*Official* B1G In-Season Thread

Alright, before the “real” Big Ten play starts, I’ll do award predictions.

POY-Ethan Happ. Unless Purdue finishes top 4 I don’t think Edwards wins it.

Freshman of the year- Ignas. Pretty easy. Possibly best player on the best team.

DPOY-Not sure. It could go to Simpson out of UM, or some other player there. Happ possibly.

6th Man of year-Xavier Tillman. Dudes a beast. Almost no drop off between him and Ward (X is less polished in the post but more athletic).

1st Team

Cassius Winston
Carsen Edwards
James Palmer
Juwan Morgan
Happ

2nd Team

Anthony Cowen
Romeo Langford
Charles Matthews
Ignas
Kaleb Wesson

3rd Team

Zavier Simpson
Joshua Langford
Tyler Cook
Jordan Murphy
Nick Ward

HM
D’Mitrik Trice
Jordan Poole
Isaac Copeland
Glen Watson
CJ Jackson
Bruno Fernando
Luke Garza
Amir Coffey
Lamar Stevens (Penn State sucks but dude is balling out)
Trent Frazier
Vic Law
Eugene Omuruyi

If Murphy gets his rebounding average up to 13 a game from 12.9, does he at least make the second team?

If he leaves you’re a contender too
Yeah, I think we’ll still be good, it will just bring us too another level if he sticks around.

Senior Cash and Langford in the backcourt will be monsterous. I hope the 5 Freshman we have this year develop well, that would really help us.

Rocket will be a nice spark/ scorer off the bench next year, and I think Malik Hall will shock some people.

You could switch him and Cook I guess, Iowa is just the better team. Not Wesson, and not Ignas. If Minny finishes in the upper half of the Big Ten, I’d put him second team.

@hailtoyourvictor any word on Ignas going to the NBA after this year? I feel like 16 points as a Freshman on a top 5 team should give the scouts something to look at.

How will Malik Hall shock anyone? He is a solid top 50 recruit. A lot of people have seen him.

You also talked up Henry before the season. He plays 14 minutes and averages 4 points.

Our mods think he wants to stay 2 years because of how much he’s liking the college atmosphere. I’m sure he will test the waters and money usually talks at that point.

Henry isn’t a scorer yet at all, and he doesn’t need to be. The reason he gets PT over all the other FR is because he’s a really solid defender for a FR wing. He’s athletic, and has some good ball skills. He needs to develop as a scorer, yes, but so far he seems to naturally fit into the roster.
No one expected him to come in and average 8-10. I think his scoring output will increase a bit as the season goes on, though, as guys like Brown and Bingham and the walkons will get little to no PT.

About Hall, I may have used the wrong language. He will be a really good backup 3/4. IMO, he’ll be a great Spartan. Already talk and lengthy with great ball skills for his size. Maybe needs to bulk up a bit, but that will come with time.

I agree with that you are saying but I didn’t know if Hall was having a massive senior year stats wise or something. I was curious.

Henry will probably start for MSU next year, and I’m perfectly ok with that. He’s a really solid role player at this point in his career.

I also think he’s playing a bit out of position right now. He’s basically our backup 2. Naturallly he’s a bit more of a 3/4, which is what he’ll play next year.

I also like Henry but he is nothing more than a role player this year. MGC talked him a bit more than that before the season started.
He was rated outside the top 100, and the coaches were impressed with what they saw and said he would get the most minutes out of all the Freshman, which he has. I don’t think I was saying he’ll come in and start day one, just that the coaches have liked what they have seen.

I agree, he’s a solid role player right now, and defends well and is a good athlete. His jumper isn’t fantastic yet, but it’s better than what we thought we were getting.

He's better than Damezi Anderson, Jake Forrester, or Race Thompson

Damezi probably but Damezi is capable of having a nice impact with the theee.

Race we have no idea as he has been out with a concussion since November

Jake yep.

Never have said Aaron was worse than any of these guys though, so not sure where that came from.

Difference is that IU needs Romeo and RP.

Cash + Langford > Romeo and RP, especially considering that Romeo is gone next year.
Yes Michigan State is better than IU this year, who's disputing that? The only point he was making was Henry would be our 4th best recruit this year.

He’s just upset Michigan State is going to strike out against IU on recruiting in 2019

Hey I’m not sure why you made the Henry is better than Anderson, Thompson and Forrester in the first place.

Were you not just discounting his performance to MGC so far?

Henry plays on a better team, behind a better set of guards/wings.

Difference being MGC talked up Aaron to be more than a 14 minute 4 point role player. He just said Hall was going to “shock” us next year. Might be he overspeaks some which is fine I was just calling it out.

Besides Thompson I didn’t expect anything out of Anderson or Forrester. Unfortunately Thompson has been out with a concussion and probably won’t be a ton of help this year.

I don't recall his prediction for Henry, but for a 3-star recruit I think he's played above expectations on a upperclassmen led MSU team. He plays tough D, and takes smart, open shots.

I think Ahrens playing better than expected has also cut into his minutes lately.

He is a winner and will help MSU win plenty of games the next few years.

I don’t really think I talked up Aaron Henry that much. He has outplayed us respective respective recruiting rankings, and the coaches said he has been the most impressive Freshman. We don’t need him to score either, that’s not his role.

Ahrens is such a tough player. He’s got such a clean J too. Hope he doesn’t grad transfer somewhere else next season, he’s been solid.

Not sure with Race. He was ranked higher, RS and now is injured. I actually think Race will be a really good player. Anderson is lost defensively. His shot is ugly. Jake has shown some moments. I would take Henry over those two. Not sure about Thompson, though.

I did. I expected more. I still think in time, he's going to be really good.
