***Official Transfer Thread***

Not sure where else to post. Mintz coming back to Kentucky. We might not be the most talented bunch in every contest, but we might be the deepest.

Washington
Mintz
Grady
Frederick
Wheeler
Allen
Toppin
Oscar
Ware
Brooks
Collins
Hopkins

Kofi Cockburn in the portal. Besides the elite name, gonna be a lot of people after him. Wonder where he ends up.

Kentucky seems like a good a guess as anyone. You guys are already deep, so might be difficult to make everyone happy to include one more body, especially after the news of Mintz returning. But, Chin Coleman and Orlando Antigua were both assistant coaches at Illinois last season. Would be dumb for them not to reach out to Kofi.

Tshiebwe and Cockburn are basically clones. If UK didn't already have Oscar I would say it was a possibility, but I doubt UK gets involved. I think Kentucky's roster is set unless they can land Duren (who is expected to reclass soon).

Yeah, thought about that. And it's certainly possible that they don't entertain another big body that doesn't offer much in the way of versatility. Just think it would be hard for two of his former coaches to not even consider reaching out to an All-American.

Maybe LSU is another strong possibility; he could reconnect with Adam Miller.

It probably depends on Duren. If UK thinks he's heading elsewhere they would probably take Cockburn in a heartbeat. I would love to have both Oscar and Cockburn. Of course they would never be on the court at the same time so each guy would be looking at 20 minutes a game. Good way to keep guys from getting into foul trouble, that's for sure.

I haven't been following Duren super closely. But, he has the G League and the New Zealand League listed as two of his final 11 options. I honestly don't know if I've ever seen anyone put a pro-league on their final options and end up in college. If he did end up at Kentucky, you guys should probably be preseason #1.

He is expected to reclass to 2021 any time now and just visited Memphis, Miami, and UK. Pretty sure he's announcing a top 5 tomorrow. I think most expect that to be Memphis, Miami, UK, NBL, and G League. Everyone expected him to go pro, but recently the buzz is that he wants to play in college. I am sure the NIL has something to do with that, as a guy of his caliber will have plenty of opportunities to cash in.

Oscar went to Kentucky because his people were saying it was hurting him playing with another big
Huggins doesn’t let anyone outside of the program tell him how to make roster decisions

Would be interesting to see what happens with Oscar this season

Oscar went to Kentucky because that's where he wanted to go all along. The only reason he went to WVU was because of his host family and other outside influences.

Those same people are the reason he is at Kentucky now as well.

They were trying to tell Huggins how to play Oscar.
Huggins pretty much said he would play Culver over him if he was going to play with 1 big

His WVU host family is the reason he's at UK now? That seems odd.
His AAU coaches are
The people who are the ones dictating a lot for Oscar
You said outside influences. Those same outside influences are why he left WVU
Huggins spend about a month going off about it.

All these players have different voices in their ear
Often times it comes into conflict with what the coach is trying to do

Some people wanted Huggins to give in. Why he made the point that he believed they were a better offensive team without Oscar

But the funny thing is…
Everyone knew that. This is why people were trying to tell him throwing two bigs on the court was hurting them

Ahh forgot you were an expert on a player on a team that has nothing to do with Texas too.

I don't know why he would give a shit what his AAU coaches think. He hasn't played AAU in 3 years. You are right though, too many players let these leeches dictate what happens with their careers well after they leave the prep circuit. Of course they were a better offensive team without him, but his ability to take up space and rebound can outweigh his offensive ineptitude in certain situations. In Kentucky's case, they will have plenty of scorers surrounding him.

Still upset about Marcus Carr😂

I listen to unbiased opinions. Not homers.
With that I get info about a bunch of different players.

Plus WVU is in the Big 12. For the longest time I was upset by them trying to force two bigs on the court as well
We didn’t have a tournament last year. So don’t know if they would have been a better team

I do know Lon Kruger abused them with those two bigs.

Hurts on defense as well. Especially when you play a team who stretches the floor

Mintz is a good player, and a dude I'm sure the entire locker room respects. That could arguably end up being the biggest off season news for this upcoming UK team.
So does he take the one scholly being saved for the duren kid, or since he was a senior i guess his scholly doesnt count towards the limit. Man i sure wish Carlik had the foresight to wait in the NIL stuff before declaring, bc he aint getting drafted. He prob woulda been our top grossing male player. Maybe Malik, hes been here forever and is a fan fave. DJ could have really killed being local, sorry im just on repeat at this point.

Honestly with the NLI stuff comi thru, theres really no reason a player shoukdnt be allowed to withdraw from the draft by the deadline date even if they hired an agent or have taken money already. Biased opinion of course 😂

??? Why would I care about Marcus Carr?

"Kentucky’s roster now sits at 12 scholarship players, though Mintz technically does not count against the team’s overall 13-man scholarship limit after the NCAA granted a blanket waiver this past season due to COVID-19 that gives student-athletes an additional year of eligibility, including grad transfers. So while there are 12 scholarships being used, there are still two spots remaining, should John Calipari decide to use them."

Will Kentucky Platoon this season like 15?
No.

I do think players will take themselves out when winded, and obviously Cal will take them out for missing assignments. Players will get minutes but it won't be near equal across the board.

This team is going to be interesting even for UK fans. We've not seen this much depth, older players, and shooting like this season.

I can't wait to watch a season where the opposing defense doesn't just pack the paint.

I don't have sources per se, but from what I'm hearing, Duren will likely end up at Memphis or G-league or NBL. First two a toss up and NBL a long shot.

If I was betting Cockburn is on the table due to Duren not committing on the spot.

I mean i dont see how cockburn and oscar can play on the floor together.

Plus ive read the five star big collins isnt a stretch big as well. Thats why i wondered about the likelihood of duren kid coming in behind and sharing pt with OT. All the visits always go “great”

What interest me the most is the number of PFs on the roster. I know uk fans have talked about cal going positionless basketball but that wont work unless all 5 guys can handle the ball and guard all five positions. Id guess that brooks starts at the 4 and toppin at the 3, OT at the 5. No clue on the guards, mintz probly starts, i havent seen any of the rest except allen, who also could play some 3 i guess. No clue whay to expect from the rest of the guards.

Id be weary after mintz decided to come back of one reentering the portal before july 7. I know luke McCaffrey did that to our football team. Transfered in from nebraska, figured out he wasnt gonna start, transferred to rice 😂. I dont see how theres enough mins for all the guards nor PFs but thats a damn good problem to have.

I wish hed take a look at us and then we can let malik back up the 4 and the 5 and have him on a mins restriction. Onv adding a player of his caliber would help anyone, but id say it def vault us into the top 25 imo.

They won't play at the same time.

The deadline to inform schools of intent to transfer is today.

They can play on the floor together and will at times. Oscar is perfect for the 4 spot. Don’t think he’s a tall enough 5.

They are basically clones of each other, although Cockburn is taller and bigger. Neither has much of an offensive skillset either. It's offensive boards and put-backs or lob dunks. I don't see any scenario in which Oscar is a 4 at UK. A center doesn't need to be 7'0" when he can box out 12 people at once like Oscar (and he has a massive wingspan).
