*Official* B1G Off-season Thread

That his impact freshman from Purdue is the one most likely to redshirt speaks volumes about Rothstein's knowledge of the Big Ten. He's a guy that knows a little about a lot but not a lot about any one thing.

Agreed and the lack of Top 50 recruit Jerome Hunter.

I wouldn't even give him that much credit. I used to give him a follow during the off season, but can't even do that anymore. Saw his freshman post pop up on the feed, and figured he posted the rest of his lists.

Guarantee he just looked at Purdue’s recruiting class on Espn and saw Dowuona was rated the highest on there.

Carton didn't move to Iowa til his FR season in HS. ALSO Carton wasn't known till this summer when he blew up. if he had not got that 5th * noboby would have known nor cared. Fran was recruiting him long before the other teams got involved.

he got that 5th * and suddenly it was the schools with the name and everybody else turned into trash and were beneath him.

same thing happened with Uliss Fran was recruiting him and had offered him but after he started to blow up he got a attitude that only the best would be good enough for him and he went to Kentucky.

this is why Carton choosing OSU like he did makes no sense, what have they done? Michigan was just coming off a FF, OSU had a 1st year coach.
to me Michigan was the logical choice not OSU and not even Indiana.

Iowa has 2 PG and a CG, so that is a crowded positioin, even Dailey can play the point if needed. playing time was going to very crowded with 1JR, 1 RSFR and 1 FR.

the 2020 class is when Fran go after a top PG and right now it appears that Beard out of Whitney Young HS in Chicago is that player currently top 60 with his emphasis on defense will be a plus, not to mention the chance to compete for the starting job as JBo will graduate.

So to defend my Buckeyes a little (Carton choosing OSU makes no sense and What have they done?) OSU had an amazing season with a new and proven winning coach. They actually do have an excellent basketball history. This year will be a struggle, but hopefully it’s one of those “better beat them this year” type of seasons cause the year after they are loaded. So the future looks a lot brighter for OSU basketball.

Same for the 3 he listed for MSU. Bingham is barely 200lbs at 6'11", and will be behind 3+ players at the 4/5 spots. Gabe Brown is super skinny as well. Loyer is tiny.

Almost every MSU writer thinks Aaron Henry will be the most likely to play / have an impact this coming season, yet not even listed.

When a state, who doesn’t produce five star talent all that often, produces that talent they are an important recruit for the state school no matter what.

The fact the kid never gave Iowa a shot is very telling.
not all 5* players are a must get nor are they make or break players.

these make up the guard spots
JR JBo, RSFR Connor, RSJR Moss, JR Dailey, FR Fredrick and FR Wieskamp, That makes 6 players that can play the PG and SG positions, Carton saw that and wanted no part of that situation.

on one site Carton was/is not even considered the best PG in the state, Locure is/was their favorite.

here were their season ending stats
Locure 28.1 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 3.91 spg, 6.91 apg, 3.45 TO's per game.
Carton 23.6 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.63 spg, 3.36 apg, 3.15 TO's per game
both are 5'10 .5" in their bare feet
Locure was named the State championships POY

to me a 3.36 assist to 3.15 TO's per games does not scream 5* must get player. Iowa had enough trouble with TO's to go out and get a player that avg'd over 3 TO's per game.

you sure like to lie about a kids interests. and Fran did everything but cheat to get Carton like I said once he got that 5th * he felt that he was to good to play for Iowa and went to a school with the name.

if Duke, Kansas or Kentucky had offered or still might offer it would not surprise me if he flipped to one of those schools just like Ulis.

heck even MSU didn't offer.

Iowa sucks balls. No need to discuss. Maybe find a Rutgers fan and y'all can talk about how shitty your programs are.

I do not lie like yourself.

So IU, Michigan and Ohio State cheated?

Carton was a potential backup plan for Duke (Cole Anthony). Bill Self tried to get Carton to wait to make a decision and it didn't work. UK has 19 PGs currently. MSU tried to get in and were denied. Carton was ready to shut down the process.

MSU never once tried to get in. At all. I pay pretty close attention to recruiting and the first time I heard his name was on this board. We were not going after him.

You don't know what calls were made and honestly neither do I, but it was brought up that MSU tried to start recruiting him and were told thanks, but no thanks because he was shutting it down.

I have heard literally nothing about this kid and don’t really know where you are getting that info from. We have quite a few guard targets right now. He would be a plan B guy for us. But again, never mentioned once by any insiders.

Its not that big of a deal. It came from a couple of people on our board, that there was at least a call or some contact made by MSU. Doesn't mean they were recruiting him. Just some talk that they tried to get in and couldn't.

Schools call/contact tons and tons of recruits that we probably have no idea about because it never gets serious.

Possibly. Didn’t really make sense for either side though (with Cassius being a Senior and he can only really play PG), so it makes sense it didn’t go anywhere.

This is pretty funny. But also, how hard would it have been for the cops to ask him if he was able to order a ride on his phone and stand with him for the 5 minute wait for the car to get there?

I thought the same. Would have been really easy to avoid the paperwork and let the kid get a ride. Maybe since it was the summertime and nothing going on the cop said screw it. If that is the whole story it is pretty weak.

They do that, I will drop there azz so fast.......

Only reason I have cable tv is for sports. Usually these things work themselves out though. I'll have to start researching the various alternatives like Youtube TV, PS Vue etc.

I am a big proponent of PSVue I made the switch and will never look back. I added the sports package during football season and it was a simple cancel after to save 10 bucks a month. I pay $45.00 100 mbps for my internet through Spectrum and $45.00 for PSVue. $55.00 during football season.

Lots of people enjoy YouTubeTV but Reno is one of the few remaining markets where it isn't available. One issue I know people have with doing this through Comcast is that data usage limit. Spectrum doesn't have any data usage limits, but like the old cell phone days Comcast charges a lot once you go over your limit.

I have YouTube TV and I prefer it to DirecTV which I previously had.

Still stuck with Comcast for internet, though. Which sucks. Not a lot of options here in Denver. CenturyLink is the only ISP competitor, but they only offer DSL in my area (which is like 6mb/s bullshit).

There is Spectrum and Uverse here. Uverse is hogwash. I am looking forward to my battle with Spectrum when they try to raise my bill.

Yeah, the lack of internet competition sucks. I live in the northern burbs of Minneapolis, in a city of 70,000, and we basically have two options. CenturyLink DSL and Comcast Cable. If I drop the tv package I am pretty sure they jack up the price of standalone internet, so I probably wont save much if any. And like you said, they have a data cap, so I would have to be careful about going over that. I don't watch very many regular tv shows on cable though, so I don't think I would have problem with that.

Good Afternoon my disciples of the Big Ten on this blessed day and welcome to our new follower @PCPrincipal . Here is a nugget of wisdom from Daniel 6:26-27

26 “I issue a decree that in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the God known as Fran McCaffery. “For he is the living God and he endures forever; his kingdom will not be destroyed even though he teaches no defense, his dominion will never end. 27 He rescues and he saves; he performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has rescued Iowa from the power of the lions.”

The word of the lord.

Have a blessed week.

also if @Kevin Bryan could unlock my posting privileges that would be most divine.

We'd had no discussions about Carton on our board, ever. And Kansas has a decently active board, esp when the goobs get to goob over possible recruits.

That's how I feel when he talks Bill asking him to wait..
Wait for what?
Kansas has
5* 6'1 Dotson
4* 5'10 Moore and
4* 6-5 Garrett
For the next 2-3 seasons
With a sub 6' Jacobs coming in 2020.

I guess it's always nice to have another point guard? Not one peep, tho.. sounds like gossip iyam.

Google Bill Self DJ Carton. "Kansas head coach Bill Self has remained in contact with and recruited Carton since coaching him at the U18 National Team Trials." Just because you didn't have discussions on your board doesn't mean Self and Carton weren't talking.

Just at the end of the June he discusses having conversations with Self. Bill saw him at the USA training camp. DJ was already deep in his recruitment and Self was trying to get him to hold off a little longer on a decision. It wasn't like it got serious it was just a tidbit given to us.

Surprised that a metro area like Denver would be so limited.

Handful of options here in the Madison area, currently have Spectrum...but TDS fiber optic is spreading....neighborhood I used to live in actually has fiber optic up to 1 gb/s for around $100.00/mo.

Yea it sucks. I'm paying like $70/mo for 60mb/s speeds, with basic cable (that I've never even hooked up the cable box for - it was cheaper than getting internet-only) and HBO.

I called to try to get the intro rate again ($39.99) but they won't let me get it anymore. They offered me a different package that would save $5/mo, but I'd lose HBO. So it's actually cheaper to stay with the package I currently have, at least if I want to keep HBO.
