*Official* B1G Off-season Thread

I'll end tonight with this: I really like what this Indiana team could be. I do feel a ton of folks are sleeping on the Hoosiers. A really good class, with a nice returning core; led by BTPOY candidate Juwan Morgan, and possible FOY in the Langford. Feel like we shored up the pieces. Well, to an extent. A lot of "what if's" for sure. But a very solid, balanced roster. Should be a tremendous year. Going to be a lot of really good teams IMO. No clear cut fav; THough it could have been possibly MD had Hueter returned. Still look for the Terps to be in the mix, along with MSU, UM, Indiana ans Wisconsin. Iowa has the potential. But well, there is Fran. Purdue will in all likelihood have the POY. If Haarms and Cline can provide some support, and a couple of the frosh contribute, they could be a sleeper. Gonna be a fun year. Wish I could just sleep until fcking November.

Damn wish I could just sleep

Lol...I've said many times that I was referring to the Purdue board. But keep doing you because everytime you post, it just proves my point over and over.

Damn, it's so easy to trigger you all.

How about you take a deep breath and actually think before you post again. Because you're seriously coming off as an unstable person if asking a question bothers you so much. What do you do in real life when something happens that's actually worth being upset about?
Breaking news - home board overly optimistic. Damn son - you are an early favorite for the Geraldo Rivera award.

So, are you saying that everyone over there are just over passionate people who shouldn't be listened to? Because I've seen a few names of people who post over in that thread that also post here.

If I'm being honest, at first it actually bothered me that such a simple question got so many people so upset. Especially since I really was trying to make sure that it was worded in a way that wasn't aggressive. However, if such a simple question gets so many people triggered, its beyond funny now seeing everyone so worked up.

I actually wish it had been a troll post because based off of everyone's reaction, it would have been one of the most epic troll posts of all time.

honestly, you are the one that seems triggered bub

Conversely your hope that a much poorer shooter in Morgan gets better with more attempts goes s long way. I’m taking Cline as a better long ball shooter over Morgan all day every day.

Don’t disagree with that. I don’t think Morgan will see too many more attempts. Just hope he hits a few more when left open on the wing

Michigan won 59 games the past two seasons. Michigan won the B1G Tournament title in 2017 and in 2018. Michigan made the sweet 16 in 2017 and the National Championship game in 2018. Michigan looks to be really good again this year. Yes, Beilein has Michigan rolling.
Woah, woah, woah. We all know regular season wins don't matter (TIC)

Yes, he has been solid with his 1.2 made threes on 3.1 attempts and I am doubting he may or may not be as good with more minutes, attempts and a much worse roster around him on the floor.
Typically shooters get better with more attempts as they get into a rythym. I don't think Cline will be out there jacking shots so he won't be taking a bunch of bad ones that hurt his percentage IMO.

Having less talent around him is a valid reason for expecting him to shoot worse. I guess my biggest questions regarding Cline are: can he do better defensively and can he expand his game offensively? He is a very good 3 point shooter (regardless of what Borden thinks) and is a good passer. He hasn't developed much else in 3 years, so I'm not holding out too much hope but would enjoy being surprised.

Purdue.

The talking heads believe they will only fall off to cusp top 25.

Lose way too much and gain very little (none of the freshmen will matter, Dartmouth kid is good tho).

On paper the player roster is worse than Minnesota.

Maybe i missed it, but the main preseason polls that I’ve seen have mich, msu, Mary and sometimes iu in the top 25, with a couple mentioning Nebraska as barely in or on the cusp.

So it seems the talking heads have us 6th or worse and unranked. Tough to call that overrated imo

Pretty sure I’ve seen Purdue at 25 in most of ESPN’s preseason polls.

Hey @jwardelt, I see Ethan Happ is working on his jump shot again this offseason. Do you think it will work this year? if it does, he will be hard to contain.

Please explain what makes you think Haarms is going to shoot 35% from 3. Cline will shoot his worst percentage from three with more attempts.

If you are depending on Hunter coming in to make shots...yikes
Hell, I’d say Hunter, Eastern and Haarms aren’t anywhere close to a lock to shoot 35% from 3pt range. Cline and Edwards are clearly there and I’d expect Edwards to be over 40% and possibly Cline as well. But the other three? Come on....

He's worked on it every year. I'm guessing he'll try a few more. Whether he's successful or not is a whole other story.

Cool story bro. I’ll take Morgan as a slightly worse 3pt shooter and SIGNIFICANTLY better player at literally everything else in the game of basketball than your spot up 3pt specialist in Cline who can’t play defense.

Thanks. I checked SI and CBS before posting. Mea culpa

It's the only one I've seen and thought it was odd they were in it everytime they updated it. I don't know worry about preseason rankings though, completely meaningless.

PU & IU fans - What are everyone’s thoughts on Franklin and Newman? Who gets who? Do we get either of them? Who’s better? Who fits better in which program?

I think Purdue gets one...not sure which and not sure which I would even want.

Newman is a better shooter. Franklin is a better ballhandler.

I think one of IU/PU gets Newman and Franklin goes to Xavier

The two players have opposite weekends on which is better. No way they go to the same school

Now we’re going to have to hear how Purdue fans thought Cline was better than Morgan in the off-season 5 months from now.
Haha...so true and so Snu. One mentions that Cline is probably a better three point shooter than Morgan in a discussion that is specifically talking about three point competency of Cline and Morgan. 5 years later Snu morphs it into Purdue fans (all of them) said Cline was second coming of Pistol Pete. Good ol’ Snu (or Jace his sock puppet).

Snu and Jace are not the same person

Caleb Swanigan wins the summer league championship. Can Purdue claim that championship too?

How many wins will ("your" team here) earn in the regular season?

Rank these teams in order how you expect them to finish in the B1G
Minnesota
Indiana
Purdue

Indiana - 24

I think Purdue will be slightly better than IU on the court but IU has an easier schedule.

18 for Minny? Hater...lol

For IU and PU, tough to call. I can see them being similar in total wins. I just don't know if that means 21 and 20 wins or something closer to what you have at 24 and 23. Speaking just for IU, I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm kind of in the wait and see stage for Archie. I think he's a good coach, now I need to see him beat some good, ranked teams.
