sad part is, I like his policies and the job he's doing. I just don't like the person or most of what he says.

That's what people have been saying for two years now. It's hard to take any of that seriously when his whole administration, cabinet and everything White House related leaks like a sieve.

I think your post is fair, though. You're just closer to thinking he's guilty than I am. I want to see actual evidence of collusion and nothing I've seen so far leads me to believe that was the case. Nothing he's done leads me to believe he's beholden to Russia or anyone for that matter. And I really believe that if there were financial ties to Russia, Mueller would have them and the investigation would be over. That is likely one of the first places he went looking. I don't think they would drag this out, for no reason if they had evidence of a real conspiracy which is a huge threat like you mentioned.

Cohen already said that Trump knew about the Trump Tower meeting before it took place.

He also said that he personally paid a tech company $50,000 on behalf of Trump to hack Hillary/DNC.

These are spelled out in his court documents.

That seems like a pretty good start to proving collusion.

I think this investigation may find a lot less russian collusion than they wanted, but it might have unearthed other dirt. They flip enough guys it could really bite DT in the ass. You'd have to have some extremely loyal insiders to ride this one out and Im not sure Trump treated people well enough to have them cover his ass. Whats crazy is a guy would act in the manner he has with crazy crazy crazy ass skeletons in his closet. Why would you even run for POTUS. Hell I couldn't just for the stories my friends could tell people about growing up lol.

That’s what baffles me. We’ve never had a president like this. I mean, it was bad enough that our intelligence agencies got warrants from FISA courts to look into people involved with his campaign. No, no other president has faced this, but why would they? There isn’t some rule in the world where everyone is treated equally, no matter if they deserve it or not. The people who yell and scream most about how bad participation medals are are the same ones who insist that everyone has to be treated equally.

The head-in-the-sand stuff over Trump is mind blowing. I mean, look at meblues response to my post on the last page, comparing the Trump/Russia stuff with the Obama secret Muslim stuff. It is a literal ignoring of the world. It’s amazing.

Trump's a dinosaur tech wise. He doesn't use email or text and he's street savvy enough to know how to not document criminal activity, so hard evidence is going to be elusive for prosecutors. Plus, you factor in the protections of the executive branch, and it's the likely the most complicated investigation ever. It's going to take time.

Many people with connections to Trump has said that he never really intended to win. Have you read the insider stories about how the Trump campaign reacted on election night? It’s pretty eye opening. The vast majority of them thought it wasn’t possible. He was just doing it for the fun and exposure of doing it.

We'll know when the report comes out... What we do know is there was a payment to The Enquirer, the reimbursement of the payment by Cohen, was accomplished through his campaign expense report. And it's on tape with Trump's approval to initiate the payment.

That's pretty damning by itself. Even if Trump doesn't get impeached, I'll guarantee he'll do jail time for some wrong doing. Once he's out of office he's fair game. If that occurs it'll do more damage to the republican party than impeachment would.

Knowing about the Trump Tower meeting, in an of itself, doesn't mean a hill of beans in my opinion. And unless Trump is on tape knowing about the payment to hack Hillary and the DNC, I don't think that's really an issue either. To me, this all has to have Trump on tape ordering this stuff. And like I've said about the payments to the porn star, unless he directed Cohen to use campaign funds, I think that one is on Cohen, not Trump. Nothing in that Cohen case, to me, shows any real evidence of collusion with Russians.

I know it's hard for people to grasp or accept, but the CIA and FBI has reason to think that this is a very real possibility. It's not a witch hunt.

This is the part that always escapes me. At some point, as an average joe, don’t people say to themselves “Well, people who actually do this, for real, for a living, who dedicate their lives to it, thought this was a possibility. So that means it isn’t likely to be completely out of nowhere.”

It shows incredible hubris to close your eyes and ears and yell “Witch hunt!”

Oh, I’m not sure he would do jail time for that. He is rich and white.

Totally agree. I just don't think they're going to find anything related to Russia or this campaign finance stuff that leads to impeachment or any charges for Trump.

To me, there is a BIG difference between authorizing a payment to pay off a porn star and doing so using campaign funds to do so. Nothing wrong with paying her off as long as he used his money. I would venture to say that happens more than we know for politicians. Unless Trump is on tape agreeing to the use of campaign funds, it's a big nothing burger.
