Are you referring to the "Franklin to Purdue, Newman to IU" word that was going around before Franklin committed to IU?

Some but also just today read Newman would at least take the Xavier visit. Like I have said before I enjoy following and discussing recruiting but no one knows exactly what some of these kids will do. Nothing is gospel.

That might be a situation of just getting differing information from different sources. Everything we heard was that Xavier and Newman had mutual interest but that Bishop's commitment really hurt them. He also stated that distance was a factor (Cincy being 4.5 hrs rather than 1.5 from Purdue). Also heard that rescheduling his official was a bit of a sign, but didn't hear one way or another that he for sure would/wouldn't take the OV.

Obviously take recruiting info with a grain of salt, but Newman's commitment was rather predictable and I don't feel like it exemplifies a 'surprise' recruitment like Carton or Franklin where they picked someone completely different from the school that was perceived as the leader.

I agree. Basically, the only way he could have surprised us is if he had picked anyone but Purdue. Since they both received offers from IU, its always seemed like it was a forgone conclusion that both IU and Purdue would get 1 of them. Along the way, the process did have a few speed bumps and potholes, but even then, it was hard to imagine a different scenario. We never knew which one to what school, but it always seemed like this outcome was going to happen eventually.

Agreed and the end result wasn’t surprising by any means. This was just the timining after reading some other things just yesterday morning. Being a recruiting reporter would suck. All I was saying is that is why I just take it all in and take things with grains of salt. These are kids you just never know.

Just yesterday Josiah James was a lock to Clemson and he committed to Tennessee.

It's a tricky deal. In this case, I do think people may have read too much into what amounted to a kid taking some time during a stressful period in his life. I know a huge part of this was his family's comfort with Painter and some of the support staff within the AD, and obviously the dominoes falling worked in our favor.

Regardless of the how, this worked out really well for Purdue. He's really exactly what this roster needed -- a true 2 guard with a high ceiling. Painter appears to be putting together another really dangerous 3 pt shooting roster that is also more athletic than the guys we've had in the past. My guess is adding Newman should help with Hall as well, as we have a pretty nice roster for a guy like Hall to help complete. If we get Hall, I know the class won't be all world in terms of rankings...but seems like the type that Painter can really succeed with.

I asked if this was the year they’d finally break through and win a bowl game. Didn’t mention anything about Purdue lol.

4 of the 5 people liking Death’s overreaction to my post were Purdue fans. Didn’t realize I rustled y’all that bad.

Speaking of Seinfeld, I saw a stat recently ( can't find it now) that Paul O'Neil gets something like $252.00 every time Seinfeld is on the air. That is a lot of $252.00 checks.

That is what I figured. I assume he gets a cut of the Hulu deal as well. Guy isn't going broke but still quite a few checks every year.

You think they have a direct deposit setup or does he get an actual check? Would it even be worth going to the bank?

Good question. I’ll tell ya how we can test this, send me a check for $250 every so often and I’ll let you know if it was worth going to the bank each time or not.

Are you on Paul O'neill's level?
