*Official* B1G In-Season Thread

Don't know about you, but dude---I'd take 7-8 wins a year. 9-3 would be a dream season.

I would too, but what are you paying for it? Allen just brought in the best class in IU history. Until our president is retires and quits taking $10million every year from the B1G network money we don’t have much of a choice.

Our basketball team already has top notch resources.
That can be said for almost every Big 10 program. But even when you have top notch resources, doesn't mean you become complacent. We have seen where being complacent has gotten us....

Do you think a Dabo Sweeney level coach was available to Purdue for 6 million? I don't.

No. But look compare their salaries vs accomplishments.

Dabo-won the ACC 6 times, 114-30, with a National Title makes 6.2 mil

Brohm-13-12 finished 3 and 2nd in the West makes $6mil

Alright, before the “real” Big Ten play starts, I’ll do award predictions.

POY-Ethan Happ. Unless Purdue finishes top 4 I don’t think Edwards wins it.

Freshman of the year- Ignas. Pretty easy. Possibly best player on the best team.

DPOY-Not sure. It could go to Simpson out of UM, or some other player there. Happ possibly.

6th Man of year-Xavier Tillman. Dudes a beast. Almost no drop off between him and Ward (X is less polished in the post but more athletic).

1st Team

Cassius Winston
Carsen Edwards
James Palmer
Ignas
Happ

2nd Team

Anthony Cowen
Romeo Langford
Charles Matthews
Juwan Morgan
Kaleb Wesson

3rd Team

Zavier Simpson
Joshua Langford
Tyler Cook
Jordan Murphy
Nick Ward

HM
D’Mitrik Trice
Jordan Poole
Isaac Copeland
Glen Watson
CJ Jackson
Bruno Fernando
Luke Garza
Amir Coffey
Lamar Stevens (Penn State sucks but dude is balling out)
Trent Frazier
Vic Law
Eugene Omuruyi

Lol no Juwan Morgan on 1st team gtfo

Then you must be livid that Archie Miller makes more than Jay Wright. Think of everyone else Indiana could have got for that money.
IU basketball has a much higher ceiling than Purdue will ever have in football. Purdue is recruiting well but it will always be an uphill battle with Michigan, OSU, and PSU. That's just in the Big10.

I wonder if we will ever start seeing players on .500 type teams sitting out the 2nd half of the season to prepare for the combine.

Very possible. I would in all honesty. For the sport of football I am all about holdouts and you getting yours. The career expectancy is way too short

We are talking about salary vs results. I'm using Archie Miller as my point that sometimes you have to pay up to get the guy you want, even if results don't support it yet.

I don't blame them for paying him, I'm just saying the Purdue football program isn't close to comparable with IU basketball.

I'll never blame a school for paying up to improve their athletic programs. I couldn't care less what coaches make, all that matters are the results. If they don't perform then they'll get fired regardless.

Exactly what I'm saying. So it doesn't matter that Brohm (6mil) makes almost as much as Dabo (6.2mil) and it doesn't matter that Archie (3.2mil) makes more than Jay Wright (2.6mil).

If Purdue chose 6mil Brohm over 6.2mil Dabo or Indiana chose 3.2mil Archie over Wright, then that would get scrutiny. Dabo and Jay Wright aren't available to those schools at those salaries, though, so lock up the guy that you want and can lock up.

So you don't think Indiana should have paid Archie that much and would rather go for a different coach that was on the market? Seems odd.

No I dont think that. You may be inadvertently trolling Otto. Go back and reread some more.

That got us Archie. I would call that amazing.

I just think it’s funny it’s somehow already considered “amazing” when thus far he’s won 60% of his games and hasn’t made the tournament yet. I know he will and I really do think he’ll be good but may be putting the cart before the horse on some of this stuff.

Look in the mirror.

Purdue is paying Jeff Brohm 6 million dollars for a 13-12 record.

That’s a lazy-ass comparison and you know it.

So you agree with us?

It was a toss up between him and Ignas, but UM is the better team right now and is having more success. Who would you bump down?

I'd probably bump Ignas down. Ignas/Matthews/Simpson all 2nd/3rd team with Poole or Teske Honorable Mention. Teske's numbers don't jump off the page but if voters watch Michigan they will see how important he is.

We are fine in basketball, and Allen deserves at least another year or two as coach. No point in raising TA's salary.

I just looked at the stats again and I’ll think I’ll switch them. Did not realize how well Morgan was shooting from the floor/3. Also a better rebounder

Ignas has been very good just not better than Juwan Morgan. Either way Juwan Morgan needs to be on there.

Morgan had only the second triple double in program history last night and he carried us to a victory over Butler last week with 35 points. Dude's a flat out winner.

Just switched Morgan and Ignas, thanks guys.

I just felt some UM player had to be on first team, judging by how good they are. But they just play really good team basketball, no real star.

MSU’s 3 Juniors account for 49.4 PPG combined, with Cash averaging 16.9, Ward averaging 16.5, and Langford averaging 16.0.

I don't see any reason to raise his salary, either. Wasn't my point. Point is/was----IF Allen had IU in back to back bowls, with the recruiting as well, I'd have no issue with IU raising the ante to keep him. Not to mention if he had the resume of Brohm; 30-10 at WKU, with 3 bowl games, with 2 Bowl wins. I think Purdue made the right decision---and the right hire. If its a bust, well, ok. But better than watching him go somewhere else and do what you think he can do.

How many will be around as seniors
I’ll guess 2. Cassius doesn’t have the body for the NBA. I don’t see Langford leaving. I’m guessing Ward is gone, but I’d love to see him stick around. If he stays, we are a contender next year. Or if we get Stewart.
