*Official* B1G In-Season Thread

Oh, I think we improve. Hopefully part of that is RL hitting jump shots. If he does....THis team really gets better. I understand Miller is a different beast. My days of having Crean in the rearview are well gone. They left when he left. Still doesn't mean this team wins at Purdue, MD or NW. I've seen some really good Indiana teams go into those places and struggle. And not just Crean led teams.
I like this IU team. I love how we are defensively. What I don't like is how e react when Mrgan goes out. Its a dicey situation going into games knwoing that if Morgan picks up some early fouls, we are in trouble.
Like i said, I'd be happy with 4-4. And nothing wrong with that. Big 10 is really good.
I never thought Romeo was an elite 3 point shooter, but at some point you have to think he's gonna get it going a little bit from outside. He's a better shooter than he's shown and water usually finds it's level. They've won some games against good teams and they haven't even played all that well yet.

Juwan's done a much better job lately staying out of foul trouble. We will have to see how that holds up going forward. I'm sorry I just can't see this IU team losing to 3 middle tier teams in a row. If they do I'll eat crow, but I see a 5-3 record over that stretch. I think we're just a better team than Purdue and Northwestern. Maryland is loaded with talent so I could see a loss there. Michigan at home is winnable and that place will be packed, it's soo hard to win at Assembly Hall.

Illinois
@Rutgers
Michigan at home
@Maryland
@Purdue
@Northwestern
Nebraska

All go from probable wins to winnable. I think we win at least 5 over that stretch.

Fight me.

I think we are better than NW and Purdue. And if those games were at home, I'd call them wins. But they are not. So I'm not so sure. Heck we struggled to beat NW in Bloomington. I think games with NW, Purdue, MD and UM(at home) are all winnable. Games we should win. But they are on the road. 5-3 would be nice. And its attainable. But 4-4 to me is where we land. Hope like hell I am wrong.
As for RL.....He never was a lights out shooter. Seen the kid play a ton in HS. Officiated a few of his games. I've seen him get on some rolls shooting the ball. And man is it fun. Unstoppable when he's hitting from the perimeter. I do think he'll start to kncok down shots. He's not a bad shooter; certainly not as bad as he has shown. Like to see him get a few to go down vs Illinois, gain some steam going into raod games at Michigan/Maryland. A RL hitting jump shots makes this team really good.

Indiana has only played at Maryland twice and have lost by a total of 5 points...neither was a good Indiana team.
Meh....The 2014-15 team was 17-8, ranked 25th heading to Maryland. That team shit the bed its last 5 games. Going 1-4, with two of those losses being at home.

No. But look compare their salaries vs accomplishments.

Dabo-won the ACC 6 times, 114-30, with a National Title makes 6.2 mil

Brohm-13-12 finished 3 and 2nd in the West makes $6mil
You keep saying $6MM. It won't be near that next year.

I'm bullish on this team so we will have to agree to disagree. 5-3 is attainable in that stretch and should be expected from a top 20-25 team. Which is what I think this IU team will end up being.

They didn't even make the field of 68, ergo a bad team. This Maryland team isn't that good either, they are going downhill fast with a coach likely playing out his last year.

You have no idea that that's the case. Everything that has been reported is 6+ million per year

The source you mentioned reported it could be “up to” $6 million a year. Everything that is being reported is assumptions at this point in time.

Actually they did...Was 10-seed. Lost to Wichita State. IU wasn't that bad, in 2014-15. Beat a good, and ranked SMU team. Beat a ranked Butler team. Beat both OSU and Maryland. Both were Top 25; Maryland was Top 15 at the time. IU was 17-7 , ranked 25th heading into the game at Maryland. Lost 68-66. I believe Yogi missed a 3 that would have won it.

Maryland isn't that great. But they are talented. Very talented. If that talent shows up, it'll be a toughie.

IU going 4-4 doesn't mean they are not a Top 25 team. They play 4th ranked Michigan twice. A ranked Nebraska team. A Maryland team just outside the Top 25. @ Purdue will be tough regardless. A Purdue team that's 19th in KenPom, and has very close losses at Florida State, and vs VaTech; Both Top 15 teams.

This is a good IU team. Good enough to win @ MD, PU or NW. But also a team quite capable of losing at NW, MD or Purdue. I mean yes, 5-3 is attainable. But to me 4-4 is more realistic. Hope I a m wrong. I just wanna get thru this stretch above .500 in the conference. Becasue after this stretch, it gets a tad "easier".
@MSU
VS Iowa
Vs OSU

@Minny
Vs Purdue
@ Iowa
Vs Wisconsin
Vs MSU

Then close with Rutgers at home, @ Illinois.

Games in bold= WIn

Minny is a toss up. So is @ Iowa. Don't think we win in East Lansing.

So get out of the front end of this schedule at 6-4, we could go 13-7 in the Big 10. Gives us 24 wins. I think that is where we will end up.

24-9, 13-7.....4/5 seed. Maybe...maybe a 3-seed; good BTT run could get us on that 3 line.

So you admit you have no idea if it will be less than 6 million or not? Would you be okay if it was 6 million?

Of course I have no idea. Aside from Brohm, his family, his agent, and Purdue’s BOT, who would actually know?

As far as your second question?

Just took a look at some highlights from Rocket Watts from his most recent game.

The step back, passing, shooting form.....I saw a bit of second half senior year Derrick Walton with an extra inch of height.

He will be good next year and a star two years from now.

Only? I guess 3 top 25 wins this year and a top 25 recruiting class don’t factor into the equation. If in 3 or 4 years we haven’t eclipsed the 6-6 mark, then yeah it will have been a mistake. But they’re paying him on his future potential and I think it’s obvious he has quite a bit of potential. I do find it funny that IU fans are trying to rationalize it because of how much he might be paid relative to his results so far. It’s essentially your only argument. Let’s revisit this in a few years deal?
I know I'm late to the argument, but I don't blame you one bit for paying to keep him there. If it was IU I would be beyond pissed if I found out they lost him for a couple of million extra a year. I'd much rather say it was a mistake 3 years down the road then to see him with a top 5 team somewhere else in 3 years.

@IUfanBorden - I see you’re fighting a battle that’s not winnable. There’s no reasoning with stupid. MJ18, proudopete and Arcb aren’t capable of understanding college basketball. Which is weird considering they claim to be a group who knows so much. Lol.

Though it did make for a good read while I had my coffee this morning!

They are just trolling IU. IU could beat the Pacers by 15 points with Romeo dropping 40 and they would make up some excuse to why it happened. With all the dumb stuff Mkgcbb and proudopete have said, there is zero reason to take either one of them seriously.

I don't think they are trolling....Maybe Mkgcbb...He's cool. I like debating with him. He does have some good insight. But the other two are pure ass clown, comedy. ProudPete might be the worst poster of all time.

I've seen Mkgcbb on other boards when IU gets brought up and he even trolls IU on other sites. The Kentucky board Iowa board ect... he's the definition of a troll. Anytime your hatred for a few teams clouds your objectivity to the point where it ignores reality, your opinion becomes utterly meaningless. That's the case with Mkgcbb and proudopete.

A few gems; leaving Romeo off the preseason all freshman team, that one pretty much speaks for itself considering he might win FOY and he's already a 2 time FOTW. Having Illinois above MSU preseason, wow just wow. A new classic from proudopete, "IU hasn't beaten anyone." Nevermind the 5 top 50 wins they have on Kenpom (tops in the Big10) and the 4 quadrant 1 wins. (Tied for tops in the Big 10) Even if THEY aren't impressed with those wins, the committee WILL BE during tournament seeding which is all that matters.

Their opinions are absolutely worthless and they are not to be taken seriously. Just good for a laugh every now and then, at just how outlandish and stupid they are.

I cannot disagree. Though I'm not sure its trolling, when you believe it.

I refuse to believe they actually believe it, because their opinions are simply too stupid to actually believe. They just hate IU and MSU so much that there's no reason for either fanbase to take them seriously. They are both worthless posters that bring 0 objectivity to any forum and are meant to be either ignored or laughed at. He calls Romeo "a chucker" nevermind the fact he's shooting 50% as a true freshman with the other team's best defender guarding him. Not to mention he's one of the most unselfish players I've seen in an IU uniform.

Comments like, "I would take Nojel Eastern over Romeo Langford." Nevermind that Eastern is simply a bad basketball player no matter what metric you look at. Can't shoot, can't create his own shot, low bb IQ, bad assist to turnover ratio especially for a point guard. Hell, he's shooting 40% from the foul line, that's embarrassing for a D1 basketball player, let alone in the Big10. Yet Mkgcbb insists he's better than Romeo Langford.o_O

Just last week after Trevion Williams got an assist in a game against a MAC team, he made a comment that, "nobody in the BIG10 is as close to Ethan Happ as Trevion." RollLaugh

I mean come on, absolutely worthless. Not meant to be argued with because you simply aren't going to convince them otherwise. Like I said, IU could beat the Pacers by 15 with Romeo dropping 40 and they would still make these same dumbass comments. The worst poster I've seen on any forum.

I can't disagree. Personally, I just thibk they're a combination of stupid and Purdue. Not a good combination.

Michigan was suppose to have an easy Big Ten schedule. 14 of their 18 remaining games are against kenpom top 50 teams. That’s crazy.
The schedule is still pretty favorable. We avoid roadies to Purdue, Nebraska and Ohio St (I think). I suppose 16-4 is possible but the way the league looks right now, that might win by 2 games. I think 10-0 at home and 5-5 on the road would get a tie for sure and be darn good. Any road win in the B10 is precious, esp this year. It will be nuts.
