If they are relying on that bench next year

giphy.gif
Don’t think the bench was near the problem tonight, in fact the only reason they got up 8 was because of one those players on that bench. I’m gonna go with the 4 slumping seniors underperforming right now as the reason. Confident they’ll get it straightened out before it’s too late though.

I’m worried about all the games they played last summer. Have been going at it since June.
Overrated reason IMO. These players are used to playing year round with AAU/high school and offseason workouts. It may not be at the same level but I don’t think the WUG has anything to do with this at all. Basketball is a game of momentum and Purdue currently doesn’t have any.

AAU is defense optional. Poor comparison.

Definitely don’t have momentum tho

In all honesty Purdue has been playing like this for a month and have finally started to get snake bitten. I still think they are a good team but Painter needs to adjust to the adjustments coaches have made to them.

The seniors absolutely need to show up. PJ Thompson is no where to be found Dakota nowhere to be found and that bench is atrocious

This is incorrect. Purdue was coming off one of its best 3-5 performances all season in their loss at Michigan State. Purdue played about as good as they have played all season in that loss. They were up 2 on the road at a top 5 KenPom team with under a minute to play before a walk on scrub hit a jump shot to tie it followed by a Bridges NBA range contested 3 that won it in the last seconds. Purdue had 3 turnovers the entire game and generated great look after great look for the most part on the offensive end that game while baiting Bridges into those long 2 point jumpers he happened to hit.

Tonight, Purdue probably played its worst game of the season. Turnover city. Mathias took a number of inefficient 2 point jumpers with Cline throwing in one or two as well.

Purdue has not played anywhere near as poorly as they played tonight.

A couple of interesting facts showing just how top heavy the Big Ten is.

The top 5 of the Big Ten has 14 conference losses combined:
  • Only 2 of the 14 are to teams outside of the top 5 (OSU vs PSU and Michigan vs Northwestern)
  • None of the bottom 6 teams (Maryland, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Rutgers, Illinois) has a win against the top 5
Damnit, I should’ve known better than to post this on game day.

I played AAU, the defense is optional narrative can be such a fallacy. Sure not in 100% of cases but on most teams if you don’t play D, you don’t play.

I don’t know what’s more embarrassing, losing to Wisconsin or only scoring 53.

That’s a relative term. It’s nowhere near the level they are currently at and especially if you are among the team’s best players.

Yes one bench a player had a good few minutes. 0 from Cline 0 from Haarms is a problem.

The seniors are absolutely a problem as well but they need support

My main point is I don’t think what they did in June/July or whenever it was is harming them in February. People brought that up when Purdue lost 2 games in the Bahamas. So did they get tired, then rested up and won 19 in a row, and then got tired again?

Agree with Cline but Haarms isn’t out there to score this season. Play D, set screens, keep the ball moving. Cline does need to step up though, agreed. This is the reason I was against redshirting Wheeler and Sasha. These are the kind of games you could use 2 extra players just to see if they can give you another spark.

If they brought it up in the Bahamas, they were dumb. That makes no sense.

As an MSU fan, I’m having a pretty good day. Assuming PSU wins (up 27) we have a chance to win it outright if OSU loses to Michigan or Indiana. Go Badgers and Nittany Lions.

Next to osu this season...amirite?

Lol. You seem to be upset at their unexpected success. But to answer your question, they seem like well coached team. Nothing more really. Not as talented as someone like UM but having a better season. I’ll take it...

It's different when basically everyone except Bohannon, Cook and Garza has a bad year
Moss has gone from these stats as a FR
6.5 ppg to 10.8 ppg compared to Jok who avg'd 6 ppg as a SO
55 total rebounds in 34 games to 62 rebounds thru 28 games
29 assist to 56 assists
36 TO to 37 TO
19 steals to 21 steals good for 2nd on the team
13 blocks to 6 blocks maybe this is why you are calling this a bad year for Moss
41.2% from the field to 41% from the field
35.8% from 3 to 38.2% from 3
74.2% from the FTL to 88..5% from the FTL

OMFG Fran kick him off the team ASAP for not elevating his game to the of a SR Jok,
if that's a bad season then no matter what he does will ever satisfy you.

JFC that was the ugliest game I’ve seen Purdue play since the Johnsons were still around. Congrats Badgers. Just painful and terrible to watch as a Boiler fan.

Why would that not make sense then but it makes sense in February?
A typical season lasts 6 months. If you start practicing in June and lose games in November, that’s essentially a normal season.

You literally twist everyone's words to make your point every time. Where in the flying **** did I say he needs to be as good as Jok was last year? Nowhere is the answer. IT WOULD BE NICE if he was a 14-15 PPG or a lock down defender type of guy for this team but in no way do we NEED him to be
not surprised after throwing the bus, 2 out of the last 3 are at home.

but hey keep the trashing up. if it makes you feel better.
Which 2 are they gonna win? You probably think we are gonna win out, make the tournament and win a game or 2, don't you? Sorry I'm not optimistic towards the end of a season where we have a 3-12 record in BIG play. I didn't know being all sunshine and roses at all times was part of being a fan
