*Official* B1G In-Season Thread

Purdue is one of the most physical teams in the league. Admit it, your team is a bunch of soft pussies.

You just need excuses for why your team is ranked last on defense.
I like that he listed their cutdown of TO's as a proof that their D improved.
You can't beat his logic. It's all fact-based. :D

25 pages behind again...

Did I see that right? Rutgers beat Iowa by 20? I'm pretty sure that's what I saw while drinking on Saturday, but I'm trying to forget it.

FireFran
FireBarta

Just did that to piss Gil off..

anybody saying that Iowa can't play defense or that Fran can't teach defense is flat out lying.

Iowa fans: Realistically, what can you do about Fran here?

Seems he is "in"(is he really though?) on some big time recruits and his roster will have 2 of his kids on it next season, one of which is a major recruit.

So it seems like maybe Iowa is afraid to fire him because his kids are gone and probably some other players transfer which means a complete restart and Iowa is back down to the bottom of the conference for a while.

But it is also very clear he is never going to make Iowa a good program.

Is there support to canning him soon or is he beloved by the fan base?

From ESPN:

Why every team in the Power Rankings will or will not make Final Four

Michigan

    • Why they will: This is another versatile, disciplined unit in Ann Arbor that's working on its seventh consecutive season with a top-10 finish in turnover percentage on KenPom.com. Its top-five defense has anchored a Final Four-worthy program that has collected wins over Villanova, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Purdue.
    • Why they won't: The immediate concern for this team's Final Four hopes is the status of Charles Matthews, who was on the bench in a walking boot during Sunday's win at Maryland and will not play until he's "pain free" from an ankle injury, coach John Beilein said. The other problem that could hurt this team is its 33.9 percent clip from the 3-point line in league play, which will be the program's worst mark since 2010 if it stands.
Michigan State

    • Why they will: The Spartans have Cassius Winston, a Wooden Award candidate who has carried this squad and produced heroic efforts (19.2 PPG, 7.6 RPG, 43 percent from the 3-point line) throughout the season. Surrounded by gritty veterans and an experienced coach, Winston can lead this team to the Final Four.
    • Why they won't: The Spartans have succeeded in the Big Ten, America's deepest league. But there will be moments in the NCAA tournament when Tom Izzo will wish he had Joshua Langford, out for the season with a foot injury, and Nick Ward, potentially out for the year with a fractured left hand.
Purdue

    • Why they will: Carsen Edwards (23.5 PPG) is a force for the Boilermakers and an impressive playmaker who has led this program to the top of the deepest league in the country. They have the Big Ten's best offense, a critical element in their current 13-1 stretch.
    • Why they won't: The Boilermakers have surrendered nearly a point per possession in league play thus far. And their nonconference slate is decorated with losses (Florida State, Texas, Virginia Tech) to opponents backed by the bouncy athletes who could challenge this up-and-down defense in the NCAA tournament.
Wisconsin

    • Why they will: With Ethan Happ (17.8 PPG, 10.1 RPG), Wisconsin has bounced back from its 1-3 stretch to start the calendar year and won 12 Big Ten games. His passing ability (4.7 APG) creates space on the perimeter for the top 3-point shooting team in the league too.
    • Why they won't: You can't trust this team down the stretch in tight games in the NCAA tournament. Happ has made just 45 percent of his free throws this season and his team has made only 60.2 percent of its attempts from the charity stripe, the worst mark in league play.
Iowa

    • Why they will: N/A
    • Why they won't: Fran
I LOL, literally. Good stuff on Iowa.

Neither. Rip the band aid off now. Purdue is winning the B1G outright. Painter is CoTY and probably should be National CoTY.

Just think something wild will happen. Purdue's away games besides the OSU game is Loss at Maryland, 3pt win @Neb, 2pt win @IU, OT games against PSU and Wisc. Feel something crazy to end the conference will happen.

We've certainly played some close road games. And we could definitely lose at Minnesota. I'd be stunned if we lost at Northwestern.

Hoping that 5-3 road record ends up 7-3 with the only three losses to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams in the B1G.

Id say thats the most likely way of it going down, if they were to lose one. Both would be shocking and funny.

I wouldn’t consider losing @Minny to be shocking, I bet Purdue will only be favored by like 4. @NW would be though.

Shocking is losing both. Minny has the capability. Purdue to lose both or northwestern would be odd and Purdue would have to look very ugly.

If Purdue wants to win the Big Ten, then beating Minnesota and Northwestern on the road is just what they have to do. No excuses.

Imagine the trolling coming from IU fans if Purdue fails to win B1G regular season title.

Indiana lost to both NW and Minnesota on the road so jot sure they are the team who has room to talk. Id expect it more from whoever of MSU or Michigan who gets a share of the title.

you might not have been up that much if they did have Wesson oh lets not forget OSU beat Iowa on their court
you beat a Wesson less OSU team on your home court.
What's your point? We crushed Iowa as well as OSU on their own court WITH Wesson. Not sure what you were trying to say here.

Nothing. There is nothing anyone can do about Fran at this moment, or probably for the next 4 years. One, due to his outrageous buyout that was included in his contract extension, that wasn't publicized, and a reporter had to file for a FOIA request to get the details. And two, son #2 is arriving (at least he is supposed to be decent at basketball) next year. And three, no one trusts Barta to make a hire anyways, so we're f*cked no matter how you look at it.

Optimism, right?
