Missing Eastern. Last year Purdue got beat by double digits to a bad West Virginia team and then won the league and made the Elite 8. These games don't really mean much

Wait you are saying a scrimmage where coaches stop plays in the middle of them and create situations doesn’t mean anything? Surely you jest!

An IU player had 7 fouls in their scrimmage and didn’t have their starting backcourt. Not everything is an attack.

Yeah, I pay zero attention to scrimmages. For the most part, they are controlled. I know most of the college scrimmages I have officiated, this is the norm. Coaches will ask coaches to run stuff to help their team. You'll have periods of only zone....only man to man. No pressing, etc, etc...

As a coach, you learn about your kids, more than you do your team.

Providence/Purdue scrimmage. Alpha Diallo is the alpha dog.

I think individual performance is worth looking at more than how the team does overall. Coaches tinker with rotations, offenses, defenses, like you said. But seeing a player show out is never a bad sign.

Agree, 100%. Thats why I said coaches learn more about their kids, than they do their team.

Those scrimmages literally mean nothing either way honestly
Meh---I guess. But you as a coach do get to see how your kids react---Especially your frosh. Gives you a chance to see how kids do in a live ball scenario. I don't think you learn much, if anything about your team---But I do feel it gives you some answers about your kids.

Are you expecting more from Franklin after the scrimmage? He had some solid numbers and was good defensively on Howard but I am not sure I expect more because of the scrimmage

I’d much rather see the team play against a Power 5 than against say Marian University but I honestly do not take anything away from it

I wasn't there. I didn't get to see him. Miller did. I'd say it gave/gives Miller some reason to feel the kid may contribute more than thought. WHo knows. I do know if the scrimmages were that meaningless, then the coaches simply wouldn't play(them). It gives them an opportunity to see how guys react. Just like an exhibition. Scrimmages are just more structured...planned, etc, etc...

Not me. Games vs Marian, etc, etc..are good for the freshman. Last thing you want is your youngsters getting eaten alive, and shelling up. PLus, vs NAIA, D2 schools, you can work on some things that you probably couldn't do, vs a P5 opponent.

Correct. This was from the perspective of a fan. Nothing from a box score in a scrimmage is going to adjust my thoughts on a season

You can do the same thing against power 5 teams in a scrimmage. I wish they would get rid of the exhibition and allow two scrimmages vs quality teams

Oh, I agree with that. My point was, these(scrimmages) help coaches. Not fans. Winking[/QUOTE]

Meh---I guess. There's some advantages in playing these exhibitions. Scrimmages are controlled. You rarely get much out of them(team wise). Where as exhibitions are live games. To me they(exh) are more of pep-rally type of settings. Gets you ready...gives the fans a chance to see you play. Scrimmages wouldn't allow that.

Have seen some Michigan crystal ball picks lately. Wonder what those are about.
Something like UM was his dream school or favorite as a kid. Something like that. They’re gonna be a player in this, IIRC, as with other big name schools. Gonna be a heavyweight fight to the end for the top one/two PG in the class.

His pops is a lifelong Michigan fan. As I stated above, Michigan will play a huge role.

One Crystal ball pick recently from a random.

IU and Louisville in best position currently. Michigan will be a factor and I expect UNC to get involved plus others

Also if he switches to 2020 that would change things

I like where IU stands....He's just a junior. Long ways to go on this one.

How soon do you think you’d hear if he switched to 2020?

Change my mind? No of course not. Not even a single regular season game would change my mind on someone. One game is a really small sample size.

the secret scrimmage for Iowa is so secret that a poster posted this that Evelyn had 12 points and 8 assists in the scrimmage that Iowa dominated,

Kakert deleted right after it was posted, gee Kakert takes these secret scrimmages to seriously.

its almost like it is supposed to be super top secret like the invasion of Normandy type secrecy.

I tend to agree on taking the results too seriously, however I do I think it was good for Purdue's young guys to see what a good, physical defense looks like. Those guys have obviously played in some huge games, but not in these roles. I think offense will be a work in progress and Providence provided a good example of how hard points will be to come by against the 13 B1G teams not located in Iowa.

Overall I suspect that we'll see stat lines like this during the season, and we'll see some where Purdue makes 15-25 from 3 as well. Just the nature of the beast of playing a bunch of younger guys and relying on them to make shots.

found this on the ISU Redbird site, was not much. just they played 4 10 minute quarters
Iowa tied the 1st then won the next 3 by 5 points each. that was all they said. no stats, nothing.

would like to see who played and how many minutes. something anything to get the season going.

Green and Phinisee still out for tomorrow’s exhibition ...Phinisee hasn’t practiced all October. Solid start to the year

Archie Miller says Rob Phinisee has been dealing with a lower abdominal injury.

Says it's not a very common injury and something he'll deal with for some time managing it.

"We want him to best in the best position he can when he does come back."

Dopirak was tweeting some of this, not ideal. also sounds like Durham is the primary pg and that Franklin is playing very well early.
