MSU set up pretty nicely. OSU Purdue Iowa and Indiana once.

UM twice obviously and Maryland twice.

If you don't repeat...you suck.

Why? MSU doesn’t have a tough or easy schedule. Playing both Indiana schools only on road sucks but not going to OSU or Iowa is good.

Washes it out.

On paper there is no second elite team outside MSU unless guys come back to UM that declared. Maryland could be maybe

MSU should be the easy favorite.

lol, This is silly arguing and a waste of time. I think you answered the question in your first sentence. I’m on campus almost daily and have talked directly to coaches. However, even if you don’t buy that, here’s a direct quote from the most recent article by Kevin from OSU’s Insider Horseshoe Lounge:
“Ohio State is still looking at a potential graduate transfer and former Buckeye Daniel Giddens has been mentioned as a candidate for that spot as a player who would have one year to play one.”
As I said before, NO guarantee which way he will go. If he can’t get the transfer he wants, then YES, he does not have to have 13. But don’t be surprised if we get Giddens back or another transfer. That’s all I’m saying.

I listened to the Holtmann press conference last week and that’s what I was going on. If Osu signs a grad transfer It would almost assuredly mean that someone else is leaving the program or Wesson is staying in the draft.

This is from Adam Jardy who covers Osu hoops for the dispatch and I would argue is by far the best source for Osu hoops.

Ohio State had been in the market for a freshman or graduate transfer to serve as Wesson's backup. Daniel Giddens, a former Buckeye who transferred to Alabama after his freshman season, visited this month, but the situation did not work out. The Buckeyes were also linked to Butler graduate transfer Joey Brunk, a player whom Holtmann had signed at Butler but decided against it.

Holtmann said that the Buckeyes will not carry 13 available scholarship players in any season because the structure of college basketball makes it difficult to do so.

"When you get into the guts of the Big Ten season, you're talking about usually an 8-to-9-man rotation in a lot of cases," Holtmann said. "Why would you have 13 guys on your roster who all expect to play? It's foolish. It creates a team dynamic that's not always healthy."

Damn, I was concerned that Fran might have heard Iowa fans' plea to hire a defense specialist. Is this a move to create an opening?
to answer your question, Francis left to take another job elsewhere. he was a assistant to Fran for 12 years going back to Seina. assistant coach that want to move up they need experience under other coaches.

OSU roster for next year. 1 open space and Holtmann will be adding another big man (C) through transfer. They are looking at several right now.

1. Muhammad, soph, G
2. Jallow, Jr, G
3. Washington, soph, G
4. Ahrens, soph, G
5. CJ Walker, Jr. transfer, PG
6. A Wesson, Sr, F
7. Young, Jr., PF
8. K. Wesson, Jr. PF/C
9. Carton, freshman, PG
10. Liddell, freshman, PF
11. Gaffney, freshman, SF
12. Diallo, freshman, C
13. ? transfer
That isnt a roster that will scare anyone. Holtman is solid tho. Carton has an awful lot of pressure on him. If he isnt totally ready from day one, osu will be an NCAA team but nothing more.

Michigan shouldn’t even be ranked losing all those guys
Bottom of Top 25 or just outside of it. seniors Teske, Simpson and an explosive junior Livers is a good start. Lots of questions behind those 3 but plenty of talented, if unproven, options. Oh and John Beilein is still coaching. They could be a Top 20 team by Feb/March. And better chemistry hopefully. There were issues late in the season that had an impact.

Not with Turg. He has proven beyond a doubt he has a ceiling and it isnt elite. Doesnt matter how much talent he has

I fully expect UM to be a top 15 team by March. With Beilein and Simpson, Teske, and Livers you guys will be be solid.

Wing group is a bit more of a concern, though. Wilson is going to be a solid player, but he’s not a 5 star. Nunez May develop. Possibly that grad transfer? I have my doubts about Pierce.

Beilein is flying out to Berlin to meet with Franz Wagner next week. He’s supposedly a 5 star level talent that is deciding between um and going pro in Europe.

We've heard it for 20 years.

Yup.

Two years ago we lost Derrick Walton, Zak Irvin, and DJ Wilson. Turned out fine.

Last year we lost Moe Wagner, Duncan Robinson, and Abdul-Rahkman. Turned out fine.

Michigan’s ceiling won’t be as high without everyone coming back but you’d think people would pump the brakes on throwing them out with the trash.

Yup, we only throw Iowa out with the trash. They can bring everyone back and drop.

It will be a huge upgrade over this past seasons roster who won a tournament game. And better than the one that went 15-3 in the B10 his first year. Will be interesting to see what that translates to.

lets see about this drop over the last 4 seasons
12-6 lose 4 SR starters
10-8 was led by SR Jok
4-14 no SR's
10-10 led by RSSR Baer.

I see a pattern. a team that has 4 year players that get better as they get more experience.
this season they will have 3 SR leaders the most important one will be PG Jordan who is still the leader of the team,
SG Moss is a RSSR and SR Kriener will be coming of the bench.

Cook is gone and would have been the 4th SR with Dailey who is gone was the 5th SR,

the positive is that Fran has to run a short rotation of 10 players with #11 coming of the bench in case of injuries or fouls trouble

10 is maximum number of rotational players you want. That's a lot.

not when it is 2 at each position like here
PG SR 6'1 Jordan backup RSSO 6'5 Connor
SR RSSR 6'5 Moss backup RSFR 6'4 Fredrick
SF SO 6'6 Wieskamp backup FR 6'8 Patrick
PF JR 6'11 Garza backup RSJR 6'8 Pemsl [has not shown that he can stay healthy for a full season]
C RSSO 7'0 Nunge backup SR 6'9 Kriener
off the bench in garbage minutes PG FR 5'11 Truissaint.

that looks like a solid rotation. in both height at each of the 5 positions. nice distribution of year class,

this is also why I am not concerned if Fran finds 2 more players. as for the PG position it never hurts to have 3 PG's as Jordan and Connor can both play the 2,

I’d put the odds of Nunez contributing this year at about 5%. He is way behind. Brooks has his moments and could still develop into a solid rotation piece. Wilson is good but I think Bajema is the prize of this recruiting class. He’s skinny and played weak competition in HS but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he made a nice impact next year. And still a good chance we add two of Wagner/Pierce/Hyland/Quinones.

Lol ok. Only so many minutes for your team to play. 10 guys is too much.

Lol ok. Only so many minutes for your team to play. 10 guys is too much.
last season the minute break down looked like this.
mpg opening up
Cook 31 mpg
Baer 19.1 mpg as the 6th man
Dailey 12.4 mpg
total 62.5 mpg up for grab.

the starters
Jordan 31.1 mpg
Moss 24.1 mpg
Garza 23.6 mpg
Wieskamp 27.7 mpg

off the bench
Kriener 13.8 mpg
Connor 18.6 mpg
walk on
Till 16 games 4.7 mpg
Ash 9 games 4.1 mpg
Baer [younger brother] 9 games 2.2 mpg
Hobbs 6 games 2.2 mpg

none of the starters are going to play 35 + mpg
also don't see the 2nd string getting over 20 mpg and will more that likely get 10-16 mpg.

but thanks for your input on how the mpg will be handled.
