*Official* B1G Off-season Thread

To be fair you don’t know Purdue has an offensive problem either. You’re guessing the same way we are guessing, just have to find out.
Agreed. My prediction is based on what I have seen. Yours are based on what you project the development will be. Either could happen.

That's just one of the reasons they are going to struggle to score. We know Nojel cant score. Haarms I would guess is around 8-9 ppg. I think EB is your 2nd best player. I think he averages around 11 and 7.

I just dont think you guys realize how good Haas actually was. He was basically an automatic bucket that also opened up wide open 3s for everyone on your team. Couple that with losing your 3 beat shooters, and looks to be a rebuild year. I could certainly be wrong, but I'm guessing a bubble team. Especially given the schedule you guys were given this year in the Big ten.
We know Nojel can't score? Are you confusing "shoot" and "score" here? Nojel has plenty of offensive skill outside of his shot. He's going to average 8-10 ppg this year, same as Haarms. Carsen will average 23-25. I'm guessing Cline will be about 10-12, same as Boudreaux. Then you have Hunter, Wheeler and Eifert at 4-6 ppg.

I’m not buying Edwards scoring that much

Nojel can score 1 foot away from the basket. Most of his points last year came on offensive rebounds. He isnt a threat from 3 or the free throw line. I can assure you that teams arent that concerned with his scoring.

23-25 seems awfully high for Carsen. I actually expect Carsen to average about what he did last year as far as ppg, but I think his assists will be way up. He is your best PG.

Yeah they won't be concerned, doesn't mean he won't score 8-10 points a night, off drives, postups, transition, offensive rebounds.

87ppg seems a bit optimistic :)

I wasn't able to pop my head in here for a few days, so even though its late....congratulations to all the Purdue fans here! I was actually really pulling for you all and actually got excited throughout the game. I hate Ohio state so much more than Purdue because my brother lives in Columbus and is so damn annoying. Actually, the only team I hate more is Kentucky.

But anyways, you all have a player in the kid from Louisville! There isn't many times when Ohio state is on the field that they don't have the best player. But that night, that kid was hands down the best player and fun to watch!

CE certainly is good enough to average 25 ppg, but imo if he does, it means you all had a really bad year! It will mean that there were a bunch of games where everything was placed on his shoulders and he had to score 30. I can't think of too many great/good teams that had a player average 25 over a season. Personally, I think for you all to reach your ceiling, it will mean that CE only averages 17 to 19 ppg. That will mean there were other players who stepped up their scoring and he didn't have to do everything.

Kemba Walker won the national title and averaged 23.5 per game with a 47% overall eFG% while shooting 33% from 3 and had a 32.5% USG rate.
He took 18 shots per game while playing 37.5 min per game.

Last season Carsen averaged 18.5 per game with a 55%eFG, shooting 41% from 3 with a 30% USG rate. He took 13.5 shots per game while playing 29.5 min per game. If Carsen ups his fg attempts to Kemba level which I don’t think would be crazy, he could easily average 22+ a game and not hurt his team.

Do you expect anyone outside of Edwards to make any All B10 teams?
Cline, Eastern, Haarms all have a shot yes.

But as Otte said, Mathias didn’t even make an All-Big Ten team last year. So is that really a good indicator of complimentary talent?

If Carsen avgs 23-25/game Purdue will be lucky to finish .500 and I’d imagine painter wouldn’t be happy.

Cline? Lol
Painter or this coaching staff doesn’t usually publicly pump up players, but they’ve doing it all off-season with Cline. Saying he’s going to have a great season this year. And he’s been putting up good numbers in these intra-squad scrimmages. I’ll take a wait & see approach with it, but I tend to trust the eye of the coach going into his 15th year, rather than NC_Trojan.

Every team does this, every year. We heard good things about several players on Purdue and IU specifically that haven’t planned out. Hell, we were hearing good things about Tom Pritchard in the off season one year. Y’all do the same thing each year. Cline doesn’t even have a punchers chance to make an All B10 team. I’d argue unless Eastern learned to shoot, the only team he can hope for is defense. Haarms has potential, but I would doubt he makes a team outside of defense.

And the team last year was extremely experienced and well balanced. This years team won’t be. Big difference.

He also had a really good team around him as well. IIRC they had a couple top 25/50 type guys. Purdue doesn’t. It’s going to be stop or limit Carsen, beat Purdue.

You sure didnt take the wait and see approach when suggesting Cline could make an all big ten team haha. Like he has his entire career, he will have games where he scores 10ish points and games where he scores zero. I'm guessing he averages around 7-8.

No kidding. He is not going to be as efficient of a scorer this season. That team was really well-balanced to where you couldn't just focus on Edwards. This team, not nearly as much. He already attempted ~14 fg per game which was a quarter of the team's attempts. I don't see this offense speeding up this season, I don't see it being more efficient, and I don't see him taking 3 more shots per game.

He could. Yes. He has a “shot” just like a lot of others players do. Dakota Mathias had a shot last year and didn’t make it yet was a super productive player for Purdue.

Why you’re using the All Big Ten benchmark as an indicator of a teams success is odd to say the least.

In that case IU’s team won’t be that good either because Morgan will be the only player close to being on an All Big Ten team this year.

How many years in a row do you have to do this with Purdue players for it backfire in your face? Did it the year after Hammons left. Said Biggie wouldn't improve that much and the supporting cast wasn't great.

Did it last year when Biggie left. Said that since Biggie was gone, Edwards and Edwards would get all the attention and wouldn't be able to produce. And that Haas won't be able to be as effective without him. Yet they win a school record number of games and have a good season.

You're not very good at this. At least when it concerns Purdue.

Uh, Romeo will absolutely have a legit chance to be on an All B10 not just the freshman team. He’s a top five recruit.

Who the fck does IU have that’s

Exactly, who the hell does IU that is proven in college basketball? They sucked last year, so going by that argument, they’ll suck this year too.

Well for starters, young stoney isnt half the player Mathias was.

With your last statement are saying that Romeo Langford is not capable of making the All Big Ten Freshman team? That would certainly be a classic take if you are...

Ok so now Freshman teams count? OK then Eastern and Haarms will make All Big Ten defense then. So in this instance Purdue > IU.

And give me experience in college basketball over the freshman sensation every damn time.

Blaire, you’re the last one to criticize someone on their projections. Last year I pegged IU too low and Purdue was right on. I just missed the offensive efficiency and how much of a jump Carsen would make. Sooooooo. I absolutely projected Purdue correctly last year in the B10 and the tournament. Pretty spot on, really.

This year is different as well. I’m more likely to be right than wrong. You have a bunch of role players that have never been relied upon to produce nor have they shown they can have the ability to take over a game if Edwards doesn’t have a good game. Could I be wrong? Sure. But I think it’s clear most here think there are WAY more doubt with players not named Edwards.

Again, not saying Purdue is gonna be a bottom half of the B10 team. But 5th/6th is definitely a real possibility. Way more of a possibility than fourth or higher.

I'm still laughing at Carsen avg 25 pts/game. Do you not understand how many double teams he's going to have to fight through?

Tell me how you realistically, can double team ONE GUY throughout the course of a college basketball game. I'd love to see it. You really think that's a viable strategy?

Yup. But the very poor mans Mathias and Stan Robinson 2.0 Eastern are going to be such threats on offense opponents won’t be able to leave alone ever.

Do you honestly think Edwards won’t be the only focus of a teams denfensice game plan? He’s going to be the main focus of every single team you play. You literally have no player that has shown they have the capability of taking over of Edwards gets slowed/shut down.

You've done it the past two years down playing Purdue's season.

Did it the year after Hammons left. Said Biggie wouldn't improve that much and the supporting cast wasn't great.

We do this every year. Everyone here knows you're the IU die-hard who can't look at their rival objectively.

Go look at where I said they would finish in the B10 and what their ceiling was in the tournament. Yup. Nailed it.

I mean, you tried. Failed but at least you tried. You suck at this Blaire.
