*Official* B1G Off-season Thread

Please explain what makes you think Haarms is going to shoot 35% from 3. Cline will shoot his worst percentage from three with more attempts.

If you are depending on Hunter coming in to make shots...yikes
True on Haarms. Hunter is a great shooter. ?

The nice thing is you don't need them to be proven in July. You need them to be proven in season. I've seen multiple national analysts with Purdue in the Top 25 so it must not be that far out of the question.
Those must be Purdue e lackeys.

Haarms can shoot 35+ percent from three? Wow. Must be having one helluva of a summer. Dude only shot 14% from 3 last year.
I took that back above. I mean, he only shot 7. He's a good shooter. I imagine he will be a capable threat from deep as a junior.

I din't say you'd be starting a ton of freshman...I said you would relying on them. And you will. Unless you think WIlliams, Hunter, Wheeler, Stefanovoch(sp?) and Dowuna won't get minutes. Plus, look at your line-up you just posted. Now wtihout cracking a smile, tell me thats a Top 25 starting 5...I mean outside of Edwards...who scores. Nojel as your PG? Again, who scores the ball?

I do think Purdue will be better than what some think. I do not think they will be a Top 25 team. Not close really. JMO.
I think Painter will post Eastern up and expect him to score 8-10 points per game. I think Cline will average 2-3 threes per game and will score 8-10. I think Boudreaux can be a 8-12 ppg scorer. I think Haarms will show off his pick and roll and pick and pop ability and can score 10-12. With Edwards likely scoring 22, that's 60-65 from the starting lineup.

Also all of these Purdue stats are with veteran players who were threats to score. Purdue now has 1 player to be a threat. They don’t have the big inside presence. It’s going to be a different look

Cline has averaged 1 made three a game. I’ll take his shooting numbers with a grain of salt
He's averaged 1.3 but in only 15 minutes per game over his career. Given the time to get in a rhythm, I don't think it's a reach to expect 2-3 makes.

In 2A high school yeah not bad. I’ll take a wait and see how he looks in B1G. If you are expecting big minutes and shots from him again I’ll say yikes.
I never said I expected big minutes out of him. I said he can be a 35% shooter from deep.

I'm interested to see Haarms' development before I say Purdue doesn't have a big inside presence. Dude is 7'4 and made 61% of his twos as a true freshman.

WHich is crazy when you consider that 101 of his 129 FGA's last year were three's. In three seasons he's attempted 65, 2PA...Compared to 319 , 3PA. He's a specialist. That well, isn't that special. Well, kinda of. I mean he is a 39% career shooter from three.

Why? I mean there is a reason he only tookl 7-------right? He never seemed comfortable to me shooting. I think Haarms has a chnace to be really good. But not at shooting.

Maybe the right term for right now is a different type of inside presence

I'm not overly concerned with him becoming prolific from three. If he can hit the 15 foot pick and pop, Purdue's offense becomes a lot more dangerous.

Fair enough. But damn....Good luck posting up a 6"6 dude in the Big 10. I don't see Haarms giving to much offense outside of putbacks, and off the bounce. Just doesn't sem like a comfortable shooter to me.

If he can hit a 15 footer consistently, Purdue could be really good. Just not sure he can.

the reason he only took 7 is because he was a backup freshman center and we had Carsen Edwards, Vince Edwards, Isaac Haas, Dakota Mathias, etc. Why would we want Haarms shooting 3s if we had tons of better options? Like I said above, I don't expect him to make an impact from 3 until his junior season. But if you've followed him at all, you know he has a soft touch on his shot.

IU fans commenting on Purdue shooting percentages is ironic. Can any IU player even hit a three?

Grad transfer is a career 40% three point shooter with many many attempts so there Pig

But yeah it’s a concern for IU as well. The hope of improvement from Morgan and Smith will also go a long way

You're doubting him as a shooter, are you not?

Yes, he has been solid with his 1.2 made threes on 3.1 attempts and I am doubting he may or may not be as good with more minutes, attempts and a much worse roster around him on the floor.

I thought he only took 7, well because he only made one.:D His shot is soft. Doesn't mean he can shoot. I have followed him. He looks very uncomfortable shooting outside of 10 feet. I love his ability off the bounce for a guy his size. And to me that's his strength. That an put backs; Seems to have a knack for finding the ball. Just don't see him really ever being a viable threat outside of 15 feet.

Well this is true. We were bad from three last year. But to me, that won't be the norm. I mean how many times over the years has IU not been a Top shooting team from three? I still cannot believe Johnson was as bad as he was. Hartman too. Never would have expected that from those two. Pretty good shooters throughout their time at IU. Until last year.
As for this year? Well, IDK. Langford can shoot. Unreal range Fitzner was brought in fr this very reason. And he can shoot. Very good MOF.. Anderson and Hunter are quite capable. But both are freshman. Phinisee, another frosh, is a capable shooter. I do think what hurt us last year was a ton of forced, bad shots. That won't helpo your percentage. Don't think that will quite the issue this year. We will have more options this year. Hopefully Morgan and SMith can improve as well. But as of now, I'd say our best options from deep will be Fitzner and Langford. Both quite solid.

Very true. Purdue fans seem as grounded as ever this year.
the guy is a clown. he knows he can't name a single Purdue fan in this thread who is overly optimistic about next season, yet he continues to spew this garbage time after time.

Lol...I've said many times that I was referring to the Purdue board. But keep doing you because everytime you post, it just proves my point over and over.

Damn, it's so easy to trigger you all.

How about you take a deep breath and actually think before you post again. Because you're seriously coming off as an unstable person if asking a question bothers you so much. What do you do in real life when something happens that's actually worth being upset about?

Seriously there's no point in trying to talk about it. A reasonable question cant be asked without them becoming unglued.

You are referencing a free board, of which every team’s is over the top.

I wonder who he is. Zero chance it's a guy who lurked for 8 months and then came to the forum throwing haymakers.

Do you really think I'm throwing "haymakers" here? Wow

Breaking news - home board overly optimistic. Damn son - you are an early favorite for the Geraldo Rivera award.

Conversely your hope that a much poorer shooter in Morgan gets better with more attempts goes s long way. I’m taking Cline as a better long ball shooter over Morgan all day every day.

Fine, I'm willing to accept that. However, for people to overreact when someone asks a simple question is both sad and funny at the same time. My original question was since I don't follow them....am I missing something.

Do you honestly think that if I had asked the exact same question to the Maryland fans...they would have overreacted like this?

My comment tonight was because for multiple pages after I had asked this question, it was constant posts from Purdue fans screaming. There were a few people who like yourself did answer the question, but that was few and far between. Not sure how a person wouldn't think that if you ask a purdue fan a question that they wont blow up for no reason.

Tonight is about as perfect of an example to prove my point as I could have asked for!
