Almost no Indiana fans see Illinois as a rivalry game, sorry it hurts your feelings. Arrogance or not, it's not any bigger than the Wisconsin game, except we have a better chance to beat Illinois. Wisconsin has freaking owned us for 20 years.

Nebraska fans in football will try to claim Wisconsin as their Big 10 rival even though they have been pummeled a million times. Lololol.

Well, if that is the case, OSU is our Big 10 rivals. Haha.

I agree with you on the travel. From the official rules handbook, "It is traveling when a player falls to the playing court while holding the ball without maintaining a pivot foot."

Disagree with the San Diego State part, however. They lost in a single possession game without one of their starters. They manhandled #9 Creighton by 32 points (using the net rankings). Won at #14 BYU. Beat #27 Iowa by 10. Won at #38 Utah State by 9. If I'm a 2 seed, I would love to be in their bracket. I'll admit that. But based on merit, I think they still deserve to be on the one line. One more loss would push them to a 2 seed.
He didn’t have possession of the ball and fall to the floor. He dove for the ball, slid - this is not traveling every time.

Nebraska Football and Indiana basketball are twins.

They were great once. You gotta be over 40 to remember though.

Nebraska hasn't been around long enough to have a rival.

Nah I’m just making sure you remember your place in the B1G. Right in the middle.
Still above Illinois even through the worst decade in program history where we had 2 big titles, 3 sweet 16s, and we're ranked #1 for quite a long time in 2012-13. The first decade since the 1960s without a final four appearance. Not a rivalry.

I'm fine with being arrogant and a fan of a program that hasn't been consistently good for 20 years, but Illinois is still not considered a rival.

Were ranked #1...before you lost at Illinois. Your totally not rival. Despite an almost dead even head to head record and multiple instant classic games.

okie dokie

It really chaps your ass that you're in a category with Iowa Wisconsin and Minnesota, even though Wisconsin has been really good for 20 years.

Purdue is the only real rival. All the others goes in cycles. Illinois back in the day and during the Eric Gordon year, Michigan during the Oladipo and the guy for Michigan I can’t even remember his name who’s not doing anything now. Wisc a little bit during Crean although that’s just because they kicked our ass. Iowa when they had Alford. But no I don’t consider Illinois a rival in even the slightest sense. Nothing against them there’s just nothing there. Both teams have kinda been shit the past decade. It’s like saying PSU and Rutgers has been a rivalry. No body cares.

IU fans are under a spell and think they are still the program from the movie Hoosiers.

Indiana has not been that program since Bob Knight lol

Any kid born after 1990 would have no idea Indiana was a blue blood.

Hoosiers is about a high school you dumb dick

We have this argument every year. Illinois is not a rival to Indiana.

Was talking about the time period. The last time Indiana was good.

Because you insecure IU fans bring it up every single year. We know that we’ve sucked this past decade. Indiana still delusional as fvck thinking it’s 1980

I don't think indiana matches up well because of Illinois guards ability to beat Indiana's guards off the dribble. Just about every opposing coach has talked about how big and physical indiana is, so that part I don't think it's accurate. It doesn't really matter though because indiana has been terrible on the road.
That's okay because Illinois plays better on the road than at home.

This is accurate. Illinois isn't a rival no matter how you slice it. They're just not.

These things do go in cycles, but Iowa's are games you want to win because you have to live around the other fanbases.

Plus, I look at rivalries as rival AD's. MSU owns us in BB, although we have played some good games with them at home, but they are definetly a football rivalry.

So overall i look at them as a rival in both. Although BB has been a 1 way street since Izzo showed up in EL

It’s really ridiculous lol.

Most IU fans are completely ignorant of CBB history outside the tiny window their program was great in.
That tiny window from 1940 (first national title) to 2002 (last title game appearance)? Also that 2012-13 year, which ended in disappointment, but we were ranked #1 for over 10 weeks that season. Then there's the two outright B1G titles since 2013. That short history?

Illinois and Indiana first met on January 20, 1906 with an Illinois victory, 27-24. Since the two teams are both in the Big Ten Conference, they meet at least once a season. The location of the game alternates between Assembly Hallin Bloomington and the State Farm Center, formerly Assembly Hall, in Champaign. There have been a total of five overtime games in this series."[1]

In mid-1980s Indiana head coach Bob Knightbrought allegations to the NCAA that Illinois assistant coaches had acted improperly in the recruitment of Lowell Hamilton. Hamilton was the focus of a recruiting competition between Illinois and Indiana, and while the allegations of improper conduct were unfounded by the NCAA, the controversy had some level of impact on the games at the time.[2]

On March 10, 1991, after an Indiana victory in Champaign, a profanity-laced shouting match between Knight and Fighting Illini coach Lou Henson erupted outside the team locker rooms. The incident started when Knight left the Assembly Hall court with seven seconds remaining in the game, skipping the traditional postgame handshake while laughing and waving to the Illinois crowd. This incident enraged Henson to the point of confronting Knight outside of the locker room. Henson's anger continued as he spoke out against Knight at the postgame press conference by stating: "What do you expect out of Knight? He`s a classic bully. I was in the (Indiana) locker room, he jumped on me and I wanted him to come outside. He intimidates the Big 10 office; he tries to intimidate everybody. His entire life is based on intimidation, but the big bully won`t intimidate me."[3]

In a game at Bloomington on February 25, 1998, Indiana head coach Bob Knight was issued two technical fouls by referee Ted Valentine for first arguing a call after a hard collision between Illinois guard Sergio McClainand Indiana guard Luke Recker in which McClain was issued a technical foul for touching the rim after blocking Recker's shot. Coach Knight argued the call should have been goaltending. From the collision, Recker fell hard to the court in pain. To check on his player, Coach Knight rushed to the court for which he was issued the second technical foul by Valentine.[4]

Occasional feuds and incidents between the schools' programs have fueled the competition over the years. Illinois has dominated Indiana in the short history of the Big Ten Tournament. Of the 18 years the conference tournament been held, Illinois and Indiana have played a total of 8 times. Illinois holds the record of 6-2 over Indiana. In the 1999 Big Ten Tournament the Hoosiers and the Illini faced each other and Illinois won the game 82-66. Illinois would go on to win 4 of the next 5 tournament meetings.[1]

Another feud is less focused on the tension between the two schools, but rather a former Illinois head coach and his ties to Indiana. Bruce Weber coached the Fighting Illini from 2003–12, but the history between Weber and Indiana began before he set foot in Champaign. As head coach at Southern Illinois Universityfor five years from 1998-2003, he scheduled some non-conference meetings against Indiana. Before that, Weber served as an assistant coach under Gene Keady at Purdue University for 18 years. During his tenure at Illinois, Weber noted that there was tension between himself and Indiana (see Indiana–Purdue rivalry).[5]

In 2007 there was a recruiting battle between the schools over Indiana Mr. Basketball, Eric Gordon. Gordon initially verbally committed to play for Illinois.[6] However, when Mike Davisresigned as Indiana's head coach and Kelvin Sampson was hired, Gordon decommitted and signed his National Letter of Intent to play for Indiana.[7]

Wasn't even worth a response. Title in 4 decades, two hall of fame coaches, a championship appearance in every decade except for the 60s and 2010's.

Has to use Wikipedia as source. Cool the records are close, doesn't make it a rivalry

That's a hot rivalry! A couple technical fouls and a recruiting battle since 1991?
