***Official B1G In-Season Thread***

Purdue fans continue to ask if Newman could play ahead of Proctor, Sasha, or Hunter.... yet, the real question is why can’t Newman beat out IT? Hunter was fine as the backup PG for Purdue last year, so don’t give me the “IT is a PG “ bs. The truth is Newman isn’t where Purdue fans expected him to be at this point. Anyone who says they saw Newman as a redshirt this year prior to this week is not telling the truth. IT has always been the center of redshirt talk among Purdue fans this offseason.

Hunter can play the point and Newman can’t lol. Not rocket science.

I’ll say it again, I know IU needed shooters but feel Franklin and Newman do what their respective teams are looking for them to do.

Cline averaged 13 minutes a game as a freshman and Painter has mentioned multiple times he wished he had redshirted him. We can agree to disagree.

I think redshirts are dumb if a player is able to contribute. Maybe it’s different at other schools but I can only think of one player that contributed in his 5th year at Michigan.

If Bajema can play 5-10 minutes this year I’d rather see that than a redshirt.

Didn’t you disappear a few years back after making some dumb IU comments after a Duke loss?
Yes. Yes he did. He came here telling us there was NO WAY that Thomas Bryant would improve our defense by any considerable amount. We went on to have our defense ranked in the 70’s IIRC up from the prior year which was over 150 IIRC.

Nothing wrong with that. Having a 5th year Stefanovic and a 5th year Wheeler will be nice though.

Silence is their response.

I mentioned in a post that I was surprised by what happened but that I’m still hopeful for Newman. No clue why you quoted multiple JohnHoosier quotes. Of course he’ll have terrible ones haha.

What's the pulse for Purdue this year? Great run last year, of course the stud gunner is now in the NBA. How does this roster look? Boiler fans expecting a solid T25 team?

Still a lot to be determined. Lost Carsen and Cline but returned a solid frontcourt. I think a lot depends on how good Jahaad Proctor (grad transfer from High Point) ends up being. I expect 22 wins and possibly a second round/S16 berth? 4th or 5th in the league.

Think he’s referring to some of the other Purdue fans that were pounding their chests at Newman being an “elite” shooter and were sold on him being better than Franklin.

This whole shit posting fest is nothing more than a couple (not you) Purdue fans getting their feelings hurt that Franklin is contributing already and Newman won’t be. Not one person said anything (to my recollection) about Franklin being better, but that he’s more ready to contribute right now. Then those same delicate Purdue fans try to pound their chests at returning, unproven players like Proctor, Sasha, Hunter and evening Thompson as reasons why he is red shirting.

It’s not a knock on the kids ability. Some are more ready than others. Like my mention of Anderson. He wasn’t ready last year. Doesn’t mean I think he’s a bad player. I really Like him and think in time he’s gonna be a solid contributor.

You answered your own question. Of course those 3 i mainly quoted are the ones with the wild takes.

Yeah? How did they shoot last night? How did they shoot in their scrimmage? LOL! Oh man. They shot it well during their exhibition game? Stop the press!

And again, the returning players from IU had a higher 3pt percentage on more attempts than what Purdue has returning. The stats are out there.
I had to look up the returning players stats to see what you are seeing that has you convinced.
IU has five players return with 3 point stats from last year.
Green .410
Durham .348
Smith .219
Phinisee .310
Anderson .233

That’s about 30%. So are you saying Purdue will shoot worse than 30% from 3?

30% is a strange stat to hang ones hat on but you’ve got to be you.

Franklin would be the backup PG at Purdue imo, just like he is at IU.
Yeah that wouldn't surprise me. Painter loves him some combo guards, and obviously was heavily after Franklin, so I think that was his vision for Franklin as well.

Luckily IT is doing enough that we can play Hunter where he belongs -- as your second ball handler and combo guard. He'll still likely get some PG min though, especially when IT's size can be exploited.

How good do you consider you are at math?

Purdue needed an off-ball guy a lot more in that class, and even more so now that our next two guards to come in are Morton and Ivey.

Hopefully Newman can figure this out, and my guess is he will and will be better for it. But I don't think any Purdue fan can say with a straight face that this is anywhere close to what they expected when we signed Newman.

Jesus. Go pull the actual stats. Returning IU players have a combined higher 3pt percentage on more volume than what Purdue has returning.

Here’s another clue, it’s not 30%. When you actually look at the numbers, and not be a total douchebag, you’ll see the highest percentage guys have the highest volume.

Another example of you being completely uninformed today. Lol. Might want to sit the rest of the day/season out. You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about.

why can't a SG/WG beat out a PG for minutes. SG/WG can handle ball just as good as a PG, also with teams moving away from the traditional position BB to the positionless game.

the 1/2/3 all can handle the ball, defend and shoot out past the arc. this is why you see team going with a 4 guard, 1 forward lineup.
Prove it.

These stats are from sports reference.com.
Feel free to show your stats and what percentage you come up with.

Can’t now unfortunately because you were too chicken shit to take the bet back in the summer.

Weren't you the one calling people degenerate gamblers for making bets payable to charities last year?

it worked out just fine for Ryan coaching @ Wisconsin, its has done ok @ Iowa, Moss RS'd but is at Kansas, Baer RS'd and did just fine these are coming off of RS'd
RSSO Nunge who used it to put on good weight and get used to that growth spurt. going from 220 lbs to 245/250 lbs and 6'7 coming in to 6'11/7'0 depending on where you look or listen to.
RSFR Fredrick going from 165 lbs to 195 lbs dispite shrinking from 6'4 to 6'3
RSJR Pemsl to recover from Surgery
RSSO Connor to recover from multiple illinesses that put him into the hospital

RS's are good for those that need it. even in the 2020 class there are 2 that could stand a RS maybe 3.

being selfish on that one has it would cut down the number of players to have in the rotation.

You have a different result?
Show your work.
It’s on ESPN. Go look it up for yourself. I’ll ban bet you that is higher than 30% overall and IU returns a higher percent on more volume than Purdue.

I'm not a remedial math teacher but you don't just add the % and divide by the number of players. Add all attempts and makes returning and do the math then. This is shocking i have to actually teach you this.
He clearly didn’t graduate from Purdue...

Show me your work. These are already tabulated percentages of the returning played and is based on attempts and makes.
Show me where I’m wrong.

I can't make you drink the water. I can only tell you where to find it. If math is this hard for you maybe don't use it in your arguments.

Show me where I’m wrong. Did you have more than five guys shoot 3’s last year that return?
Ban bet? Charity bet? I'll show you the math if you want to bet on it. IU returns a higher percentage on more volume than Purdue does.
