Day to day. Played fine without him today. Need him back for the tournament for depth though.

Pretty crazy to think that the starting 5 that just won on the road at Maryland could all be back next year.
Hope you get back. Loved JB's post game. Class act. Kills me that IU could have had him as our coach. But the powers to be wanted a minority hire----and passed on JB. Hired Sampson. Plus, I think money was an issue. Anyways...

Yeah, its crazy to think you could have everyone back. Yikes...

I was reading an article that said IU and several other top programs passed on Beilein because he could not recruit.

Not sure about other programs...But IU passed for two reasons:

1. IU president, powers to be were in love with Sampson. Wanted a minority hire.

2. For some reason----Monet seemed to be an issue.

As for his recruiting---I mean its not like he's blwoing it up. BUT....thats not his approach. He gets kids that fit his system. Get a gem here an there. Seems to me its worked out just fine. And it has because dude flat out develops his guys.

these will be with the team next fall that are physical
6'8 235 lb Pemsl
7'0 250 lb Nunge
6'3 Fredrick who played in Cinncinnati before moving to Kentucky

then their is the NYC kid PG Troussaint who grew up playing tough nosed BB in NY.

sorry but Fran recruits BB player not thugs,. someday the NCAA will start enforcing the rules in the books, this is not rugby it is BB.

teams can play as physical as they want and no calls will be made.
It doesn't matter what size your players are when your players learn to be pussies via osmosis by Fran.

NC State was close to hiring him until rich boosters raised a stink about his supposed poor recruiting ability. Ie they found out he wouldnt let them try to buy players.

yeah to bad he teaches his players how to play BB VS playing like a bunch of Thugs.

Pemsl is the muscle guy this team needs.
Nunge put on 25 lbs to deal with the physicality [thugs] in the BT
Tuissaint brings that NYC toughness at the PG and quickness.
Patrick is now 6'9 195 lbs up from 175 lbs, his thyroid condition may keep him from gaining a lot of wieght. but at SF he needs quickness not bulk.
Garza needs to put on about 10-15 lbs to his 240 lbs to deal with all the blows he takes.
Cook just needs to develop that mid range shot
Moss just needs to become more consistent.

I am happy with this season exceeding expectation of everybody, short 3 players. 2 of them that were tied for 5th in scoring last season.

this years defense has indeed improved going from 247 to 134 overall and 61st vs the 3 vs 301st last season.

can't play defense B*** S*** playing short handed all season
Nunge 15.7 mpg 5.7 ppg, 2.8 rpg [91], 21 total steals and 25 blocks 2nd on the team.
Pemsl 16.4 mpg, 5.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg [144 good for 3rd], 7 steals and 10 blocks

both were the big bodies that could/would have made a difference on the interior.

the interior defense is the problem allowing to many players to get to the rim. unstopped.

sorry but with out those 2 able to come off the bench neither Cook or Garza could afford to get in players faces or try to stop them because of worrying about fouling. due to lack of backups, Kriener can't do it by himself.

From ESPN:

Why every team in the Power Rankings will or will not make Final Four

Michigan

  • Why they will: This is another versatile, disciplined unit in Ann Arbor that's working on its seventh consecutive season with a top-10 finish in turnover percentage on KenPom.com. Its top-five defense has anchored a Final Four-worthy program that has collected wins over Villanova, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Purdue.
  • Why they won't: The immediate concern for this team's Final Four hopes is the status of Charles Matthews, who was on the bench in a walking boot during Sunday's win at Maryland and will not play until he's "pain free" from an ankle injury, coach John Beilein said. The other problem that could hurt this team is its 33.9 percent clip from the 3-point line in league play, which will be the program's worst mark since 2010 if it stands.
Michigan State

  • Why they will: The Spartans have Cassius Winston, a Wooden Award candidate who has carried this squad and produced heroic efforts (19.2 PPG, 7.6 RPG, 43 percent from the 3-point line) throughout the season. Surrounded by gritty veterans and an experienced coach, Winston can lead this team to the Final Four.
  • Why they won't: The Spartans have succeeded in the Big Ten, America's deepest league. But there will be moments in the NCAA tournament when Tom Izzo will wish he had Joshua Langford, out for the season with a foot injury, and Nick Ward, potentially out for the year with a fractured left hand.
Purdue

  • Why they will: Carsen Edwards (23.5 PPG) is a force for the Boilermakers and an impressive playmaker who has led this program to the top of the deepest league in the country. They have the Big Ten's best offense, a critical element in their current 13-1 stretch.
  • Why they won't: The Boilermakers have surrendered nearly a point per possession in league play thus far. And their nonconference slate is decorated with losses (Florida State, Texas, Virginia Tech) to opponents backed by the bouncy athletes who could challenge this up-and-down defense in the NCAA tournament.
Wisconsin

  • Why they will: With Ethan Happ (17.8 PPG, 10.1 RPG), Wisconsin has bounced back from its 1-3 stretch to start the calendar year and won 12 Big Ten games. His passing ability (4.7 APG) creates space on the perimeter for the top 3-point shooting team in the league too.
  • Why they won't: You can't trust this team down the stretch in tight games in the NCAA tournament. Happ has made just 45 percent of his free throws this season and his team has made only 60.2 percent of its attempts from the charity stripe, the worst mark in league play.
Iowa

  • Why they will: N/A
  • Why they won't: Fran

If every other team in the league is too rough, it's you not them. Everyone looks like thugs to a pussy.

to add to their defense they have increased their steals per game from 5.2 pg to 6.3 spg. they also cut their TO's from 13.4 to 12.1 TO pg.

Wieskamp has done a pretty good job of shoring up the defense
102 defensive rebounds, 26 steals and 12 blocks
Jordan has 20 steals to date 56 defensive rebounds
Moss has 29 steals 60 defensive rebounds and 7 blocks

each player has improved defensively, as a team they have improved that is why they have a winning record vs last season.
anybody saying that Iowa can't play defense or that Fran can't teach defense is flat out lying.

What Fran doesn't teach is how to play like thugs.

if that's the only way you can win is by thuggery that's to bad. its also why BT teams struggle in the NCAAT Because those refs don't allow that type of play.

Speaking of thugs Bone Thugs were in Reno over the weekend

Michigan does not play thug ball. Purdue does not play thug ball only bottom feeder team play thug ball because that's the only way they can win.
Illinois
Rutgers
PSU
Maybe time for them to play real BB vs thug ball.
