*Official* B1G Off-season Thread

Turge is a better recruiter, but pure coaching they are about even, maybe slight mid to Fran.

Iowa was a 7 seed in the 2nd and 3rd NCAAT and played #2 seed Gonzaga, then #2 seed Villanova who won the NCAAT. funny how a coach of a 7 seed would lose to a #2 seed twice and gets trashed.

is that like seeing a pissing match between Indiana fans and Purdue fans. or maybe all this [well Carton is a lock for Michigan or he is a lock for Indiana]

or even a constant attacks on Fran and yet I have yet to see any Iowa fan including myself have never attacked any BT coach.

Fran has told him to take all his visits, just Like KF in FB take all your visits before committing, its a long time till the Nov signing period. even Patrick and Wieskamp are encouraging him to enjoy the recruiting trips to see what is out there before committing, this is a no pressure recruiting of Carton by Iowa.

Iowa probably should have put more pressure on Carton.

Lord knows he was never going to Iowa.

Carton was the number 1 target but not the #1 PG target, also Carton moved to Iowa because of the Hurricane that leveled New Orleans. he was/is not a native Iowan and had no loyalty to Iowa or ISU. so it was not just Fran that missed on Carton.

to me in every interview he was way to much into about what coaches can do for him and never about what he can do for the team he would choose. maybe Holtman of OSU can work with this kid or maybe he can't. time will tell.

Fran has just 2 Scholarships to give and Patrick has 1 already so Fran can be very choosy to he recruits. remember Fran only loses just 1 player this year.

Wagner is playing FB and was not a major player
Ellingson has transferred to instate Drake and he too was not a major player
and neither were good at defense or offense, this is a case of improvement by substraction.

with 6 JR's 2 SO and 1 RSFR/2 FR. this team is/has just improved. plus the best thing is the rotation as already been reduced, also if Fredrick RS's there will only be 11 players.

with these 2 getting minutes in case of injuries or fouls.
JR Pemsl
JR Kriener

Fran goes into this season a solid 2 deep at each positions
PG JR Bohannon backup RSFR Connor
that means no more having Ellingson or Dailey at the point where they should not have played
SG RSJR Moss backup Dailey his more natural position and can play the SF
SF FR Wieskamp backup RSSR Baer able to be the teams 6th man again and if he returns to his RSSO season where he was named the BT's 6th MOY, this will make Iowa more dangerous
PF JR Cook backup Pemsl
C SO Garza backup SO Nunge who should not have played the SF because of injuries,
Kriener, Pemsl and Fredrick will get minutes in blowouts, injuries or foul trouble.

I missed you
it does add up Carton was the best available player that Fran wanted, now he is going after the best available player again, like I said Fran only loses 1 player this season in former walk on Baer.

when you lose a former walk on you can afford to go after the best player available no matter what position he plays.

the 2020 class will have 6 at most and 5 to fill. then Fran can go after specific position players. players that Fran loses
PG Bohannon
SG Moss
G/F Dailey
F Pemsl
F Kriener
F Cook although Cook may go pro after his JR year. some are projecting to be #54 in the 2019 draft.

the projection also included that if Iowa finishes better and Cook gets more aggressive on scoring and rebounding a 1st round pick is not out of the question.

Cook did work out for 6 NBA teams when he was in the Pre Draft. so there was interest.

With the talents Iowa has at PG, DJ Carton would have to play at 2.
Is that not clear? :D
what's clear that he was playing on a bad foot and yet he recorded 170+ assist which was 2nd best in the BT Season. not to mention 80+ made 3's for the 2nd year in a row making him just the 1st PG to have back to back seasons of 170+ assists and 80+ made 3's in the last 25 years. not sure what more he has to do to be noted as a PG.

as of now he is in the top 10 in assists in Iowa's history and top 10 in made 3's in Iowa's history, he can move into 1st in made 3's this season and blow by the leader in assist in the 1st 10 games or less depending on how he does this season, he already has the highest assist per game of anybody in Iowa's history.

care to tell me more about how JBo is not a PG, even ESPN rated him a 4* PG, every recruiting service rated him as a PG. every coach that he has played him did so as A PG.

so please produce your credentials that proves that you can say as a absolute FACT that JBo is not a PG.

Funny how 2 of Wisconsin player state that JBo is a PG and is the best one of the 4 brothers, and yet you state that he is not a PG.

Reread what Bucky said

these were those talented players
unranked 3* Marble ended up 1st team all BT 2nd round NBA pick
unranked 3* White ended up 1st team all BT 2nd round NBA Pick
3* by Rivals and 4* by ESPN 1st team all BT 2nd team AA
Unranked 3* Jok 1st team All BT

then there was instate top 50 Woodbury along with 4* Gesell from Nebraska who has 4 year starter recorded the 3rd most wins in Iowa's history when they have had 4 year starters.

yeah I can really tell that Fran can't coach or develop players.Sick
Lol...And hasn't won shit. Hell at least Crean won 2 Big 10 titles. Iowa hasn't sniffed a Big 10 title in damn near 40 years.
Fran is very average. Crean 2.0 to be exact. And hell that's probably an insult to Crean.

I was just looking through Maryland's record since joining Big10. Maryland has beaten a total of three ranked Big10 teams. #3 Iowa and #18 Purdue in 2015 and #5 Wisconsin in 2014.

Since 2014 Iowa has Big10 regular season wins over #24 Maryland #17 Purdue and #22 Wisconsin in 2016.
#1 Michigan State, #14 Purdue, #4 Michigan State, #22 Purdue in 2015.
#20 OSU, #17 Maryland in 2014

So who really sucks? Turge or McCaffrey?
Um.....both?

Reread what Bucky said
I did but he said he had to play the 2, the only true PG if you want it that way, will be RSFR Connor and that's about it,.
FR Fredrick can play the 1-2-3 and talk is he may RS,
JR @ 6'7 Dailey is a 2-3 who was used as a PG because there was no one else.

just like 7' Nunge was used at the 3 because there really was no other option.
Baer started out by missing the 1st 6 games with a broken finger on his good hand something he never got over.

this will be the difference between last season and this on defense. to many players were playing new positions or better stated OUT of position.

even Moss was learning a new position as he was a SF in HS. then in his RSFR year he played SF while Jok played the SG position. now that he will start at the SG position for the 2nd year in a row he can just play and just go on shall we say instinct rather than trying to follow the drawing board point A to point B.

and crean had better access to 5* players.
Yogi rings a bell
Zeller is another one that rings a bell.
care to tell me where and when Fran had that type of talent.

About two weeks ago 58.6 miles from Iowa City.

You making an excuse that the family isn’t homegrown is ridiculous. Katrina was in 2005 Carton was 4 years old. He has been raised around nothing but Iowa

Carton didn't move to Iowa til his FR season in HS. ALSO Carton wasn't known till this summer when he blew up. if he had not got that 5th * noboby would have known nor cared. Fran was recruiting him long before the other teams got involved.

he got that 5th * and suddenly it was the schools with the name and everybody else turned into trash and were beneath him.

same thing happened with Uliss Fran was recruiting him and had offered him but after he started to blow up he got a attitude that only the best would be good enough for him and he went to Kentucky.

this is why Carton choosing OSU like he did makes no sense, what have they done? Michigan was just coming off a FF, OSU had a 1st year coach.
to me Michigan was the logical choice not OSU and not even Indiana.

Iowa has 2 PG and a CG, so that is a crowded positioin, even Dailey can play the point if needed. playing time was going to very crowded with 1JR, 1 RSFR and 1 FR.

the 2020 class is when Fran go after a top PG and right now it appears that Beard out of Whitney Young HS in Chicago is that player currently top 60 with his emphasis on defense will be a plus, not to mention the chance to compete for the starting job as JBo will graduate.

This summer eh? That’s why Indiana visited him during the winter and had him in for the IU/Purdue game in January

Didn’t read the rest of the ramble sorry

don't care because I know your ability to read is limited to grade school level.

again Carton was not that big a need for Fran no matter how many *'s he has.

When a state, who doesn’t produce five star talent all that often, produces that talent they are an important recruit for the state school no matter what.

The fact the kid never gave Iowa a shot is very telling.

This should provide some discussion points today. Purdue at 9 and Ethan Happ player of year will ruffle some feathers

actually he did vIsiting Iowa multiple time on his dime. watching the Saterday morning shirts and skins game before the home FB games, he also good friends with both McCaffery boys as well as Wieskamp. all three have been in his ear about joining them at Iowa, Fran attended every AAU game that Carton played in, during the dead period when Carton and Patrick were playing in the same event Fran was there as he was the father of Patrick,

Fran did everything legal to get him to commit to Iowa.

That his impact freshman from Purdue is the one most likely to redshirt speaks volumes about Rothstein's knowledge of the Big Ten. He's a guy that knows a little about a lot but not a lot about any one thing.
