*Official* B1G Off-season Thread

Michigan got 2020 commit Zeb Jackson, as most assumed. Good player, top 100 guy, don’t know a ton but hopefully UM fans can enlighten me.

Didn’t think MSU had a real shot for this one, as we are going much harder for another PG, Jalen Terry (top 50 guy).

Don’t know much about him other than that he will probably end up pretty good

He looks like a left handed Darius Morris from his highlights.

Big point guard, average athlete, ok shooter, can poke around to find a 12 foot shot, good finisher at the rim, above average passing ability.

Morris was a lower end top 100 kid. About a month ago someone mentioned Jackson might end up top 50 in 247.

Simpson and DDJ the next two years, then Jackson will probably backup DDJ as a freshman when Simpson leaves. Ideal point guard setup, similar to where MSU stands pending a 2020 commit.

Sweet

Except I’m pretty sure Jackson is a better shooter than Morris. Morris shot moonballs.

Do you know which height is accurate? One site has him a few 5’10 and the other 6’3.

About to ask the same thing. His height is extremely inconsistent (aren’t heights always)

He looks to me about 6'2". Kid can get up and dunk relatively easy, but it doesn't look like he is soaring, rather doing it with length.

He looks like a better shooter than Morris, not as dynamic as a passer, but within the ballpark of each other in those regards.

Purdue in the AP top 25? Not seeing it this year.
I wouldn’t put them in the top 25 until unproven players actually prove it on the court but think they certainly can be if they get enough offense from guys not named Carsen. Pretty confident the defense will be the best it has been in awhile though so I’m not worried about that end of the floor.

Yeah, they didn't replace that core. Not going to be nearly that good. Not bad, but not top 25.

I think it will take a little while to gel and we have a tough stretch early in the year ( @FSU, @Michigan, Maryland, @Texas, ND in Indy). I’m expecting some early losses.

I think Matt Painter deserves the benefit of the doubt when it comes to this pre-season ranking.

He lost a lot but he’s clearly been in a groove with developing talent for the past 4 years. That’s what these pre-season rankings are based on. That and returning players. And when you return a consensus 1st AA, and are known for getting the most out of his guys, I think you have to put this team in the top 25.

I was shocked when I saw that. I thought that a few weeks in it would be possible to be in the 20-25 range if the new starters can complement Carsen well, but didn’t think any chance at top 25 preseason ranking.
Where the offense coming from? Carsen is good, but

Cline, Boudreaux, Haarms, Eastern, Wheeler. It’ll take some time to gel like others have suggested. But let’s not act like this roster doesn’t have talent.

I’d throw Hunter in there too. Think he’ll average at least a handful with a few games in the double digits.

Compared to other B10 teams, it’s nothing to write home about especially given their lack of experience and production. Lots of question marks.

I dont have a problem with them in the Top 25. I’d put them in the 20-40 range throughout the year.

If carsen wasn't on this team we most definitely wouldn't deserve to be top 25. But carsen coupled with our returnees and i think that our ranking is fair.

Lack of experience & production because they were playing behind really really really good players the last couple years. It isn’t a guarantee of course, but it’s not like they weren’t producing because they aren’t talented.

Wheeler didnt produce last year.

Well he redshirted so....
Exactly. Hard to rely on a guy for big production when he wasnt good enough to play on the team last season. Before you use the Blah Blah Blah he had great talent in front of him Blah Blah Blah, he wasnt good enough to beat out Eifert for minutes. And this season it appears both EB and Wheeler cant beat out Eifert for the starting spot.

Who said anything about big production? Anything Wheeler provides is gravy. Also it sounds like EB’s been really good but Painter just feels like he belongs at the 5 right now. In their last scrimmage they had Haarms as the 4 and EB as the 5 even, in one scrimmage anyway.

Do you expect anyone outside of Edwards to make any All B10 teams?

why do you continuously rehash this same subject lol

Not even Mathias was 1st, 2nd, or 3 All big ten last season (which is silly) so that’s really hard to expect anyone to. I will predict one of, if not both Haarms and Eastern will be on the all-defensive team. Think Haarms has the best chance to crack an all big ten team if he is more assertive on offense this season and remains efficient.

I could see Haarms or Boudreaux sneaking on 3rd team if they have solid years. When Purdue won Big Ten in 2017, Swanigan was the only Purdue player an All B10 team (media had Vince on 3rd team but not coaches) and he was Player of the Year, just like Edwards is expected to be. I don't think Purdue is going to win league, my point is you can have success with a superstar and other complementary players

More like the 40-50 range.

Top 10 team last year who only returns about 40% production, didn't have any future breakout stars on the team last year and is bringing in only one kid (Boudreax) who would get 15+ minutes a game for any other random NCAA tournament caliber club.

Torvik has this one about right at 44.

I think EB is the most likely besides Carsen.

Because you guys continually rehash that you dont have an offensive problem... lol
you keep bringing up the fact that aaron wheeler didn't play last season to prove your point that Purdue's going to struggle to score? That's bizarre. Of course Purdue's going to struggle to score, at least early on when new players are learning new roles.

That's just one of the reasons they are going to struggle to score. We know Nojel cant score. Haarms I would guess is around 8-9 ppg. I think EB is your 2nd best player. I think he averages around 11 and 7.

I just dont think you guys realize how good Haas actually was. He was basically an automatic bucket that also opened up wide open 3s for everyone on your team. Couple that with losing your 3 beat shooters, and looks to be a rebuild year. I could certainly be wrong, but I'm guessing a bubble team. Especially given the schedule you guys were given this year in the Big ten.
