*Official* B1G In-Season Thread

Haha. Silly little man.
I've seen it first hand. You have an amazing coach who leaves. Next coach is decent, but not near the level of the first coach. He rides the coattails of his predecessor for a bit. The fans are happy, and they expect the same results as the previous guy was giving them. Miss a couple tourneys, and you get the next guy. Problem is Gard is signing a bunch of system players that aren't really going to work for most people.

Gard just has decent coach written all over him.

But they’ll work for our system. Might be awhile before we miss another tourney.

I don't mind a tightly called game or a tough game, but they let Holtmann dictate how the game was called. Completely changed the way they were calling the game after halftime. Have made two calls where no one even touched the player.
when i've watched Illinois, it seems like their defensively philosophy is to force the refs to call as many fouls as possible -- just play very handsy defense.

You really think so? Your team next season will be one of the last athletic teams in the big ten. Who is going to score the ball aside from trice.

We are usually one of the least athletic teams in the conference. What is your point?

Not worried about scoring next year.

That's the youth and inexperience. If you go back and watch the way his SFA teams played, it was just as up in your face, but didn't commit the stupid fouls. Still fouled, but they were smarter. I'm not convinced he won't have to adjust some in the future, but the team now is still incomplete as constructed.

Didn’t they extend lovie when they should have fired him? I’m guessing underwood. Couple more losing seasons and he’ll get groced.

Yep. Extending Lovie was laughable. Crappy results and subpar recruiting equals extension apparently.

That, plus all the losing. Tough equation.
You're acting like this is new for me. I've been rooting for Illinois basketball and football my entire life. The basketball team has been bad for awhile. We're playing 27 power 5 teams this season with a very young and incomplete roster. I knew it was going to be bad.

I'll say this, you guys are going to rue the day Illinois is good again, if you're still alive. I'm going to shit all over this board.

Yes. If Iowa ever gets good again, I will clear this thread out.

The athletic had a good article on the reasoning. Not extending him only further handicaps the program. As bad as the season was, there was progress and he still was playing the youngest team in P5.

If John Fvcking Groce and Fran McCaffery can win ten games in the big ten and make the tournament, I don't see any reason why Underwood can't. There's a reason all his contemporaries praise his coaching acumen. That sure as shit never happened with Groce.

I thought he nailed down a bunch of talent?

I think they'll definitely need to adjust, or life on the road in the B1G is going to be VERY difficult for them. Fouling on over 30% of defensive possessions and giving up nearly 27 FTA/game...is bad. I know some of that is fouling at the end of a couple games, but it's a lot of the style of play as well.

Also agree that youth is a big part of the equation. It can be a tough adjustment on that side of the ball.

Low expectations when comparing to frantrum. I think Gil has rubbed off on you.

Didn’t Illinois have their worst football attendance in like 50 years this year?

Are the fighting @Deathclutch ’s going to hang on?

You two teach Turge how to schedule?
I hate when iu schedule's a team 250+. The OOC schedule should consist of

2 or 3 top 20 teams

2 or 3 teams around

150 to 200,

1 team 200 to 250

and then rest of ooc is teams between 20 to 150. I'd also like for at least 1 of these games be a true road game. I'd rather see them have 3 losses because it's a tough schedule then to be undefeated ,or 1 loss because the schedule was filled with nothing but 200+ teams.

As a IU fan, I don't think that you're right.....that would never happen.

In all honesty, your sounding like I did during Creans first couple of years. If you'd like to hear how the story you're in right now ends up...let me know.

Yup losing a 25% ft shooter will make us less skilled. Still won’t be tough beating the Illini.
That's the dumbest ****ing take you've ever said. Happ is the most technically skilled big you've ever had.
