*Official* B1G Off-season Thread

Maybe to an irrational fan like yourself it might be damming. I think Painter’s services would be coveted and Purdue would be mocked by CBB media if they let Painter go.

Sure, Painter is an average coach at an average program. Solid fit.

That doesn't make it any less damning to not win a single Sweet 16 game in 14 years at the program.

You have an interesting definition for “average program.” Most B1G titles and top 20 all-time in wins. If that’s average then there are a ton of programs worse than Purdue.

You'd think fans of such an elite program would expect more postseason success from their coach.....

Ok? And what am I (a fan) supposed to do if I’m not content? Whine and bitch on a sports message board? Will that make my team better?

Not being a bunch of gilligan's would be better for the forum, yes. I don't care if it makes your team better.

Remember how Gill use to forgive Fran for everything shitty Iowa did? That's how you Purdue fans come off when it comes to Painter's dogshit postseason history. If that makes you proud, then keep it up.

IU was mocked for letting a clown go. Screw the CBB media

Edit: I am not saying Purdue should fire Painter just saying about ridiculous CBB media

There is/was a stark contrast in results between Iowa & Purdue the last 3 years.

One guy is winning 30 games and a Big Ten title, the other is anchoring a team at the bottom of the conference standings and missing the NCAAT.

You see the difference?

IU was justified in firing Crean. This I think most fans would agree.

From the awkward clown antics, to the roller coaster results from season to season with top shelf recruits... the list goes on.

Painter, aside from two seasons, has been pretty damn consistent. It’d be silly to cut loose a guy who’s won a lot of games and represents the university in a positive light even though tourney success has allued him.

Threw an edit in there

I didn't see they were apples to apples.

I'm saying Purdue fans and their inability to call out Painter's lack of postseason success is eerily similar to Gilligan's inability to call out Fran's lack of any sort of success.

He lost Hummel before the season started in 2011; Srill returned Johnson and Moore; Both preseason All-Americans. Plus Lewjack and Barlow(though suspended before NCAA). Johnson was the BPOY and co-defensive POY. I mean he had two All-Americans; Johnson 1st team, Moore 3rd team(NABC). And still lost by 20 to VCU.
Losing Hummel hurt. But you lost him in October----Not Feb. But even then, Painter still had 2 studs. And failed to get past the 1st weekend.

Year before, I can see. But 2011? Not really. He still had a great team. Just choked vs VCU.
I wasn't even referring to that season. Kelsey Barlow averaged 5 ppg that year and was a total headcase. In my post, I said 1 or 2 seed. Purdue was in line for a 1 seed when Hummel went down the first time, and they were a 2 last season.

This is true. A lot of coaches suddenly found success(tourney) after years of futility... Jay Wright is one. BUT...I mean he did go to the Elite 8 in year five....Final Four, four years later. I mean what is crazy is Wrights only been past the SW 16 , four times. BUT...he has done so.

I think Painters a fine coach. And who knows, had RH not gotten hurt, maybe he has his Elite 8/FF. Hell maybe even a title. Maybe if Haas stays healthy, he gets past the SW16. Who knows. But even then, he's had some good teams more than capable; 2011, and last years. He's lost with some solid teams early; 2016 loss to Little Rock. So even with the imjury bug, he's still had some pretty darn good teams fall quite short.

I knew that. Its why I said the previous season I could see. But not 2011.

Don't hurt yourself bending over backwards to make sure Painter doesn't get any blame.

I am OK with calling out painters lack of post-season success. He just does a lot of other things well, unlike Fran. So it’s hard for me to be up in arms about Painter when he’s a solid coach. Fran is simply a dog shit coach with very little redeeming qualities.

If it wasn't for hail there would be no michigan bball fans here. Literally no one gives a shit even if they are successful. Imagine if belein wasn't there, yikes.
