Yup. Lose one of the top 3 players in the MVP race and one of the best rookie hitters in baseball and still pull out a run like this?? Pretty fun.

I found this game to be boring as sht. At least Delanie is getting some garbage time points for my FF team. It’s pretty much the only reason why I am watching right now.

I would think a wisco fan would especially get it if they were a fan before Bo’s final 2 seasons

Brewers schedule down the stretch is a joke. I’ll be happy if Cards can split in Chicago.

I understand why Purdue fans try to get respect for Painter and Painter obviously has it from the media.

It isn't going to happen from fans especially fans of the same conference until the guy gets to a final four or pulls off a crazy run of B1G titles or something. He is in the middle of a great run, but more needs to be seen.

If by "fans" you mean the trolls that regularly comment here such as yourself and the wisco guy who brought up keady for no reason then yes, he absolutely isn't going to get respect as a coach. Otherwise, the large majority of knowledgeable basketball fans absolutely respect him as a coach.

It isn’t going to happen from other teams fans on this board in general but obviously some posters understand how good Painter is and have voiced it. Good thing my opinion of most of the more vocal posters regarding basketball understanding is low to zero.

Painter has a high level of respect from a lot of Purdue fans, and some media but you left off other groups who may have keen insight on the subject - his fellow coaches and a good number of players I suspect.

A bit of a tangent - for those who actually read the article it seems that the often ridiculed notion (once again by the usual suspects) that Purdue is Big Man U was thoroughly supported by the post usage statistics...you know:actual data.

For my part I am thrilled to have a still young coach operating at this level of performance. IMO he is hitting a long term sweet spot.

    Straw man building in 3, 2, 1...

Disagree. If the guy continues to win at a high level he will get plenty praise. His teams have choked in March. The Virginia game this year was just brutal, but he got the Sweet 16 monkey off his back. Purdue's program is currently in a great spot, lets see where it goes from here.

The Virginia game going into OT is Painter’s fault? What? I didn’t know he morphed into Ryan Cline at the free throw line or was one of the guys boxing out on the Virginia free throw. I don’t see how you can say that Virginia game was brutal at the hands of Painter.

He will get it from a few more here but the hardcore and high post count posters are too interested in being trolls to change. You bring up a game that Purdue freakishly lost to prevent the FF appearance. The idea that Painters talent as a coach went up or down based on the outcome of that game is not logical. I’ve said the same for Beilien - he didn’t become a damn good coach the day he went to his first FF. He was a damn good coach before that. In the casual fan I get that the perception is driven by FFs and Nattys. For fans that take the time to post on a forum specifically to discuss B1G basketball I’d initially expect more. After you’ve been around a while it becomes clear the main purpose is to earn cuteness points for ignorant troll posts from fellow trolls.

Painter has certainly been hitting his stride the past few years. I dont think many here are slighting him, non Purdue fans just aren’t as ready to put him in that next level just yet. It’s understandable for Purdue fans to be happy about their coach and direction of the program. Purdue hasn’t seen this amount of consistent success in some time. I thought he had a chance after the baby boilers but bringing in a few wrong guys set the program back and I think that’s still in the back of some of our minds.

No, where did I blame Painter for that loss. All I said was that it was brutal. That was to mean it was a brutal loss.

Plenty of other choke jobs or terrible losses can be listed if needed.

Oh I thought you were talking about Painter choking at the Virginia game. Really the only 2 games I would consider choke jobs would be Arkansas-Little Rock and the Cincinnati game. Yeah, Purdue blew a huge lead against Kansas but Kansas was by far the more talented team.

I would say that’s fair. I would also say Painter’s recruiting classes have been much better since 2012 and he’s been able to stack them back to back. The 2008-2011 classes were brutal. I think that in large part is also Purdue getting out of the Stone Age it was stuck in back then when it came to facilities, etc.

Losing every Sweet 16 game by double digits until last year isn't great on the resume. Including a 32 point rout that would make some serial killers wince.

The biggest thing is that the program is consistent and Painter has put Purdue in a position to make deep runs.

100% he quit reaching and is going for system guys. Get old, Stay Old. Its exactly what I would like to see Indiana do. Get the occasional 5 star to mix with 3 or 4 year system players is the way I want to see IU.

and as much as i hate wisconsin, i thought bo was an outstanding coach, and was actually glad he broke through at the end.

solid post. definitely agree that if he wants to be in that next level (with recent b10 coaches like izzo, beilein and ryan), gotta get to at least the FF

He will lock up every B1G coaching record before its all said and done if I had to guess. The question is will he be the B1G's Dan Marino or be able to get over the hump.

I agree, and hope we aren't sitting here in a decade debating if he'll ever make the FF, haha.

just in the last few years, some of the biggest NCAAT choke artists have broken through, some in a major way: ryan, bennett, few, jay wright (although he did have a previous FF, so maybe not fair to include him) off the top of my head

All teams choke in the tournament. It's not some purdue specific thing all you make it out to be. Well except iu, they'd actually have to make it for that to happen.

22 Y/O Pemsl gets busted for OWI. the reason for him getting stopped, failure to operate traffic control device, improper turn and a cracked tail light showing a white light.

this happened at 2:45 AM on Friday night. tested .122, the University has suspended him from all BB activity indefinitely. Pemsl will be punished by the University Students code of conduct.

this is one of the changes that went into effect a few years ago, after these are implemented then the HC's of all the sports can add to or leave it at that.

Absolutely huge to pull out the first 2 games, especially considering how dominant the Cubs have been at home. Now we just need the Brewers to actually lose for once.
