This.

Personally I prefer a big man more like Kalkbrenner than one like Dickinson from a style-of-play perspective. But I'm not going to turn up my nose at a consensus top-40 guy.

Would be disappointing to walk away from the 2020 class without one of these bigs; but 2021 could be a special class if Painter is able to reel in a couple of his high-level targets.

agree with this

looks like the small catholic school thing sealed the deal for him, he had some great offers

Most realistic:
Trey Kaufman
Caleb Furst

Somewhat realistic:

Harrison Ingram

Much less realistic:

Max Christie (longshot as he's likely Duke-bound)
Chet Holmgren (another longshot as he's going to have offers from everyone when it's all said and done).

Christie visited UW Saturday.

Must be nice having commits for the 2020 class.....

In all seriousness, we should be getting our first commit in the next couple of weeks.

I'm hoping IU can get one of Furst or Kaufman. I'd probably take Kaufman first, but would be happy with either.

Maybe I’m misremembering the player but I thought I read that IU isn’t pursuing Furst too seriously? Spending more time on other guys?

Is Lander an IU lean?

Illinois has a good shot at bringing home Curbelo and Adam Miller. Would be solid replacements for Feliz and Ayo.

Nice try, Wisconsin. They're not falling for that again.

I'm thinking we'll skip Minnesota for 2021. Give it a rest for a year. 2022 seems like a good year to jump back in.

We've got one 2021 commit on board already. 2nd could happen soon enough. Hard to believe how different things look from only May 2019.

IU is recruiting Furst the same as Kaufman and is planned to be on campus this fall.

IU is in a great spot for Lander, but it is early. Lots of folks will continue to reach out to him.

Yeah interesting list for him. IU started recruiting him late, so its nice to be in the Top 5. Been told Antigua is the major connection and has Illinois in deep.

Gotcha. Didn’t realize they were recruiting Furst that hard.

I think there has been a bit more emphasis with Kaufman recently, but Furst has been on campus a few times and scheduled to come back at some point this fall.

I think we're spending a good amount of time with Kaufman, too. I'm just not sure if we're spending much time or a lot of time on Furst.

Wouldn't say Lander is an IU lean, but more IU is in as good of a position as it can be or as anyone else. Lander is going to take his time and there are some big names involved. So this one is likely to be a battle. Hoping IU can pull it out.

Yeah, Miami is the other team right now. Don't think he's a fall guy though, so plenty of time to catch up.

He reminds me of a better Aaron Craft.

RollLaugh never saw that coming.

Purdue guys, are you feeling better with your other prospects? This doesn't add up.
Things have changed in the last week seemingly. Things have been very pro-Purdue in regards to Hunter Dickinson but if they don’t land him I’ll be extremely disappointed in not getting him or Kalkbrenner.

Dickinson’s visit to Michigan went good. Hoping we can steal him.

Get ahold of me when a visit goes poorly. But nah in all seriousness are they a contender in this? I had forgotten he even visited UM.

Yeah they are a serious contender but it’s another recruitment where I think Howard got in too late and will finish 2nd or 3rd in. Sucks.

What sucks about this class is no recruits know how Howard’s offense will look or what his coaching style will be. They either have to wait like Burnett is doing or choose Michigan based on what Howard says Michigan will do. It’s hard to close a recruiting gap on a school someone like Dickinson loves without anything to illustrate usage.

As of 2 weeks ago I was convinced Purdue was going to get Kalkbrenner and Dickinson wasn’t going to happen and then it was the opposite. So who really knows when it comes to recruiting.

Michigan was playing second fiddle to duke on Walker Kessler and then he committed to North Carolina out of nowhere.

I love both styles honestly. To me the best offense Purdue has ever had is when they surrounded Haas with shooters everywhere. Dickinson seems to be an even better version of Haas in that regard. It just leaves the defense in a bind in a “pick your poison” type of offense.

I also feel like having both aspects of dominant perimeter play and post offense leads to more consistency. Obviously the Haarms style of big man in the pick and roll game got Purdue within seconds of a final 4 last season so no complaints there. I do think Trevion will give them that post presence in the future, regardless of if Dickinson comes to Purdue or not though.

& just to let you guys know I’m way over the top hyped for this upcoming season’s Purdue team as the season gets closer & the more I think about Purdue’s roster. I’ll need you guys to bring me back a notch and I know I can count on all you for that.

In all seriousness, I’m optimistic for the upcoming season.

But nah I’m not expecting that. I do think the year after with a Senior Haarms/Eastern and the younger guys with a year of experience under their belts, a year without a deep tournament run would be disappointing.

This year I’m thinking more of a 4-5 seed type of team that is ultra competitive in every game though. Then just let the chips fall where they may in the tournament.

Surround a big with shooters. That seems familiar. I think we tried that once. Was ok.

You talking about with Happ? Wisky was 210th and 265th in three pointers made the last 2 seasons with Happ & 254th in 3 pt% last season at a 33% clip. That’s surrounding a big with bad shooters lol

Purdue with Haas was 16th most made threes in nation and 2nd best 3Pt % at 42% for example.

Oh. Well the last big I can even think that Wiscy had that played similarly to Haas/Dickinson is Brian Butch. Unless you’re talking about Kaminsky but that’s a totally different skill set.

Dickinson is an interesting prospect to me, I think he’ll be good but he’s going be unplayable against a lot of teams in modern college basketball. Definitely think he’s best off going to Purdue based on their success with haas.

Unplayable? Think that’s a bit of hyperbole? Very few teams have perimeter oriented 5’s that can also hang defensively with an opposing 7 footer in the post.
