*Official* B1G Off-season Thread

After this season, Illinois is going to be on a 9 season streak of .500 or below in conference. Are they the only Power 5 program on such a run?
I'll take my 04-05 final 4 and those 8 seasons over not having sniffed a F4 in 40 years.

Laughing
Looking forward to doing this all over again next summer, after you go 5-15 in conference and several players transfer.

Doubt that happens. But, I'm fine with where we're at in our rebuild. Are you fine with having been to your peak?

after 10 years, it's not a rebuild, it's just kinda who you are, a doormat program in the big ten. yeah, im good with winning 30 games.

Lol you're not winning 30 games. What's it matter if you can't even leave the 2nd round on your best years? Doesn't.

i like to win games. we're making the tournament again this year while you guys will be finishing bottom 4 of conference yet again. sucks to suck.

Again, I'm aware we're rebuilding. Beating that drum does nothing to me.

Your roster is looking pretty average going forward. I think you're in store for more mediocre Matt years.

Funny watching Purdue continue to pull in these backup recruits after so much "success".

I can't speak for all Purdue fans but as for me, I care but I certainly don't obsess over it. I'm not going to completely dismiss a successful 30+ game season because my team lost a single game to what is typically a very good team in March.

Sure, on a year to year basis that’s understandable. Being content with an 18 year drought is odd, though.

Who said they were content? You might want to take a course on reading comprehension.

The way you guys troll the forum and pretend Purdue has been uber successful speaks for itself. If you weren’t content you have a weird way of showing it.

Again, can't speak for others but content is certainly not a word I would ever use for that.

How would a fan on a message board display being malcontent accurately? Just so I’m aware...

What teams have lost a 15 ppg scorer during the season and made the final four? I can't imagine very many at all, and I doubt very many projected 1 or 2 seeds have lost a player of that caliber during the tournament or late February. His best teams have been derailed by injury.
He lost Hummel before the season started in 2011; Srill returned Johnson and Moore; Both preseason All-Americans. Plus Lewjack and Barlow(though suspended before NCAA). Johnson was the BPOY and co-defensive POY. I mean he had two All-Americans; Johnson 1st team, Moore 3rd team(NABC). And still lost by 20 to VCU.
Losing Hummel hurt. But you lost him in October----Not Feb. But even then, Painter still had 2 studs. And failed to get past the 1st weekend.

Year before, I can see. But 2011? Not really. He still had a great team. Just choked vs VCU.

Borden is in the midst of one of his signature blowups (normally it’s a meltdown), teaming up with his buddies who call people ***s and make fun of dead women.

jfc guys
Huh? Meltdown? Blowup? Ummm, no. I'm just toying with your resident, village idiot, JohHoosier. And at the same time, dropping the truth on your asses. If that hurts your feeelings---I'm sorry. Well, not really. You guys are fun to make fun of. Easy to.Laughing

You're trying to reason with a fanbase that still thinks Northwestern is a good football team.

Partly. Sure. I don’t think you can judge a coach wholisticly based off a single elimination tournament. But sure, “terrible” post-season results hold him back. I agree.

Not on a per year basis, but in a 14 year sample size it’s pretty damning. You’re getting there though.

Maybe to an irrational fan like yourself it might be damming. I think Painter’s services would be coveted and Purdue would be mocked by CBB media if they let Painter go.

Sure, Painter is an average coach at an average program. Solid fit.

That doesn't make it any less damning to not win a single Sweet 16 game in 14 years at the program.
